New Mortal Kombat coming in 2011. - Page 2

I'm not seeing that. Even if one title isn't bringing in CoD sales, the variety of supported fighting games worldwide is probably bigger than ever. Fighting game tournies show this to be so, as they are hugely popular and often offer thousands of dollars to the best players who win the big ones.

As for individual games, Street Fighter 4 was and continues to be really big, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is doing well, the future Tekken Tag Tourney 2 has a strong buzz as does the SFvTekken & TekkenvSF crossover titles. This new Mortal Kombat is getting some good praise as well.

Even if some players grow out of fighting games, they are always replaced by new ones who grow into them. The popularity of fighting one-on-one will have ebbs and flows like any genre, but these type of titles will still be strongly supported as long as gaming is around. It's like saying people will grow tired of football games. Fighting 1v1 is simply another competitive "sport".

With that said, for Mortal Kombat they at least added a huge solo feature with all of the various challenge stages in the Tower:

Yeah 60 dollars seems like a bit much, especially for mortal kombat, but I like that tower system. Look like it'll keep it interesting.
There was a time where I would be one of those people who would finish all 300 levels on mortal kombat. And boy do I want to, but I know I probably won't find the time.

I love this series and will buy the game simply out of pure nostalgia, good to see that it should be somewhat worth it and I can get plenty of hours out of it if I want to.

How in the world would charging a normal PS3 game price be a bit much? It's a full game, possibly more full featured than any other fighting game out there, and will quite possibly provide HUNDREDS of hours of competitive online/offline/single player play.

I have hundreds of hours put into SF4 and SSF4 which both combined cost about $110 after tax (plus the cost of my first generation $150 TE stick) and I would never ever complain. I would have paid quite a bit more for the entertainment value per dollar.

How cheap can you be? If fighting games aren't your thing, don't buy it. But just because it's not worth it to you doesn't mean they're over charging.

Um, are you retarded or something?

I never said it wasn't worth it, and I never said fighting games weren't my "thing." In fact, I said I love the series and that I was going to buy it.

Yes I think 60 bucks is a little much, but I think that for every game. Fighter or not. Oh and because you apparently can't do math along with not being able to read, you spent only $50 on those two games each, and with tax, about 55. That, my ignorant little friend, is less than $60 or $65, the average going price for ps3 games (according to you of course.)

Furthermore, I also stated that I was glad the game had lots of replay value and that it would be worth my time, since you seemed to have missed it, see "tower system." Whether or not I think its worth is equal to any other random game is irrelevant because I said that it does have worth. I'm glad you have tons of hours into SF4 and SSF4 cause those have everything to do with mortal kombat

But since I've seen too many people get into stupid arguments over the internet with uneducated folks like you, I will move on with this discussion and simply leave you with something written in your own style so maybe you'll wise up.

How dumb can you be? If not reading and not thinking twice before you speak or write isn't your thing, then don't post on forums. Just because you have no idea how to comprehend things after you read them doesn't mean the person who wrote it is as ignorant as you.

Any word on how they will do online multiplayer?

If I do a quick match or something I dont want to be paired with the Uber-God-of-Kombat. Im an average to above average skill at fighting games and dont want to get my ass handed to me (literally in this game) everytime I play online.

Having fun with the demo and gonna get this day 1 most likely

SF4 was $60 new and SSF4 was $40 new. Cute.

Thank you for your incredibly entertaining overly defensive and hostile post. I got quite a laugh out of it and I'm sure others will as well.

Oh, and if any MODS punish me in any way for any posts I've made, I will be disgusted with this board. I had not one direct personal attack in either of my posts and his post was laced with them. If I get in trouble for any rhetorical comments I made towards him, I'll laugh.

the unreal engine suits this game well.

the animation is as bad as the first mortal kombal game. which brings that nostalic factor in. and the detail of charter is great, like always with the unreal engine.

will defenitly buy this on openings day.

i also like that the fatalities are not that hard to pull of this time. although it seems to me those special stage fatalitites will be a bitch to do as usual.

ah well goodtimes. just hope online will be smooth

The last one online I played was Deception (my fav!), and for that one, you would be in a lobby where you could see everyone elses name, record, rank, etc. Anyone could click on any name and request a fight with them. It pops up on there tv saying something to the effect of "Wurms has challenged you, do you wish to fight".

So hopefully with the new game it's the same kind of system. Who knows, they might also have a "quick match" option.

played the demo. it definitely harks back to the original mk games. but i also remembered that i don't really care too much for fighting games. that being said, i'm still getting this just to have it in my collection. after all, you never know when the day will come that games like this are banned.

More details on the Olympic god in MK:

Quote:

Yes, Kratos has an ending. But there's a catch. From the start, we decided we wouldn't put him into the Story and have him interacting with Scorpion or things like that, Boon explained. But when you conquer the Arcade ladder, you'll get your just desserts. We do explain what happens when Kratos wins the tournament, Boon hinted, describing the endings as a lot more elaborate than in prior games.

Yes, Kratos has a fatality. No, we're not going to spoil it here. We had 10 fatality ideas we wanted to do, Boon teased. But the final versions are in line with all the crazy deaths you've seen in God of War over the years. Boon hinted that Netherrealm Studios is making creative use of Kratos' weapons in designing his kills, adding, It's probably over the top, but we've always been over the top.

Yes, Kratos has a stage. And yes, it has a stage fatality. It has the best stage fatality we've put into any Mortal Kombat game ever, Boon said excitedly without further elaboration. The stage itself was inspired by the end of God of War III, when Kratos battles Zeus in the Chamber of Flame. That fight had an almost fighting-game mechanic, Boon said, so when we saw that we thought, It's writing itself!

Yes, Kratos is being carefully balanced. How do you balance a character who is practically omnipotent? Not an easy question. Kratos is interesting because his God of War fighting style is so long range - it's designed for crowds, Boon said. That approach won't necessarily fly in a one-on-one fighting game, so Mortal Kombat emphasizes Kratos' close-range brute strength and reserves the long-ranged attacks for special moves. Anyone who loved MKII or MK3, which are particulatly combo-centric, are going to be happy with Kratos.

Yes, Kratos uses X Weapon. He has more weapons in this game than any of our other characters by a factor of two, Boon confirmed. We spotted the Bow, Cestus, Blade of Olympus, Icarus Wings, Helios head and, of course, the Blades of Chaos.

No, Kratos won't participate in Test Your Might. We're not too shy about putting our Mortal Kombat characters in silly situations, Boon said. There's just no humorous side to Kratos, Boon said. You're not going to see Kratos do a Friendship we kept him out of those situations out of respect.

Why do people cry about the price of games? I paid $55 for mk3 close to 15 years ago.. compared to the cost of of a lot of other things these days the prices aren't that crazy. If you buy a game that sucks or you don't like and pissed off because you didnt do your research, then that's your fault.
I think I know what it is. Those of us who think quality fighters are worth the full price appreciate the fun to be had from studying all of the different attack strategies, frame data, move lists and combo creativity in them, and that's before you talk about the incredible thrill of competition.

To this day, no competitive genre gets me more excited than outwitting my opponent 1v1 in a fighting game. Nothing gets me more focused on hardcore practice than getting destroyed by some opponent's offensive strategy that I was unable to figure out in the arena.

Some gamers don't feel that way about games like this, so to these fighter-casuals who can't appreciate the longevity that they offer hardcore players, the $60 price tag is not worth it.

Here's a full tag team match with the ninja characters. You can see how the flow of the game is a lot better in it. BTW, local 4-player 2v2 mode has been confirmed.

Genesis and Super nes games were 7-80bux back and the days if you guys remember. Figure in inflation and they were over 100 dollars, not to mention we didn't have such thing as BOGO's on games back then.

Hey guys. Love the MK demo. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue. One of my controllers doesnt work right in the game. All the buttons on the right (square, circle, etc)dont work when the match is going on. It works in the menus, but not in game. And it works in other games. The other controller works as it should. Any ideas what could be going wrong ?

No clue buddy, sorry.

If you planned on waiting to by MK used, be aware!

Warner Bros. may be following in the (very large) footsteps of Electronic Arts and THQ when it comes to discouraging -- or at least profiting from -- the sale of used games. Joystiq has learned from a tipster that when Mortal Kombat hits shelves on April 19, its box will include an "online pass" token that must be redeemed before playing online. At present, WBIE evidently intends to do the same for its high-profile releases F.E.A.R. 3 and Batman: Arkham City. Since the latter won't feature multiplayer, though, the token would have to unlock some other (equally attractive) content.

According to an email obtained from our source, which appears intended for retailers, WBIE won't be promoting the pass -- in fact, no reference to it will appear on the game's packaging. Instead, it is apparently providing retailers with details on the pass, including how to purchase a new one if you're buying a used copy of the game. Unsurprisingly, a new pass will run 800 Microsoft Points / $10 for Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively. We've contacted WBIE for comment on this information. You can find an excerpt from the retailer email past the break.

One controller probably needs to be changed to "controller 2" or whatever.

The game is probably looking for a certain controller number in the game and perhaps it's set to controller 3 or 4.

Hold down the PS button on that controller and try the different controller settings.
