MotorStorm: Apocalypse - Page 3

From what I've seen so far, yes King. As long as the vehicles don't have that floaty feeling handling like MS:PR. Hopefully we will get an early demo to find out.

Be sure to give us a review after you play it. Hopefully we will get a demo also.

I was hoping to find a copy before I leave the EU, I'd love to have a copy a month early. I think I'm leaving days to soon.

Well, this is certainly disappointing.

I received an e-mail from GameStop yesterday with a code for a 1 week exclusive demo for this game. I put the code in today after the PSN updated and for some reason it's telling me that either the code was already used or it's not valid.

Did any one else get an e-mail from them for this demo and if so, did your code work?
played the demo. once again, it feels like a ps1 game with sort of decent graphics. imo, motorstorm is probably ps3's most disappointing franchise thus far.

I got a code as well, but haven't used it. I was actually going to offer it up here to anyone that wanted it. I'm just not into playing betas/demos of games I'm not going to get at release.

You have a problem with a PS3 game. There's a shocker.

The demo is out on the UK store for free. About a 5 minute process to setup a new account if you don't have one.

I thought it was very mediocre.
The demo was pure garbage. This went from a day 1 to maybe a later pick up.

I guess once I've played the sweetness that is Need for Speed, this game just doesn't stack up.
To those who tried the demo and didn't like it, what about it was so bad?

Did it just not live up to the hype? Is it not as good as the previous titles?
I thought the "little" demo was pretty good. It was just a small portion of the game to give a preview and that it did. I'm pretty sure the full game will be even more fun.

The demo is pretty cool, just like what the videos have been showing. I've dug around for impressions from gamers who have the full copy (it's out in Europe), and most of their comments say they like it a lot, but the story cutscenes are extremely lame:

Quote:

This game is freaking awesome. Evolution's best work ever.

Quote:

OK, I'm seriously impressed with this game. It's really, really awesome. Feature pack is incredible. Collectibels, progressive trophies etc. The entire presentation is awesome, the cutscenes are drawn incredibely well. I like the handling A LOT and I think the boost part is done better than than in Pacific Rift.

Really, don't miss out on this game. It wasn't even on my radar and I'm shocked at how good it is and how they managed to create an awesome atmosphere around pure racing.

Also, the graphics and art style are in my opinnion, better than in Rift. Motion blur is absent, but everything else is great. Poor explosions from low res alpha in Rift has been resolved. I'm playing on a 720p display, so I imagine it looks even better on a Full HD screen.

Quote:

Got my copy in the mail yesterday. Played for about 4 hrs, 60% completion. Up to now it's been a breeze to come in first place.

Some pretty varied tracks, from highways to rooftops. But thought there would be more destruction. A little bit disappointed about that so far.

Loading times are loooong. But restart a race happens instantly.

Couldn't test online or leaderboards, servers wasn't up yet.

That Boardwalk-race with the hurricane is frantic!

Like the idea with those cards to collect on each stage, a bit like the billboards in Burnout. Missed most of them so there must be a lot of routes to discover yet.

Quote:

Got the game today, really enjoying it so far! I don't really like the urban environments as much as I liked the jungles and volcanoes in MSPR, but other than that it's good old MS fun! I'm still at the early stages, so I'm expecting the destruction to get more chaotic along the way.

Got the patch when I fired the game up for the first time, no idea what it does.

EDIT: Holy , just played the "Skyline" track. That's one of the most epic and action-packed tracks I've ever played in a racing game. Brilliant!

The demo track stands as the least interesting one so far. I sure wonder why they chose that one for the demo, when there are loads of much more awesome tracks in the game...

Quote:

The Skyline track is an instant classic. Love it.

Quote:

Alright, I have played a couple of tracks now. My impression so far is; fantastic.

The demo track is BY FAR the worst one so far, and I still liked that one. The other stages, especially the first race you have in Skyline, is jaw-dropping.

I would dare calling this game one of the best-looking and technically-proficient games on the PS3 without hesitation. There's SO much going on in some of the stages, and all without dropping many frames. Just gorgeous.

Quote:

Skyline is ING amazing. This game is ING amazing. Anyone who gave this game 7 is clueless about meaning of word "fun". This game is a gem of arcade racing. If you like racing games in the slightest, GO BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY. It's mindblowing how this game got these low scores. Believe, This is arcade racing done right.

Quote:

While I generally dislike hyperbole, my first time with this game has been incredibly fun, so I honestly agree with you. I loved Pacific Rift, but so far, everything points to this being several times better. If anything, the only thing that can put a damper on my enthusiasm is if the rubberbanding turns to later on.

Quote:

Try the looking behind you trick if the AI start to cheat. You'd never know, it might still work.

Quote:

Having played it now for a couple of hours I'll say this:

The story mode is so I hope the people responsible for the aweful comics and the guy who approved of this gets fired and never again work in the industry. If the Evolution team needs inspiration on how to construct an over-the-top story for the apocalypse play Brütal Legend and listen to the Legend of Ormagadden stories. That's how you do cartoon cool. In fact, all you need is the guy who did the voice over for the intro in Motorstorm 1 talking about engines and you have a story.

Action was always the strongest suit with Motorstorm and I've always regarded it as an action game first and a racer second. This is very true of Apocalypse and it really works out great. The racing is fast, brutal and lush. The pacing is awesome and the variation in tracks and vehicles are balanced.

I can see how people will rate down this since there are so many things that stand out as bad. The "story" mode being one. Hopefully they'll patch those out so that noone needs none the wiser. It also isn't sure exactly who this is marketed to. It seems to me that I'm one of the people who should be on that list and I've skipped every single "cut-scene" and I cringe at the animesque loading screens. I like engines, action and visual fidelity--it's there but you have to wade through some to get there.

Quote:

The full game is FANTASTIC. omgawd! Easily my favourite Motorstorm game so far. The story mode is , but isn't that to be expected? It's a racing game!

Some of these tracks are awesome. <3 Very impressed with this game. 3D makes it all even sweeter.

Quote:

The cutscenes are super-lame, indeed, but they're so short and unintrusive that I don't care. Thank god I can separate this fault from the actual core of the game; the fun driving.

Quote:

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! I just played the Tornado level. Sweet lord have mercy. O_o

Quote:

Game is perfect so far. Love the new photo mode. Graphics are great. A 5 or 6 for graphics in this game = lost all credibility. If you play frmo the hood game, it looks as if not more spectacular than the old MS. Lighting is great, FSAA as well and the resolution is even higher than in PR and MS. Blur is still there, toned down though. Controls are good so far, it's less moon physics than in MS2 and MS1. It still feels like MS because it's so rough and brutal. Nothing like the clean sterile racing in Split Second. There is no comparioson between those games.

The comics don't bother me...they are "ok" I guess. It helps a bit to understand the whole festival thing going on. You can skip them if you want and just choose the races you want to do in a seperate menu, just like in the old motorstorm games. In the story mode you can unlock special races and collect "cards" on the track. I love stuff like this, seems like there is a lot of content. Factor in the online mode and I guess this game will be in my PS3 for a long time.

Oh, and most epic start of a racing game ever. Really great.
After playing SS I can honestly say I'm am excited to get MS:A. The MS:A demo is better than anything in SS so far. I want to race, not trigger some cheap stunts.
well now that the servers are up. here are my impressions of the full game.

loading times in mutliplayer are as bad as in part 2 unfortunate. also had my game crashed 2 times when i wanted to play online.

for online gaming you have now perks like you have in call of duty.

about single player. you have seen nothing in gaming until your are playing Pro and then seeing the tornado level. it is absurd what is possible in a computergame. never ever has something be shown like this. it is unbelievble how incredible action packed it is. imagine the movie twister x 1000. you see ships falling through the sky. while tornado rushes. wind picking ups sutff. building collapse. fun fair collapsing. and your still driving without slowdown.

basicly the game is like motorstorm on roids.

also this has to be mentioned as well.

when you first start as rookie. your car texture is very low. it loosk pretty ugly. but this is the prologue. after that it gets better and better.

again it shows that gaming magazines have no clue on what great games are. this game is by far the best car destruction game ever. it is pure arcade racing fun. i just can not phantom how someone can not like this game if your into race games.

also the steering is now a bit easier then motorstorm rift. it is still hardcore. but cars are less jumpy. and cornering is more easy.

all in all what the game should have really scored is

7 for audiotrack.

10 for audio effects. seriously best audio effects you ever heard in a game. when eartquake starts rolling. and you have your audio trough HDMI lossless it is amazing.

graphics for cars 7
graphics for envirement 10

gameplay 9.5 so much stuff to collect. perks, new cars, model parts, single player. multiplayer.

you will be busy for a while

anyway this is my short rant. i am going to get soem sleep. tommorow more gaming and my 3D impressions. will go to a friend of mine with 3D tv so lets see how that will be

gnight

Wow....

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion I guess, but that is simply crazy talk from my standpoint. I bought a PS3 the day it launched, and there really wasn't any good games available at launch (Resistance was pretty good, but you know what I'm sayin...)

The first Motorstorm was available in Japan in December 2006, so I paid the extra cash to get a copy shipped to me, and I was able to play the Japanese version of Motorstorm for like 4 or 5 months before the US version came out. That game basically lived in my PS3. I never took the thing out, because I was just totally addicted to it. The graphics were absolutely amazing (remember, we're talking late 2006, very early 2007 here), the sound was amazing, and the playability was amazing. What more could I have asked for?

When Pacific Rift came out, I didn't immediately run out and buy it, because I was still playing thru the first game, and wanted to completely finish the first game before getting Rift. Well, ultimately, I never did end up getting Rift, but when I bought a 3DTV, I did end up getting the 3D Rift that was available on PSN. Again, another amazing game imo.

Apocalypse does have some things about it that concern me. I don't like the fact that you seem to just bounce off walls and things, and it doesn't seem like you crash like you do in the first two games. Sure, I know the way that you crashed in the first two games was probably very frustrating to people who couldn't get used to that style, but I eventually got used to it, and knew how the game did it's thing. Now, it seems that they are trying to cater more to the casual crowd, so you don't seem to crash as much as you used to, which is good in a way (I guess), but I don't know... It seems like it has lost that true Motorstorm feel, and it seems like it's almost a different game now.

Still, the 3D looks very good, and it's likely to be a showcase among 3D games on the PS3, so I'll probably pick it up when I can find it on sale somewhere. I doubt I'll run out and buy it on day 1, but I'm still looking forward to it. Meanwhile, I'll continue to play 3D Rift.

BTW this game was delayed in the US too.
