Doubt it will plug into the "main" board of the HX800. It's listed as compatible with only certain EX, NX, & HX models. See here-

thanks hannerdwn. I bet the hardware port is there, wonder what the pin outs are on that board and if I can splice it into a usb cable. I can't imagine that they would make different connections.

Anyone know if I would get into trouble taking the back of the TV off?

It has 5 pins, exactly like a USB. I bet I can just wire that to a USB cable, but if anyone knows where I can find the pinouts I would appreciate it.

OK. Found this page that says that the chip is indeed usb, non-standard interface. http://www.wikidevi.com/wiki/Mitsumi_Electric_DWM-W046 I also see on the left side of the circuit board it has two pins that are likely for the antenna (my guess). One has the delta with a J3, another the O with a J2. I happen to have a wifi antenna from an old router. Any help with which to try to hook to where would be appreciated.

Seems like you are going to quite a lot of time and effort when you can just buy a regular USB wifi adapter. The only help I could give you is the service manual for this model Tv.

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with (7 flashes) internal temperature errors with this model or similar models.

The set will turn on and run for anywhere between 5min to a few of hours. After it shuts down and gives the temperature error it may take a day or so before it turns back on. I have got the service manual on from an online source. I have only seen a couple of other peoples comments on forums that have had similar problems. The majority of problems I have seen are for the other error codes.
I have entered the service and self diagnostic areas of the set to see what was going on there. The temperature error is the only error that has occurred. The set has the latest firmware download. The set is in an open area so there are no problems with ventilation. I have the back off at the moment to run it without any air restriction to see what happens and it responds to same as if the back is were on. I have also ran the set with a small fan blowing around the BAL board and it ran around over 15 hours that way . Not sure if the fan helped or not but that is the observation.
The 3-4 error flow chart in the service manual says that it is possible that the BAL board or the panel may be at fault but the 3-1 triage chart doesn't show the panel as a possible cause, it only shows the BAL board. I am at a loss the figure out why the internal temperature sensor is shutting down the TV when there is plenty on air flow around the sensor itself. Are these sensors prone to go bad? Has a prior hi-temp situation made the temp sensor more sensitive? If the panel is in question, what is it about the panel that would trigger the temp sensor to shut down the TV. Is it ambient heat from the panel around the temp sensor or heat build-up in the circuit of the temp sensor relative to the panel.
I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Replacing the BAL board is your only course of action. It may or may not solve the problem permanently or temporarily. Sometimes the problem returns later, which theoretically means it's coming from the panel (then your done). What causes it or why etc, is a question for Sony engineers that only discuss these things amongst themselves.

Anyway, Sony gave me a few choices for the "upgrade" and below is what they offered. I tried to negotiate for a better deal and a different model, but they wouldn't budge... maybe I just suck at negotiations.

1. 55HX750 refurbished (no charge + 2 year warranty)
2. 55HX750 new ($329.99 + tax & free shipping; standard 1 year warranty)
3. 55HX850 new ($829.99 + tax & free shipping; standard 1 year warranty)

Thanks for all who spent the time tinkering with settings and contributed this thread! :thumbs up:

Dude! How's it going?

How is that 850 treating you?

Been a while; just thought I would check back into my all-time-favorite blog thread wink.gif

Any opinions out there whether Sony will have a firmware update that allows Netfix to be streamed in their new SUPERHD format to our sets. My ISP is Cablevision and I am able to get the 1080P streaming via Windows 8 but not my HX800. My guess is that our sets are too old by their standards and are not worth the effort. It would be nice though.

Found of these at Best buy "open item" for around $450. It was used as the PS3 demo station in the game section. It has been running for near 10 hours a day for the last 2 1/2 year,so I figure if anything were to wrong it would have happened. I am thinking of picking it up to day. From reviews and the GM allowing me to hook up my PS3 in store and test out was blown away by 2-D performance. It has image depth and natural sharpness I have only seen on plasma displays with the pop of on LED/LCD.
