Doubt it will plug into the "main" board of the HX800. It's listed as compatible with only certain EX, NX, & HX models. See here-

thanks hannerdwn. I bet the hardware port is there, wonder what the pin outs are on that board and if I can splice it into a usb cable. I can't imagine that they would make different connections.

Anyone know if I would get into trouble taking the back of the TV off?

It has 5 pins, exactly like a USB. I bet I can just wire that to a USB cable, but if anyone knows where I can find the pinouts I would appreciate it.

OK. Found this page that says that the chip is indeed usb, non-standard interface. http://www.wikidevi.com/wiki/Mitsumi_Electric_DWM-W046 I also see on the left side of the circuit board it has two pins that are likely for the antenna (my guess). One has the delta with a J3, another the O with a J2. I happen to have a wifi antenna from an old router. Any help with which to try to hook to where would be appreciated.

Seems like you are going to quite a lot of time and effort when you can just buy a regular USB wifi adapter. The only help I could give you is the service manual for this model Tv.

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with (7 flashes) internal temperature errors with this model or similar models.

The set will turn on and run for anywhere between 5min to a few of hours. After it shuts down and gives the temperature error it may take a day or so before it turns back on. I have got the service manual on from an online source. I have only seen a couple of other peoples comments on forums that have had similar problems. The majority of problems I have seen are for the other error codes.
I have entered the service and self diagnostic areas of the set to see what was going on there. The temperature error is the only error that has occurred. The set has the latest firmware download. The set is in an open area so there are no problems with ventilation. I have the back off at the moment to run it without any air restriction to see what happens and it responds to same as if the back is were on. I have also ran the set with a small fan blowing around the BAL board and it ran around over 15 hours that way . Not sure if the fan helped or not but that is the observation.
The 3-4 error flow chart in the service manual says that it is possible that the BAL board or the panel may be at fault but the 3-1 triage chart doesn't show the panel as a possible cause, it only shows the BAL board. I am at a loss the figure out why the internal temperature sensor is shutting down the TV when there is plenty on air flow around the sensor itself. Are these sensors prone to go bad? Has a prior hi-temp situation made the temp sensor more sensitive? If the panel is in question, what is it about the panel that would trigger the temp sensor to shut down the TV. Is it ambient heat from the panel around the temp sensor or heat build-up in the circuit of the temp sensor relative to the panel.
I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Replacing the BAL board is your only course of action. It may or may not solve the problem permanently or temporarily. Sometimes the problem returns later, which theoretically means it's coming from the panel (then your done). What causes it or why etc, is a question for Sony engineers that only discuss these things amongst themselves.

Anyway, Sony gave me a few choices for the "upgrade" and below is what they offered. I tried to negotiate for a better deal and a different model, but they wouldn't budge... maybe I just suck at negotiations.

1. 55HX750 refurbished (no charge + 2 year warranty)
2. 55HX750 new ($329.99 + tax & free shipping; standard 1 year warranty)
3. 55HX850 new ($829.99 + tax & free shipping; standard 1 year warranty)

Thanks for all who spent the time tinkering with settings and contributed this thread! :thumbs up:

Dude! How's it going?

How is that 850 treating you?

Been a while; just thought I would check back into my all-time-favorite blog thread wink.gif

Any opinions out there whether Sony will have a firmware update that allows Netfix to be streamed in their new SUPERHD format to our sets. My ISP is Cablevision and I am able to get the 1080P streaming via Windows 8 but not my HX800. My guess is that our sets are too old by their standards and are not worth the effort. It would be nice though.

Found of these at Best buy "open item" for around $450. It was used as the PS3 demo station in the game section. It has been running for near 10 hours a day for the last 2 1/2 year,so I figure if anything were to wrong it would have happened. I am thinking of picking it up to day. From reviews and the GM allowing me to hook up my PS3 in store and test out was blown away by 2-D performance. It has image depth and natural sharpness I have only seen on plasma displays with the pop of on LED/LCD.

Don't hold your breath;
HD flat-panel televisions are consumables now..

I have a larger living room now (viewing distance ~10 ft) and I think I am going to upgrade my 46HX800 to a 60EX645. Does anyone have both of these and can make a comparison. I'm only worried about picture quality, not features.

Mplates ; A new BR player might be less than a panel.

I have the KDL-46HX800 and I've noticed when watching 4:3 dvd's over HDMI the image gets streched, with no way of selecting/switching it to 4:3 (the original aspect ratio). Do others have this problem as well? Is it a known issue? CAn it be fixed?

When using the analogue connections it's no problem to watch 4:3.

Home > Picture & Display > Screen > Wide Mode > Normal. If this doesn't work the settings in your player need to be adjusted.
Indeed. I discovered all my blu-ray and dvd-players were set to 'Auto' or '1080'. Somehow it nullifies the option to set the screen to 4:3 with HDMI (but it still works SCART and Component...).

One Users update: Reliability and other "issues" on big screen TV's was one of my concerns before buying one, and maybe why I waited so long to buy one. Anyway now two and a half years on my HX800 40. No problems. I do hear it "click" sometimes when I am home and it is turned off. This makes me think that it tries to turn itself on (a known issue with these sets) , but the relay path is disabled. It was 2 things I changed in settings that disable the path- maybe energy saver and auto light? I can't remember. Since I did that no turn on or turn off issues. I have done no updates since day one. No banding, clouding or pixel problems. Still Happy with my choice.
Glad to hear it. It's been almost 3 years since purchasing my HX800 50". Still the best picture I have seen of my family and friends that have HD TV's. Not even close. Couldn't be happier

Photo full resolution display on 55HX800?

Just got a Sony 55HX800, very impressed with sample photos which came with the TV, the vivid color and dynamic range, etc. However when I tried to view some my own photos of high resolutions: 4000x3000 from a Nikon camera stored on my iMac, with a DLNA media server. Somehow the photo was displayed on the Sony TV not in full screen, only took 50% in both directions. My understanding is that the TV's display resolution can display 1920x1080 pixels, and my photo resolution is much higher than that, then why the photo can't displayed properly.

Another question is if the Sony's Photomap service is still available to show a photo's location based on GPS tagging?

Thanks for your help in advance, I am new to AVS forum.

Hi - just wondering if anyone's had issues trying to get 3D working on the 46HX800? I've had mine for two years but as it's my secondary display only just now got around to getting the transmitter and glasses. I'm having serious issues trying to get it to show a 3D image.

My receiver doesn't do 3D passthrough so I'm just going player > tv so I know it's not an issue there. The player definitely does 3D as well. I've tested multiple high speed cables and none have solved the issue and they were of differing manufacturers so it's not an issue with one cable. The transmitter appears to be working OK - I can see the red LEDs illuminated in it so I can only assume it's doing what it's supposed to be doing.

I've tested a number of discs. Life of Pi gives me the message that "Your Blu-ray 3D player has not detected that is connected to a 3D display" which would seem to indicate its an issue with the display. On Sony 2D/3D discs it defaults to 2D playback. The 3D menu options are there on the Sony TV menu so it's picking up that the transmitter's there but the only options are the simulated 3D ones.

The only thing I can think of is the glasses. I've only got one pair at the moment as my other setup is a Panasonic projector and their glasses don't function with the Sony TV. If there was an issue with the glasses I'm wondering whether the transmitter can detect that it's not synced to glasses and therefore the 3D option doesn't present itself. I think I've exhausted all other potential options that I can come up with.

If anyone's got any suggestions I'd definitely appreciate it!

not sure, you can test all the hdmi high speed cables you want but I believe, Sony used only HDMI 1.4a I think, some 1.3 ?.?.
though some might work ok for a while.

my quote: do not go through the quick menu options for the 3D use the
main menu and be sure it is set for 3D input turned on auto detect. the quick menu is for simulated 3D or
3D broadcast pic over/under; pic side by side and only simulated 3D.
it has been a while and since I have upgraded to hx850.
you may also need to have TV set to HDMI 1 or '2 may not work' (3D will not work through RGB cables (disconnect them)) you also have
built in i-manual and it may help direct you.
make sure you have the software on both the TV and BR player up to date.

Firmware release 4.117 is available but I hesitate to update the software unless there is a very good reason. Improved performance and stability of Internet features has not seemed to be an issue for me. If anyone has installed this latest update and has some feedback, I would like to read your comments.

Thanks
Mine updated a few weeks ago. No adverse affects. Haven't noticed any improvements or changes but I don't use any "internet features" in the Tv.

Almost 3 years later and still going strong. I have since changed from Dish to Tivo to WMC7 ceton cablecard, use amazon prime, play bluray, have 7.1 audio, and just received the 3D emitter + some glasses. Did a quick setup/test and ready to watch Iron Man and Tron Legacy in 3D this weekend!

My 40HX800 is still wonderful after almost 3 years.
Great pq, wonderful 3d....etc.

I have been having problems pulling up any internet apps. I've refreshed the connection, pulled power, to display, router, and modem.

Any Ideas? I am hardwired, and have auto updates turned on. Not sure where I can see the firmware, so I tried updating manually and it says I have the latest.

When I try to open anything (Netflix, Hulu, Pandora etc...) I just get the empty spaces and spinning light. I can even back out, I have to power down and back on.

This use to happen intermittently, but it has become more and more frequent.

So it works sometimes or you now cannot get it to work at all? Maybe try a Factory Reset. Just be aware it will wipe all passwords, channel mapping, picture/sound settings, etc...
With the Tv On
Point the remote at the Tv
Press & Hold the UP ARROW button on the remote
Press Power on the side panel of the Tv
The Tv should shut down and come back on then you can release the remote button
Should be all reset and may present you with initial setup

Hi guys,

I just bought this TV used from Craigslist and have a couple of questions.

1) Mine is missing the RF/coax input, it was like that when I bought it. Is it an easy fix or am I gonna have to go with a vcr/cable box?

2) It didn't include the stand. Does anyone know where I can get a good stand for this set. Not a wall-mount but a good sturdy table stand

3) It didn't come with the original remote either. Any recommendations for a universal remote that will have all the features of the original?

4) No 3D glasses either. Does anyone know what kind of glasses and where to buy them?

What kind of signal do you plan on watching? over the air, cable, HD, etc?

They didn't come with a stand. Any reputable stand will work. All depends on how much you want to spend. (The omnimount echo stands are nice inexpensive stands)

Any Logitech Harmony remote will work. (Again depends on your budget) You can find used ones for $40

Sony brand glasses are models BR250 (rechargeable) or the older BR100 (battery powered) The Playstation 3 glasses also work but are cheaper (both in price and construction, but also lighter) There are also newer more expensive glasses. All depends on what you want, and what you want to spend. You can find the BR glasses on eBay pretty cheap these days. Keep in mind, you need a 3D source to watch 3D (As in, a 3D BluRay player and a 3D movie)
