Didn't even think of Avatar but that would be a good choice

Just got my UN46C6800 yesterday, very nice so far, still playing around with settings though. I was wondering if we could goad RochesterNYtry back here to share how his ISF tech set up his display so we could see if other settings people have posted are close...

Also have a random question for you all - did anyone install the little clip that's supposed to keep the power cord in place? Seems like I'd have to rip off the tag on the cord in order to use that clip.

I just picked up a UN46C6900 yesterday. Its a nice TV but I think I have an issue with my set. I have noticed the screen go black for a second or two from time to time. I have checked all my HDMI cables. Is this a known issue?

My understanding is its the way all Samsung LED's work. If the screen goes black for lack of signal(changing scenes, bluray players off,,,) instead of displaying a black screen it actually turns off.

If its turning off in the middle of a scene thats a problem. But if you read up in the other threads you'll see Hearaan & Squishy Tia(I think I got their names right) have proposed a few settings to remove that effect.

The calibration went well and I couldnt be happier with the results. I posted a review in the "display calibration" forum and it was performed by Michael Osadicow.

The color settings from factory were fubared and more than 10% outside 'ISF acceptable" ranges. After calibration none are more than 1-2% off which is considered "imperceivable" by ISF standards. He did a complete 10p white balance calibration for each interval and while it wasnt as bad as the RGB settings from factory he definetly made a noticeable and significant improvement. He nailed the Gamma settings across the board with none more than 2 hundredths of a point off our desired goal. He used the service menu to open up the "CAL DAY" & "CAL NIGHT" options in the menu. He calibrated each individually. We kept my previous "Movie" settings so I can cycle through Movie/CAL DAY/CAL NIGHT to see just how different things are. The specific settings are "locked in" via the service menu so theyre now the default. I've got the specifics settings just not in my hands this moment. Id gladly share the basics but the specifics really depend so much on your settings, your personal viewing habits and your personal set I doubt theyre applicable.

If hes in your area and your interested I cant recommend him enough. Go read the reviews and you'll see everyone loves the guy. Really a top notch professional.

hey Rochester, thanks for posting.

I think from reading previous posts you've had this TV for over a month now? Still looking good? Anything that surprised you (good or bad) after owning it for a while?

This is actually happening right at the transition of a scene, probably a second before the actually transition. If I rewind the DVR and go back over the same scene the issue didn't replicate itself. So this is a common thing then?

What your saying is at a potential scene change this might occur?

Also an odd question, sorry if this is a repeat I just haven't had that much time to read up on things or look at the other thread. Is the HDMI 1 (DVI) the only HDMI input that you can use for video/sound in? When this issue occurred yesterday, I tried to switch the HDMI cables to 2,3,4 but when I did that the TV blanked out the HDMI input that I had the cable plugged into on the source screen. It only allowed me to input my video in via hdmi 1 port.

Thanks

I could go on at length about any specific aspect but long story short is I have no complaints and only good things to say. The picture is exceptional and I feel like it was worth the price tag. I love how bright the picture is even after calibration, totally blacks out the wall behind it and pulls you into the scene.

Without seeing it for myself I dont feel comfortable saying either way if thats whats happening, but it sounds like it. Its most common for me on blurays while its switching from preview to preview or loading the movie up.

Regarding your HDMI question im sortof confused. All 4 HDMI ports should carry audio, if theyre not id venture to say somethings broke or a settings wrong somewhere. I have 1 single HDMI cable plugged into port 4 and it carrys my audio in just fine.

What I was trying to say was when I plugged in my DVR to hdmi port 2, hdmi port 3, or hdmi port 4 it would not produce a picture or sound. The port was unrecognized by the TV via the source list. Actually the hdmi port that I had it in wasn't even listed on the source list. The only hdmi port that would produce a picture or sound was hdmi port 1.

Also per the bb tech, she said that over time technology has fixed the ghosting issue (ex. odd effect when a person is walking along a fence and there is a ghost like thing around their body). Yet today I noticed a number of times this occurred, any suggestions?

Just picked up a 6900 from Best Buy today. It is replacing a 52 sony xbr3. Can't believe how great the picture is. I'm using raaj's settings and I am happy so far. I am thinking about getting an ISF calibration, anyone know of a good one in the Chicago area?

I will be taking my 6900 back for an exchange. I really don't want to because the screen has no clouding or flash lighting this is noticeable. The reason I am taking it back is because the screen occasionally goes black with the sound still playing. I was watching a UEFA soccer game today and it occurred a couple of times. Its very similar to a change of scene during during any tv or movie show. Its completely random and I have tried different HDMI cords (as I mentioned above). Hopefully I can get another sq01 with no clouding/flashlighting.

Got delivery of a 6800 and appreciate you guys for keeping this focused thread...hope more owners/shoppers join in from the other threads.

RochesterNYtry, would you mind re-posting your cal results here (or the link to your post)? I would love to use your results as a starting base for mine. Appreciate your feedback on the TV thus far.

Has anyone upgraded firmware versions on the 6900?

Purchased a 46" SQ01 panel a few weeks ago and have no issues at all.

I was looking at the software today and noticed that the factory installed version is 1012 and a online download version 1021 is available.

Can seem to find a website that explains the updates and changes within the firmware. Anyone have a reference?

I've read both sides of the coin: "Newer is always better" vs "If it's not broke don't fix it"

Would be great to hear others experience in regards to firmware updates. Thx.

Not to bring this thread back from the dead or anything, but I just got my C6800 in on Monday, and I can't be happier.

2 small annoyances though:
1) When playing Blu Ray movies, there seems to be a slight hiccup every once in awhile, almost like input lag I'm not sure if its the tv, my blu ray player, or the fact that it is running 24p. Any input? It's hard to determine, but I may be able to get a video of it
2) I'm almost sure this one is input lag - My friend brought his xbox 360 over, and we were playing halo reach, and we both noticed the controls to be different; slower basically. We both bumped up the look sensitivity, but its still somewhat there. When I hit the info button, I see that the game is running at 60hz. Is that why I'm seeing such lag? I'm not use to this because my HDTV back home is a big CRT, so this is my first flat panel tv.

Now I just need to play with the tv more (or read the manual), to figure out what all this thing can do. Guess it's also time for me to look into calibrating it too. So far though, I love this tv. Wish there were more reviews on it though

Did you try to set your TV to game mode when playing xbox360? It should take care of the input lag... Enjoy your new set!

Ok, just picked up the 6800 via Amazon (SQ01panel) and set it up using Raj's settings. So far so good. However, after reading through this thread, I haven't seen this issue addressed. Not sure how to explain it, but I'm getting what I can only call as "red" artifacts against black edges when there are fast motion scenes. Perfect example is the NHL commercial featuring Ovetchken. When they show a close up of his face as he's working out, I get red "dots" where his pupils used to be.

Anyone experience this and have a solution, is this simply an LCD shortcoming or did I get a bad panel?

I didn't know that existed. I'll have to get him to bring it back over to try it out. How do you fix overscan on this? I'm watching football on Fox, and I can't even see the away team's score cause there is so much

Just letting you folks know that since there had been some confusion, I asked the main moderator to change the thread that I originally started to remove the 6800 & 6900 models from it since your thread here covers those (2) models exclusively. Hopefully this will be less confusing. And as several have mentioned, there is a difference between the models. So the other thread has been changed to cover strictly the Samsung 6300, 6400 & 6500.
Hopefully this will help us all.

Thanks hearrean!! It's better to have just one thread dedicated to these models instead of digging in on huge threads.

Both Best Buy and Samsung webpages say the 6900 is 50.5 inches in width. Scrolling down the Samsung page it says 42 something inches. I would sooner believe the latter because the picture doesn't show speaker ears or anything of that nature and other 46 inch sets are in the 43 to 44 inch area.

I don't want to order a set that is too wide.

Can someone provide assurance?
the 55 inch 6800/6900 series (and all 6,7,8 series LED i believe) is about 50.6" in width (i know online it says 50.5"...i think in the owners manual it actually says 50.7"...I know my entertainment cabinet is exactly 51" in width and my 55C6800 fits with tiny room to spare on each side)

I think that the answer is that both Samsung and Best Buy have made a mistake on their webpages for the 46" 6900 model regarding width. I am not not talking a fraction of an inch, I am talking about 7 inches or more. It would appear that they put the measurements for the 55" 6900 in the schematic on the specifications page rather than the measurements for the 46" 6900 model.

Unless there are speaker ears on the 46" model, there is no way that the 6900 is 50 inches wide or 6 to 7 inches wider than other 46 " models.

It would be great if someone with a 46" 6900 could confirm the approximately 44" width that I expect before I go and order the set?
I'm still trying to find out if the benzle on the 6800 and 6900 are the same. Some have said it is different. Anybody have the 6800 and seen the 6900 at Best Buy to compare?

Australian site has the width in mm not inches, 1090.8mm translates to just under 43".

Thank you. I'm pretty sure that the width listed is in error. They may have stated the width of the 55" model.

Apparently, shoppers / owners are not still reading this thread. Bad for me because I have a purchasing question which I will, now, post on the C6500 site.

NO - you can't leave! I just got a 46" 6900 and a 55" 6900 - and I will have a lot of questions since this is my first HD tv

LOVE em so far and I do not even have the HD hooked up yet. I bought an OPPO BR Player and wow - unbelivable...and that was just playing a regular DVD, not even a blueray movie yet. (I do not see how it can be any better than what I saw)

So I am stressing about the whole calibration stuff. I never touched my old CRT tvs ever, now it seems with the LED(LCD) I will need to otherwise the picture will never be as good as it could be.

I saw some of you posted your settings - but I have questions and again, my apologies for any bad noob type questions...

I see the settings are all set under MOVIE. Why? Do you have other settings for the other categories or do you only do the calibration under one location?

Do you put a DVD in to tell the best color/while setting up the color? Meaning if I am watching a regualr station - they could be playing an old 80's movie - so I am sure that color will be lame no matter what.

Are the settings lost if I lose power, unplug?

Are there any inexpensive calibration tools out there - my wife will hang me if I try to tell her I need to buy a $500 - $1000 device to set the color after just buying these two TVs.

I did the suggested settings I saw here too and yes I was watching something last night after I set it up and the guy had red dots for eyes. I know nothing about color setup, so I put it all back to what it was. Mine is the 6900 (i think they are almost identical)
