[quote='[KYA]Mega;19271596']I just successfully updated my Firmware.

Now Denon Remote App works!!! Yaay!

The Denon iPhone app is ok and works, but could be better. For instance, when create a new station on Pandora I thought that the iPhone (or iPad) keyboard would appear to facilitate the typing. In fact I didn’t find out how to type a new station on the iPhone app. Typing names in the remote control using the cursors is boring. The iPhone app could have this functionality to facilitate the typing. Maybe in the future…

A word of warning to potential firmware upgraders: though it retained my Audyssey settings, this firmware upgrade wiped out my Internet radio favorites.

Not a huge deal, but thought I'd warn others on case they had an extensive favorites list.

Did this firmware update enable airtunes?

It would be nice of these software folks at Denon to put out a flier ahead of time as to what these updates will do. This would give us time to maybe write down all our favorites or other things that may be lost during these updates. Lets be more proactive with the customer base.

I did the update to my 3311ci yesterday. It took about 1/2 hour to complete.
I have noticed that all the "browse" features on the internet radio are now gone.
Browse by country, city, types and the likes are all gone.
All that is left is search by keyword & recently played stations. I also lost all my favorites.
Anybody else with the same problem?
I'm wondering if something went wrong with my update.
I wish there was a way to roll back to the previous firmware.

I guess the 4311 has it, the 3311 doesn't... not even sure it is something I would use...

as glangford explained, "HDMI SACD" support means the receiver has SACD decoders built in. The 3311 does not, so the SACD player has to decode the SACD first and output it as PCM. The 4311 does, so the player can output the raw DSD and let the receiver decode.

unless you are a big-time audiophile with a large SACD library, consider this an irrelevant distinction.

The second questions is - does the 3311 have a detachable power cord?

yes it does, pretty much all CI-branded Denon receivers do. In general, trust the photos on the website over the spec list You can't make a typo in a photograph!

I am actually going back and forth between the 4311 and the 3311...

The 3311 seems to have everything I need though...

the primary benefits of the 4311 are (1) the ability to expand beyond 7.x channels, and (2) the state-of-the-art Audyssey room correction (MultEQ XT 32 + SubEQ HT for dual sub calibration).

there are of course many other smaller "audiophile" upgrades and extra connectivity befitting a higher-end unit: it is bigger, has a beefier amp section, DenonLink4 connection, multich analog inputs, SACD decoding, an extra HDMI input, etc.

but that's all minor stuff, it's primarily about going "beyond" 7.x channels. If you will never do more than a 7.x setup, and aren't a hyper-critical "audiophile", the 3311ci will do everything you need.
Fisrt time poster, but I read the forum a lot. I have the 3311ci, and I am looking for help with audio playback for Zone 2. I am getting a ms delay with the audio between Zone 1 and Zone 2 when I play the same source at the same time. My family room is Zone 1 and the rest of the house is Zone 2. Zone 1 seems to be a couple ms ahead of Zone 2 when playing music. I come out the analog output into an Rotel 2 ch amp then into a splitter for speakers in kitchen, patio, bedroom, etc. I have both hdmi and analog rca coming out of the sources going into the 3311 so I can run the Zone 2 through an external amp. Any thoughts on what to change, or settings to adjust would be a big help. I had the same set up with a Yamaha multi-zone AVR, used coax, optical, and analog rca, but had no delay between zones.
the delay is caused by the digital processing in Main Zone, which delays it relative to the simple analog-only pathway of Zone 2/3.

a good test is to engage "DIRECT" mode as the surround mode in Main Zone. This should eliminate the delay (since you have bypassed all extra digital processing), confirming what I said above.

try engaging "Game" for VIDEO MODE (see 70 of the manual) in the Input Setup. It explicitly claims in the manual that this can help eliminate delay between zones.
Thanks batpig for the help. I'll give it a try. Would it be worth it to try to go out of the surround channel for zone 2? My Rotel is a 50w per channel and my speaker selector is a Niles SPS-4 with four ourputs.
I would stick with Zone 2 since you get separate source / volume control. The only time I imagine it would be an issue is when playing whole-house music, so you can hear the other zones playing the same thing. In these situations, you could just put the receiver in "direct" mode for main zone.... or try that "Game Mode" trick first and see if it works.
I'm planning out a setup in my 18x13 living room

speakers: wall-mounted deftech mythos 5.1 configuration
driven by 3311

60/40 home theater/music

i understand the dual sw option is mirrored. If i added another sub what do i need to consider as far as placement of the two sub boxes and how will the audyssey calibration handle this?
The general advice for 2 subs as noted in the Audyssey Setup Guide ...

A. Place the subwoofers symmetrically within the room, if at all possible.

B. Place the subwoofers at identical distances from the primary listening position, if at all possible.
Is the Airplay update for the 3311 confirmed or just speculation? I have seen no official press on it. I want to purchase an HDMI receiver and the 4311 is overkill for me. The 3311 would be perfect if it gets airplay.

Also, is the built in Airplay functionality better than just feeding a signal from an Airport Express? If it's essentially the same then maybe that's the route to go since that's what I do now.
the benefits of AirPlay vs. using Airport Express to stream (AirTunes):

1) you don't need to purchase an extra piece of hardware (the AE)
2) because the AVR is receiving the stream directly, track info / album art should appear on screen via the GUI and you probably will be able to have some control (e.g. play/pause, FF/RW) through the receiver's remote
3) you can stream directly from other AirPlay devices like iPhones / iPads (e.g. if your friend comes over he can play music through your system wirelessly from his iPhone)
While I'm at it, can anyone discuss how the 3311 compares audio quality wise with a Sony STR-DA5000es? I really only need this to consolidate and streamline my HDMI inputs to the TV. I'm not big on surround sound and run a 2.1 system for tv. If it has a second zone I may use it to feed my outdoor speakers but I have a high quality integrated amp for that. I care more about sound quality for music than video.

Hi, does anyone know the biggest size of USB drive i can attach to Denon 3311 ? If i attach external hard drive, my receiver never recognizes it. It stays "connectint to network" forever. but when i attach 4GB USB flash drive it works fine.

Not sure what's going on, but I'm not getting any prompt to update. I've gone in to the menu, options, but I can't see any way to even see what version I have; never mind how to update.

Never mind. I didn't realize it scrolled down further.
I've had the 3311ci for about 3 weeks and it has been working normal until today. Now it is unable to connect to the internet and freezes trying to "please wait connecting." I am able to ping the Denon from a networked PC on the lan, but that's about it. Also I can't access the network connecting menu. I am familiar with the network card problem on the 3310ci, I'll be disappointed to see if if this is the case with the 3311ci? The other devices on my network are working fine. The cat5e cable connecting the Denon to my network tests normal. The router is set to use DHCP and Auto IP. Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem other than a bad network card? The firmware version is the version prior to the one released yesterday.

Confirmed. Guess you missed this post from a few days ago.

That would be 32MB based on FAT32 formatting or 4MB based on FAT16 formatting.

I lost my favorites, but the browse options are still there. Basically, mine looks like a new 3311. It did keep my Pandora login as well. Try a reset.

Edit: um yeah, what nguyenphananh said!
Stupid question I'm sure, but would the Denon remote app also work with the new Ipod touch? I assume so but since I'm flirting with the idea of getting one this app could push me to actually pick one up. Thus far I've been fairly anti-Ipod but they are just too hard to ignore nowadays.
Thanks

I have a 32GB loaded up and it works fine.

Hello,

I updated the AVR-3311 (European version) with the latest firmware and discovered something interesting;

New Audyssey MultEQ XT32 support?

If you look (ie Internet Explorer);
SETUP MENU | AUDIO/VIDEO ADJUST | AUDIO ADJUST | Audyssey Settings
There is now a reference to 'MultEQ XT 32'.

To my knowledge, and referencing the website http://www.audyssey.com/products/ only the AVR-4311 supports MultEQ XT 32 while the AVR-3311 supports MultEQ XT.

Typo from Denon or real MultEQ XT 32 support?

-edit-
TV Setup menu does not mention explicit the '32' within MultEQ XT only WEB setup menu does.

Good that you spotted that, did check it myself and it's indeed named MultEQ XT 32. Typo or upgrade? Have to wait for an answer from Denon i suppose.

Similar to my set up and uses. Music is more important. I stepped up to the 3311ci as that seems to be the breakpoint in the Denon lineup where the specs at least seem on paper to be more audiophile targeted. Lower THD and my favorite AL24+ processing. The AL24+ interpolates and converts every signal to 192khz/24 bit. According to the spec sheet it does so only for the FR/FL channels, which is perfect for my 2.0 set up. (I'm assuming the manual is wrong where it says it does this for all channels?) I have also come to appreciate the benefits of audyssey room correction in 2 channel music (thanks to Batpig, Soundofmind and Jdsmoothie). Audyssey just seems to take a bit of the edge off of things is the best way I can describe it. I can't compare it to the Sony, but I really like my current 3311ci.

It would be real nice if Denon would post. I don't even have an ethernet connection yet at my reciever, and don't plan on using the iphone app. So updating just for the iphone app is kind of pointless. On the other hand is there a bug fixed or some other functionality that I would be remiss in not updating? I'll never know I guess.

More importantly I'm assuming that in order for the next update to go smoothly I need to do this one? If I can skip an update, how will I know that I can? I assumed you have to do them in order so I updated. Went fine. It was a real pain in the ....Not having an ethernet connection at my reciever I brought home a long ethernet cable to hook to the router and run from the office bedroom to the living room reciever. ARGH, it wasn't long enough, I had to unhook the Denon and bring it into the office. Fortunately with a 2.0 setup the unhook/hook procedure isn't too terrible. One HDMI connection, one optical and two speakers and I'm done. After I was done, it hit me, darn, it would have been simplier to bring the cable modem into the living room....

Come on Denon, post updates to your web page.

Most modern AVR's of the level you're comparing have exc DSP and amplification. I agree completely with glangford's post above, Audyssey MultEQXT room EQ is the most important difference irt SQ between those 2 AVR's. And it is a crucial difference indeed. When my Sony failed and was replaced with a Denon it was the best thing that ever happened to my HT SQ-wise. With Audyssey's breakthrough technology measuring and compensating for the speakers and the room's acoustics, it was as though I'd replaced my speakers with ones costing twice as much, thus improving detail and tonal balance. Furthermore, the SQ when listening below reference with DynEQ is absolutely amazing.
