The studio only gets a part of the gross box office revenue.
Plus it would have cost at least 30 million to advertise it

I love how people are experts on P&A....

Factor in home video sales, VOD, TV rights, etc etc.

They did ok.
It did more than ok if they green lit a second

True. Generally, a film needs to make three times its budget to break even. KA did that.

Okay....where are the screen caps, peoples?!

Thanks for those, LilGator! Actually looks better than I expected, as it didn't look all that great in the theater to begin with.

Should be receiving this on Friday looking forward in watching this

Amen did you nail it...you & me both. One will find that list in just about every wanna-be-film student/writer/PA who want to pose as Mr Hollywood...give and take a few others thrown in like forrest gump, shawshank redemption, fight club, etc mostly more politically correct super over rated films.

Did you make those captures? They seem to not be full-range RGB but 16-235.

Can we just buy the blu ray and not this triple combo crap? I have no use for the other two disk.

It looks even more punchier than that. I know nothing about capturing equipment, but I agree with 42041... they do seem washed out.

Some scenes were a little inconsistent, but overall, it looks great. The colors pop off the screen and it really has a comic book feel to it. I'd give it a 4-4.5/5 for video.

Got the Blu-ray today. Very good looking, some of this stuff is boderline demo material.

Hidefidgest says it's region locked, and that UK steelbook looks pretty cool. Checking the amazon website it's region 2, same as the gladiator steelbook I have and played fine here. Any truth to it being region locked or no? Awesome movie by the way.

thanks, i appreciate that...even better! but i was mainly commenting on the grain structure and clarity rather than color depth. i thought the print in the theater seemed overly processed and more smeared looking than i am accustomed to...perhaps i have been spoiled by all the digital projection of late.

Anyone having problems getting Kick-Ass to play on their Oppo BDP-83?

It will play the LionsGate animation, the commentary disclaimer and then just sits in black. It never goes to the Main Menu. Tried to play 4 times with no success.

I e-mailed Oppo support but no reply yet.

Quickly reviewed the package and it looks like a great, packed disc.

Too bad Best Buy used crappy price stickers that don't come off easily. With the matte finish slipcover, getting all the sticker and glue off is going to take ages. -sigh-

I'll wait till it's a $14 blu-ray.

Only big budget specialFx movies or film classic masterpieces are worth $24 or up.

Get yourself a bottle of Goo Gone.

It's always good to have on hand in situations like this. It had the sticker off mine in under two minutes. The stuff never fails.

30 seconds with a hair dryer set to 'hot' hovering over any sticker will do the job...it simply re-heats the glue allowing them to peel right of as easy as they are to apply.

The aliasing visible in this transfer is really bad, especially in the opening 10 minutes or so. I'm about an hour in right now. Still seeing instances from time to time. The chroma noise in Kick Ass' bedroom walls is rough too.

Otherwise a decent look transfer, true to the source which was heavily saturated and blown out.

My NF copy arrived today.

Missed it at during its theatrical release.
This better be worth the wait (and not like that frickin' Watchmen).

Loved this movie but my Blu-ray won't play for longer then about 5 minutes without freezing up. I am using the Panasonic BP-50 with the latest firmware available. Anyone else having issues with the disc??

Indeed it will. But will it smell like oranges when you're done?

Yep does the same thing on mine, Kick-Ass does not work on the Oppo BDP-83.

Just watched it. Pretty entertaining.. and PQ was good _-- BUT could have been better ... There were several scenes where I could see blocking so I checked the bit-rates and they were below 10 at times... I'm surprised because the disc is completely filled... Funny thing is that only 23 GB of that is actual movie... Weird...

1st act meanders and lackluster. 2nd act shows its true colors, focus and truly "kicks ass". Somewhat uneven, hope the sequel will address those issues. Lastly, it should have been called Hit girl since she basically stole the whole damn thing. I can see why both guys from At the movies hated it. Also the F bombs from her could have been totally avoided all together.

Kick Ass played on my OPPO 83 today. Took slightly longer to load, but did without further hesitation
