I'm not saying it's not, but I can find nothing that says this is the new Blu-ray3D.

The cover art has been released for this and confirms it will be in the Blu-ray 3D format. I believe it's a 4-disc combo pack.

Yes, but so do anaglyph (red/blue) 3D movies. I found nothing that says Blu-ray3D
post #9 of 58
It's not anaglyph, but the new 3D blu-ray format. This has been mentioned in several sources. There is a large sticker on the art which indicates this. Don't panic about logos now, we have months before the product hits the shelf. They may change it.

if you look at the top of the page it says a christmas carol -3d (4-disc combo pack) [blu-ray]
The odd thing is, why are the 3D and 2D discs separate? The 3D disc should play in a 2D player (in 2D) just fine.
So they can charge more for a 4 disc set, I guess.

did you go to the sight the price that amazon is saleing it for plus free shipping you cant go wrong. iam shure the 2d version alone will be around $17.00.
The 3D disk will play in a 2D Blue ray player in 2D but not in a DVD player which is why they also give you the film on a standard 2D DVD disk.

The ad does not show any artwork. The ad does not show the Blu-ray3D logo. I am not prone to panic.

I am not saying it isn't Blu-ray3D. I am saying nothing in the ad proves that it is Blu-ray3D.

So does the Jonas Brothers (anaglyph) 3d Blu-ray. http://www.amazon.com/Jonas-Brothers.../dp/B001NPD9OK

Compare it to A Christmas Carol http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Caro.../dp/B003NFM3JU

Jonas Brothers

Format: AC-3, Color, Dolby, Dubbed, Live, Subtitled, 3D, Widescreen

A Christmas Carol
Quote:

Format: AC-3, Animated, Closed-captioned, Color, Dolby, DTS Surround Sound, Dubbed, Subtitled, 3D, Widescreen

Neither says Blu-ray3D. Although the Jonas Brothers ad contains a product alert, that alone does not prove that A Christmas Carol is not anaglyph.

Again, not saying it isn't the new 3D, just that it does not say that.

Compare to http://www.amazon.com/Cloudy-Chance-.../dp/B003M9ZA4W

The key here is Blu-ray3DTM, with the trademarked logo, vs -3d.....[Blu-ray]

I'm not quite sure why pre-ordering is an issue? All it does is ensure you the best price amazon offers between now and the product's release. It doesn't hurt any of us here by pre-ordering and having it turn out to be anaglyph like a week before release (not to mention I'm pretty sure there have been press releases about it being stereoscopic).

Thanks Steelers1, I found it and pre-ordered. Looking forward to being able to purchase more 3D movies. The train tour was excellent. They had to have spent a ton of money on that promotion. It got me super stoked about the movie in 3D.

There has been one press release by Disney. The release is part of "Disney Digital 3D Content for the Home on Blu-ray", except that bloggers who relayed that release interpret that as Blu-ray3D. Disney never stated it, in fact they have their own trademark name for it. (See in bold below)

Quote:

BURBANK, Calif., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing its leadership in the advancement of 3D entertainment, The Walt Disney Studios today announced plans to start releasing Disney Digital 3D content for the home on Blu-ray Disc beginning in 2010 with Disney's A Christmas Carol and a special 3D Showcase Disc. Disney's new Digital 3D content for the home on Blu-ray(TM) will be made available in coordination with hardware manufacturers' upcoming release of new 3D home entertainment systems so that consumers can experience the magic of Disney 3D in their home upon installation

According to the Blu-ray Disc Association, all Blu-ray3DTM discs must be backwards compatible, and play in 2D on a 2D player. Perhaps that explains the lack of the logo on the Disney disc, and the "extra" 2D disc?

Again, it may well be a Blu-ray3DTM disc, but nothing states that in the press release or on the packaging.

I still fail to see how people pre-ordering this now (when it may not be stereoscopic 3D) is an issue.

Not everyone checks their order everyday, to see if the box art changes. They would not be very happy if their order was not what they expected it to be.

On a similar note; there are many unhappy Amazon customers who looked at a picture and ordered without reading the description, only to find they bought an accessory for an item, not the item itself.

If it is not stereoscopic, there will be people who find this out when they receive it, not beforehand.
The new 3D Blu-Ray disks must be capable of beiing played in 2D on a 2D Blu-ray player.
They are not required to be played on a standard 2D DVD player which is why a 2D DVD disk is included in the conbo packs.

but you got to remember if it is not what it suppose to you can cancel out the order before they ship it no charge.

I never said anything about an SD DVD. I was referring to being able to play on a 2D Blu-ray player. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

The box art says Blu-rayTM 3D + 2D + DVD + Digital Copy (notice the trademark TM is after Blu-ray, not Bluray3D.)

http://www.thehdroom.com/news/First-Look-A-Christmas-Carol-Blu-ray-3D-Cover-and-Details/6736

Why would it be four discs if it was Blu-ray3DTM? The 3D disc would play in 2D on a 2D Blu-ray. The DVD would play in 2D on a regular SD DVD player.

Again, no claims here, other than nothing says it is a Blu-ray3DTM.

I know that. You know that. The point is, people will order, some based on your post, and never check back.

People are posting that it is a Blu-ray3DTM as fact, when it is really based on belief, conjecture, and hearsay.

This is a science forum, not a blog. Show me facts.

Are you casting doubt that ACC from Disney is NOT a 3D BD simply because it doesn't have the 3D BD logo on the box?

If you are - that is false. It IS a 3D BD along with a BD, a DVD and a DC - 4 discs in the package for $50 (MSRP).

No. I am saying that nowhere does it say it is a Blu-ray3DTM. One can only assume that it is.

Why? Pardon the expression but, "because Lee says so"? Where is it confirmed that it is a Blu-ray3DTM?
I think I have to agree with Augerhandle. Everyone's jumping on the bandwagon because stereoscopic BluRay3D is new and that means this movie HAS to be stereoscopic. Until I see it explicitly stated or shown, I can't believe it.

Then again, not being the bandwagon kind of guy, I'm still waiting for HDDVD3D.

hmmmm......has a nice ring to it.
