It's been a couple months since I watched 3d on a Panasonic at Best Buy. I would say it's on par or at least close to the Panasonic's 3D quality. Sony has their hands in every stage of 3D development from production of content to the hardware that it's displayed on. I don't believe that any other company can make that claim. That being said, I feel that Sony waited a bit longer to ensure that their 3D products could really showcase the technology. That's my 2 cents.


I am coming from a fairly high end surround set up, so it is difficult for me to review the speakers. I would give them a thumbs up based on some of the network content I watched through the speakers. I didn't have any of the effects/enhancements turned on, and I felt that they were still better than my Samsung A550 and my friend's LG.

Yeah, I would say that's a great trade off Out of cuiosity, how did you manage to get that deal with Sony?

I have only played the four 3D games that were included with the tv. I also watched soccer, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and a demo disk on the display model. I have played around with the 3D upconversion as well. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 3D and IMAX Deep Sea Adventure 3D are included with the tv, but you have to register online for them. I am probably holding out for the Denon DBP-1611, as it should be out this month. If I bought a Sony, it would probably be the S770, but I'm not sure when it is coming out.

My copy is being sent to me after registering, but I watched some of it at the store. The were playing it on an S570.

I am still thrilled with it, but have primarily viewed 2D content on it. I have played a handful of 3D games, and they all look great. The rest of the 3D content was viewed on the display model. I was looking for a set that had some of the best 2D quality with the future friendliness of having 3D capability. After playing with the settings, I actually prefer the picture on the set with most of the enhancement options turned off. I turned off a black enhancement setting that almost eliminated some minor black crush. The color is extremely vibrant and this set has the deepest blacks I've ever seen on an edge lit set. The local dimming and deep black panel seem to make a difference. The glare is definitely worse than a matte screen, but not as bad as your typical glossy screen. I would still love to see some professional calibration settings for this display. In my opinion, you will be hard pressed to find a better lcd picture for less money than this. I notice no lag when playing timing sensitive games like Guitar Hero.

I just wanted to add to this conversation about PS3's 3D capabilities. I was told at the Sony Store that PS3 would not be capable outputting both 1080P 3D ,and Uncompressed/High Definition Audio through the HDMI 1.3. I am by no means saying that this factual, but just passing along what I was told.
