Onkyo just anounce a new feature on their upcoming series of AVRs that sound interesting. Silicon Image’s InstaPrevue™ technology. According to their press release http://www.us.onkyo.com/press_releases.cfm?id=243 InstaPrevue provides a live picture-in-picture preview of HDMI® and MHL inputs connected to the AVR, allowing users to view and select a live preview window to switch between source devices. Silicon Image’s InstaPrevue technology will be demonstrated at the 2012 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) from January 10-13

I really like Silicon Image, I have a HQV Realta video processor in my LCD Screen and I've always been impressed with the processing. This new feature seems like it would be great for monitoring security cameras (it seems like each camera will need their own input though). I hope the feature makes it onto their low end multi HDMI out AVRs.

PIP is standard on tv's now days wouldn't be a bi-product f the processing chipset..

hdmi hubs might be a while in coming with stand av/s-video in with hdmi out

kind of a redundant features to be included to an avr/processor i think

Projectors don't have PIP and that's what we're discussing here and in this case it is a function of the chipset, see the press release http://www.us.onkyo.com/press_releases.cfm?id=243

Doesn't seem like much of a leap to have split screen or even 4 screen! This is one of the major features I've been waiting for. Four 60" images on a 120" Projection screen! Now that's the way to watch sports! (I can know how much I owe my bookie in real time!). Can't wait til CES to get the details! Fingers crossed.

Onkyo to Include MP3tunes for Cloud Access to Personal Music Collections and Saved Internet Radio Programs with its 2012-model AVRs (Press release)

01/09/12 - UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ (1/9/12) -Onkyo, a brand renowned worldwide for quality home entertainment technology, has announced that it will include access to the MP3tunes.com's music Locker with its 2012-model network-capable AV receivers. Onkyo is believed to be the first AV receiver brand to incorporate MP3tunes access in its network operating system. This will allow MP3tunes subscribers to use an Onkyo network capable receiver to play personal music collections stored their MP3tunes' Lockers, which is what the company calls their cloud servers. MP3tunes allows subscribers to maintain up to 2 GB, or about 400 songs, for free, with fee supported accounts starting at $39.95 per year for 50 GB, or the equivalent to about 10,000 songs. Paul Wasek, National Marketing and Product Planning Manager, believes this a great new feature for any Onkyo customer. "MP3tunes Locker is an easy and secure means to maintain this data, while providing easy access through an Onkyo receiver, computer, smart phone, or any of the many network capable devices that support MP3tunes."
MP3Tunes capabilities will be included as standard on new Onkyo network capable receivers beginning in the first quarter of 2012.

Hello All..this is my first post ..go easy on me guys.

I have an 46" LCD (1st floor), 120" Projector (basement) and I would like to hook these to a Receiver that can handle 2 HDMI outs independently.

Both of these TVs have separate In wall speakears (5 and 7 respectively).

I looked all the suggestion from this posting but none of these have connections for speakers (second output).

I also spoke to Onkyo and none of their receivers can handle independent HDMI outs.

Integra receivers can handle independent HDMI outs but we must buy amplifier for speakers for second HDMI out.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

It... sounds like you're looking for... two separate, independent, complete receivers in one box, with a total of 12 amp channels?

Yes...something that can handle 5 + 7 speakers in both rooms.

Any suggestions?

To the best of my knowledge, nobody makes a "2 in 1" receiver, due to the high complexity (and therefore, cost) and minimal market demand for such a device.

I'm almost certain you won't find one.

Your best bet will probably be two receivers, one for each room, with matrix switches between them and the source devices.

thanks RoboRay ... This is my route too....

Great thread! Just wish the options were cheaper... All I need is a 5.1 receiver with 2 HDMI outputs.. I'll probably just buy something cheap and see if I can get a splitter to work.

Anyone had success using an HDMI splitter? I will only have one display device on at a time...

Street prices are actually alot less than the list prices shown here. $400 range for some.

Using an HDMI splitter, or a receiver with 2 HDMI outputs. These may work, But the problem can be the source, such as a ATT UV box, may NOT work when both outputs being use at the hdmi level at the same time . One at a time is ok, but not both.. I tried with a onkyo 3007, ran two hdmi to my samsung, wanted 6 picture modes, I needed to switch between main and sub hdmi output on my AVR, The "both" setting would mess up the ATT box...

I have never had a problem using both outputs simultaneously or individually through my Yamaha RX-867 from cable set top box, Samsung Blu-Ray, PC Blu-Ray from PowerDVD or PC desktop at all. What is "6 picture mode", PIP?

I recently picked the 1x2 HDMI® Amplifier Splitter at Monoprice (#8154) and it's been working great. I take the HDMI coming out of my Denon 2309CI receiver and run it into this splitter to feed my 50" Panasonic plasma and my new Panasonic PT-AR100U projector - both are in the same room. Since I was slightly concerned that the 40 foot HDMI cable to the projector might need a little boost I chose this splitter but the non-amplified and less expensive version (#8204) may have worked - just didn't want to chance it - plus the price difference was only $10.

The sammy plasma has 3 picture modes per hdmi input, I wanted to set one up for just xbox gaming. The onkyo has 2 hdmi outs main and sub. If I have it set for both, the ATT box will lockup.. Its a att problem with the hdmi output and copy right crap.. It just won't feed two tvs at once with the ATT UV box.. I don't use it that way, but I'm sure some would like to know about this...

I am planning on setting up a system similiar to what Thud2 has. I will have the choice of either watching my Samsung plasma TV or dropping an electric screen and using an epson 3d projector. It seems like a receiver with two hdmi outputs would work well for this.

I'm thinking that when I am using the TV for watching the news and such, I would only want to use the TV speakers. Does the AV receiver need to be turned on to do this or can it simply pass the signal through to the TV while in standby mode? If the receiver needs to be on for this, is there much power consumption when the 5.1 speakers aren't used?

A splitter would be another option but I am concerned about delays when changing channels and possible degradation of signal quality needed for 1080p 3d. Does having a reciever with 2 outputs take care of those issues?

Great thread, thanks.

I believe you can control whether most receivers route sound to speakers or pass it over HDMI to the set. And yes multi-out receivers are superior in their signal handling over splitters in every way. I would avoid splitters.

My monoprice powered splitter seems to work fine for now but I want a HDMIx2 output receiver. Time to replace the old trusty Denon I have. The new Aventage Yamaha line X10 series is rarely discounted. I just ordered a refurbished Yamaha RXV867 from TigerDirect.com at a great price, about half of what the A810 would cost. The site says it also comes with a 2 year warranty and tigerdirect is listed as an authorized Yamaha online dealer.

I hope they learned their lesson after the HDMI board problems they had on the last generation. My 606 bit the dust pretty quick.

Does anyone know of a receiver with matrix a matrix switch built in? I would be very interested in that functionality.
