Well, I think even the standard cut of "Watchmen" is infinitely better'n "Kick Ass."
IMO, Kick Ass is one of those love it or hate it kinda movies. It seems to have a polarizing effect on most viewers.
On one hand, it's supposed to portray what it would be like for a typical teenager who decides to become a superhero - even though the kid has no super powers. For the most part in the first half, the movie goes to great lengths to make it all seem so... ordinary and at its best in those scenes, it works.
But once Hit Girl is introduced, there's all sorts gravity/physics defying wire-fu action sequences that throw any link to realism out the window. Plus, the overtly fetishistic aspect of a little girl dressed in leather "kicking ass" in slo-mo while Joan Jett tunes blast on the soundtrack borders perilously close to child exploitation at times.
There is a cynical, smug streak that runs through the movie but the fact that it *is* entertaining and even funny at times like prime Tarantino ultimately means that yes, it is worth a look even if you wind up hating it...... and yourself for being taken in.
