I got the subwoofers to pick up again but I still have intermittent drops. Anyone have any clues as to why it does this? I've read plenty of others with this problem but I can't seem to find the source.

I have random/intermittent drops...but it's not a HUGE thing - except when you pay good money for something...you should have a reasonable expecation that it will WORK...for more than 5 min.

Has anyone contacted Sony about it? I haven't...just haven't taken the time.

Do yourselves a favor and return the 1010 back to the store if you can....... I did and I couldn't be happier! From what I am reading here the bass issue is affecting a lot of people. I upgraded to the Pioneer Elite VSX-33 and never looked back. My SW rocks the house with the Pioneer. It's not your SW units, it's the Sony receiver.

I dunno...I got my bass working fairly well. My only complaint is the occasional audio drop. I'm debating - time is running out to get it back to amazon...I don't really want to spend BIG $$...and the experience I had with the Pioneer VSX-1020 was way worse than the one i'm having with this one.

Personally, I don't think anyone builds anything of quality anymore. The day this country started outsourcing was the day we said goodbye to reliability & quality.

All anyone cares about anymore is getting your $$.

For an almost $500 price difference between what I paid for this one & the VSX-33...I think I can handle an audio dropout...

I understand believe me.... Finances can make it difficult on some people. If your return your 1010 now, you could probably get a much better receiver in the same price range. Well...during my ordeal with the Pioneer VSX-1020 (and I REALLY liked that one)...I went through 3 of them from Amazon - could get *nothing* to process through it - video or audio. They had the STR DN1010 for $262 during that time frame, so I asked if they would drop it back down to that price since I had such a problem...and they did.

I got a great price, but if it isn't working 100% it's not such a great deal. I know I can't swing the price for the Elite series...lol... I have read many reviews on many different AVR's, and it doesn't seem like any of them are consistently dependable, etc...

$262 is an awesome price.... Providing you get a good working model. If you want strong thunderous bass, your not gonna get it with this model. Move on and get yourself a better receiver, or at least wait until you get your hands onto more cash.

When I connect cablebox HDMI to TV HDMI IN, no problem.

When I connect cablebox HDMI to Sony STR-DN1010 HDMI IN (1, 2, 3 or 4) and then Receiver HDMI OUT to TV HDMI IN...
when I change the channels, the TV screen flickers for about 10 seconds before the channel displays properly on the screen.

I have tried changing the HDMI cables and also tried HDMI IN 1,2,3 and 4.

Sony Support line was not much help.

Need help.

It depends...when testing with U-571 in the depth charge scenes...it is pretty decent. When testing with Pale Rider when all of the bad guys trash the camp on horseback...no thundering hooves....

I'm relatively sure that, for the price paid, it isn't gonna get a ton better...and right now, I have no spare $ lying around to upgrade. At least this one works - which is more than I can say for (3) Pioneer VSX-1020's...

Perhaps Pioneer switching to "Made in China" did affect some things. Either way I was really leaning towards this reciever until I read some user reviews and found it a little disappointing. But last week I got a VSX-1020 at a store going out of business for $450. Hooked it up to my dads fluance 5.1, waiting on polks TL3's to come out, and was very impressed. I like it much better than his Onkyo reciever, although it is only an RC260...

I have 3 hdmi cables. When I connect cablebox directly to the tv, all 3 hdmi cables have about 2-second delay tuning in channels, tv screen also does not flicker.

When I connect cablebox to receiver and then to tv, the tv screen flickers for about 10 seconds before it properly displays the channel.

I have switched between these 3 cables, the same result.

Is there something called fast hdmi cable and slow hdmi cable?

I've tested several blu-rays with both receivers........ Terminator Salvation was one of them, and I consistently got thunderous bass on the VSX33, whereas the bass on the DN1010 was mild to almost non-existent at times on the same movie. Keep in mind I am using the same SW and SW setting with both Amps. The same result happened on several other movies. I'm telling you your missing out on the thunderous bass by sticking with the Sony. If your satisfied with the sound now and money is an issue at this point, then stick with the Sony for a few years then upgrade.

The cheapest/quickest thing to test would be getting new HDMI cables. Get HDMI 1.4 - monoprice.com has good cables and they're not expensive.

'High Speed' HDMI will handle 1080P - Standard will only handle up to 1080i. HDMI 1.4 are the latest standard - will handle 1080P/3D.

Other than that, sounds like an HDMI issue with the receiver...or a handshake problem between components...

It may be stamped on them in ridiculously small typeface...but the easiest way, is just go to Monoprice.com (or vendor of your choice), and order 1.4. Don't be suckered in to buying $50 cables thinking they'll be better, because they won't be.

You should never pay more than about $10 for a cable...even CNET says so.

Thanks. I checked the cable, it's 1.3b.

I am connecting to KDF-60XS955 which I believe is 1080i.

Would the HDMI cable 1.4 make a difference?

Most likely not, but it couldn't hurt...especially if the cable you currently use has any flakiness to it. 1.3 will carry up to 1080i signals, from what i've read...

I have the SONY STR-1010 receiver, using bravia sync with my KDL55NX810 tv. When I use a universal remote to adjust the volume, it adjusts on the television and the receiver. I would like the tv to not adjust, is this possible? thanks.

FYI ... HDMI cables are either standard/lo speed (up to 1080i) or hi speed (1080p) and can no longer be labeled as HDMI 1.3 or HDMI 1.4 as the cable is just a cable. If the cables you're using now to pass 2D 1080p video, then they will also pass 3D 1080p video. It's the HDMI spec on the jack itself that determines whether 3D 1080p video can be passed.

The STRDN1010 is 7.1 receiver. I am using Bose 5.1 speakers. The only speakers that are operating are Front Left and Front Right. None of the other ones play even when I change the speaker setup on the receiver. What am I doing wrong? At one point the rear right and left were playing. So I must have messed up something. The sound in shows Analog.

I just hooked up all my speakers and they work fine.I'm having a problem with sat.receiver. I hooked it up to HDMI 3 as stated in the manual,but when i access it on the remote,i get no signal. I have my Bluray hooked up in HDMI 1. I have 3 HDMI ports on the back of my Samsung tv and none of them say ARC. Does it matter which port i use? I checked all connections, is there something in the settings i should adjust? Please help..Thanks

Hi seanskie, try connecting the sat. box to the other three HDMI ports on the receiver.

I plugged in the HDMI out from my receiver into HDMI 3 in on my tv and it works now. I assigned my sat.receiver button on the remote to HDMI 3 in GUI input settings but i'm only getting video and NO audio???

Have you gone through the manual speaker setup in the GUI Menu? See if you can send the test tone to any of the other speakers... Also, re-check all cables/phase, etc...

My only gripes about this AVR is the lack of Bass response on some BluRay/DVD played thru the PS3...and the random total loss of signal. I've not had any speaker issues, thus far.
