I would like to know what is the result you get right now. How can we know the current firmware version on the TV? I guess we should upgrade the different firmware in a sequence.

At least on the upside if the TC-L42U25 doesn't do proper 24p, they say that the TC-L42U30 coming out will. They seem to call it "24p Cinematic Playback."

I didn't try going past first line support so I cannot guarantee it is accurate, but a customer service rep at Panasonic just e-mailed me that the TC-L42U25 does not support proper 24p. The way the response is written seems like they may not have fully understood the question, though.

on another note does anyone know if this TV accepts 1080p over component or VGA?

i've looked through the manual i downloaded from their site and it mentions nothing about component and doesn't show 1920x1080 in the supported resolutions for PC input

i want to get 1080p from my xbox360 and it's an older non-hdmi model

Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the volume setting for when the set starts from a timer? My set comes on at 6:30 every morning and the volume is way too loud. It doesn't matter how low I set the volume when I turn the set off the night before, it still comes on too loud the next morning. If I happen to wake up before 6:30 and turn the set on the volume is where I left it the night before so it seems to be something in the software that has a preset volume for timers and I can't find a way to adjust it. Thanks.

I guess the only 2010 model televisions from Panasonic that offer their "24p Cinematic Playback" feature are their top of the line VT25 series plasma sets. It seems silly considering the fact that the TC-L42U25 set already operates at a multiple of 24Hz and LG has implemented proper 24p playback on 60Hz sets by using 48Hz.

At least the soon to be released TC-L42U30 (see specs) claims to have "24p Cinematic Playback" implemented. I know I'll be watching closely to see when it hits the stores.

Not to steal the floor here, but I am curious--what settings are you all using? I understand each setting can be subjective and are based upon the environment in which your TV resides, but I'd like to have something to compare with my current uncalibrated settings.

I e-mailed Panasonic to verify that the specs on the TC-L42U30 are correct as listed on their site, and they informed me that just like the TC-L42U25 it only does 3:2 pulldown. So much for that.

I informed them that LG and Sony televisions are capable of 5:5 pulldown, and they said that they would pass that along to their engineers "for consideration." I guess somebody over there dropped the ball!

Too bad, really a missed opportunity. Really surprising that even the upcoming TC-L42U30 sticks with 3:2.

Just picked up the U22 for a bedroom TV. It was super cheap. Problem.... viewing angles are aweful. I just have never liked LCD. Plasma has always treated me well. Just hate the perma-burned in ESPN.

Can you please post your video settings if you calibrated the the U22 or U25. Maybe some correct video settings will improve the PQ. Thanks.

24p Smooth Film Yes. From Panasonic's website on this TV. Consumer Reports in mail box tonight. Good TV overall.

a thought popped in my head... i wonder if it would be possible for panasonic to get the 24p playback working at 5:5 through firmware updates (provided i could actually get a friggin update to work)

i've compared sending 24p to the TV and letting it do the 3:2 pulldown vs letting my player handle the 3:2 and the TV's 3:2 sucks

There's either something wrong with their updates, or something wrong with my TV. But if you are having problems as well, then I'll just assume they don't actually test their firmware on their tv's, cause they won't download to the tv.

The only one that does actually go through the update process is one of the older ones from their FTP site, and that one is 2x as big in file size.

I even had their tech support mail me the firmware on their own SD card, because I had tried every different file system format on multiple different SD cards, and thought it might be some proprietary format they use. The just used FAT or FAT32 (I forget which one they use offhand, just know it was FAT).

Anyway, I emailed tech, and they want me to call in... I'm not gonna waste my time calling them again. If they knew the answer, they could spend 5 minutes and type me an email.

I am not able to install 2.15 either.

Has anyone been able to?

They have the worst hold music I've ever heard... wtf is this? This is more like "hold random sounds".

Is there something in the menu that would cause the screen to blank after a few hours(the sound continues to work)?

I got this for my mom and it is blanking after 2 hours or so, just wanted to know if it is broken or just needs something changed in the setup. I won't be able to take a look at the actual tv for a few weeks.

Also, I'm not sure what firmware version it has, it was purchased 1/11

Any new updates regarding getting past the SD Card Error 0002 when updating the firmware to v2.15.

I'm having the same problem trying to get the v2.09 and/or v2.15 to install. Like all the posters above I've tried everything. I used the Panasonic SD formatter on my SanDisk 2GB SD Card and dropped the SDImage.bin on the card. No dice.

Any luck?

I take it there still is NO solution to the error 0002 issue.

I was never able to get my firmware updated. Tried everything. Panasonic even sent me the firmware on their own SD card, and it will wouldn't update. They obviously don't know what they are doing over there, or never actually tested it on this model TV.

If anyone was able to get it to work please reply back with how you got it to work.
