Got the BD's yesterday & started watching the episodes for the 2nd time
I am amazed at the extras - rich, detailed background & history put on Disc 1, presumably to fill in the gaps covered in the 1st book. I haven't read the books so am only guessing that Martin provided that level of detail in the book. If so, it puts him on par or higher in creativity as Frank Herbert was in Dune in creating an entire world in his mind.
This series, IMO, will go down as HBO's best effort.
We are going to go thru all the discs before season 2 starts.
And I need to say this, Fox advertising how much they spent to create Terra Nova, for a compound, some road warrior-mobiles and a lot of CGI, is a joke compared to what it must have cost HBO for location filming, the elaborate sets, costumes, all the actors, extras, and scripting for this show. One has to think a lot of what Fox spent on TN was on Spielberg & hi-priced suits who couldn't pull of a believable, yet well-acted and written show.
What HBO has pulled off in these times of austerity budgets is truly outstanding & risky. I think it paid off
Great series and the reviews of the BD's are spot on - fantastic PQ & AQ with extras that actually do something for the story, unlike the usual ho-hum interviews, etc.
Watching ep 3 & more history background tonight.
