Well that stops the machine from trying to update itself. But a 4 minute firmware still exists and we try to do the update is still fails.

I noticed that there was something about ISP's that were too slow (too many hops) and you would get a connection fail. Which isn't the message i am getting but maybe it's the same thing.

I have tried at least 20 times to do this last part of the update and it doesn't look like it's going to go until I fix what's causing this.

Does anybody know the IP or address that the update uses so I can see how many hops my ISP has to the site?

Also, can anyone confirm that this firmware update works (I don't know how recent this update is; nor can I find where to get the version that I have on the machine currently)

Have you tried reseting your modem and router? Just unplug them both for 30 seconds I have had problems in the past with firmware updates and when I reset my modem and router it seem to work. Just an idea to try

I am still searching, but my denon 3311ci stays in stereo mode when I have my ps3 connected...any ideas how to change?
Are you playing a CD or other 2 channel source? If not, press the STANDARD key on your remote.

I was playing blue ray disc. Had to make some changes withing the ps3...think it was multiq, but after I made those changes all was well and played in 7.1 fine. I will have to get back into the ps3 and find out exactly what it was.

I was also on dvd for my source.

With AUTO SURROUND mode set to ON (default), the Denon will remember whatever setting you have for a particular input audio source and will change to that mode again when it detects that same audio source. You do of course have to have the correct settings in the PS3 as well.

Ah yes I do have auto surround on...remember seeing that.

On another note mine updated just fine...everything working excellent. Much better clarity and power coming out of this than the receiver I was borrowing from a friend.

Excellent! Now go enjoy!

I've got to chime in here and say that I just put a 3311 into my system this weekend. This is my first Denon AVR, and I am very impressed with it so far. I am using it in combination with the AVP-602ci. I was coming from a Pioneer Elite SC-27, and before that a UMC-1. I really like the way Audyssey makes my room sound, even better than MCACC, which I thought did a great job. The internet connectivity is fun, and just worked for me. I'm still getting used to all the settings, and really have to go through every menu option to find what I want - just need to get familiar with it. The Denon app for the iPhone/iPad is cool to. Thanks for listening.

I'm noticing a slight decrease in picture quality when I use my 3311 to do video switching.

I first had my mac mini connected directly to my TV, and it looked great. When I connected it through the 3311, it looked slightly washed out, or lower color depth or something.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
There are some video adjustment settings that you can tinker with, however, your best bet might be to just turn the i/p Scaler to OFF and simply pass the video through to the TV as some folks do. Obviously use whichever configuration provides the best picture quality to you with your particular TV.

I guess it has been too many years between stereo systems for me. I tried the search, but could not find the anything specific or was searching the wrong keywords.

I have two many remotes and was trying to get the Denon remote to control the Samsung TV and the Sony Blu-ray. I guess I’m not following the directions correctly. I thought I followed the directions correctly but no results. One of the last steps is to input the preset code. There is a default code, but it says to input the code with keypad, that does not appear to work and even if it did, I have no idea where to get the Samsung and Sony remote codes. Any help?
Another interesting thing when I turn on the blu-ray player (which is connected through Denon) the TV automatically detects and switches to the code via something called anytime. That is fine, however I have to have the blu-ray player on to see the denon menus on the TV. If I turn off the blu-ray player, TV switches back to cable. It is like it has no idea the Denon is in the loop. Manually selecting the HDMI input results in no signal when blu-ray is off.

The Audyssey setup was fairly straight forward although it fails if there is any anboint noise at all. Ceiling fan or AC kills it.

Any help would be appreciated.

The new XX11 model remotes have the remote codes stored in the remote so if the ones for your particular component don't work, your next best option is to get one of the Harmony remotes.

Samsung's version of HDMI-CEC is Anynet+. Set it to OFF on the Sammy and the Denon won't switch to the TV input.

Which is why your Owner's manual says to turn them off before running AUTO SETUP.

So, once the denon remote zone leds blink, it should work or is there something else. The instructions in the manual and what is displayed from the unit differ just a tad. I assume i am pushing the correct two buttons at the same time. The main power button (red) and the zone on (red center white outer) button.

Thanks

It means it should be "registered" but apparently may not work with your particular device as others have noted as well.

For some reason I get the feeling I'm doing something wrong. Does not work with the Samsung TV either. You would think it would work with a very popular device.

Just remember to turn the AC back on before you watch a movie I had AC and fans off....even made the girlfriend walk outside cause she kept moving and made noises. If you have a GF make sure you let them back in your house as well

Just got my 3311CI over the weekend. I just have one quick question.

Can the 3311CI firmware be updated over USB or something like that? Or does it have to be connected to the internet? I don't have a wired internet connection around the TV area so it would be difficult for me to run new wires there.

If it can be upgraded via USB, where can I go to download? I can't seem to find any links on the Denon sebsite.

Thanks.
No, firmware upgrades are internet-only.

Although Denon is currently working on another form of firmware updating, at present, as bp notes, it's internet only for the network models.

For those that do not have a hard wired net connection available, this Buffalo device looks to be an interesting device. IF you have a wifi router for your computer system....or get one if you dont. It picks up the wifi signal and then it has 4 ports on the back to plug a short ethernet cable into, then to your AVR device. So its essentially a wireless extension of your wifi with ports for wired access. Set it in your cabinet and use a short ethernet cable.

Thanks for the info guys. I thought I was missing something because I couldn't find any wireless information anywhere. Now I understand why. Maybe I'll just run a temporary really, really long ethernet cable just for the update.

If the receiver needs an update, will it tell me right away as soon as I plug in the ethernet and turn it on? Or do I need to leave it on overnight?

By the way, great forum you guys have here. Very active and lots of great info. I wish I had found you guys earlier. You guys know more about Denon than the sales people and the Denon people.

I tried using a wi-fi (N) connection, it didn't work. After doing some research, I found out that Denon does NOT recommend using a wi-fi connection:

"Denon does not recommend using Wi-Fi network connectivity when updating/upgrading the components. This is due the higher possibility of errors in the update/upgrade process from decreased, and/or drop outs of Wi-Fi signals as well as interruption from other nearby Wi-Fi, or other radio Frequency generating devices"

If you are "manually" entering the code you see displayed in the window and it's not working when registered then go on to the next code and manually enter it as well, going through all the available codes. If none of them work, then, like I said, you'll need to get a Harmony or other universal remote.

If you have Update Notification (p. 85) set to ON (factory default) a message should pop up immediately when you connect to the internet if there is an available update. See also Firmware Update (p. 89) for more information on Check For Update.

Thanks,
When you say "manually", do you mean going down the list and selecting the manufacture? If I do that its shows a code but will not let me overwrite it or I'm not doing it right. For Sony for example, I move down the S and there is a list, but only one Sony entry with a default code and I'm not able to modify it. Oh gee, am i supose to enter the number displayed from the AVR on the remote that is displayed.. I thought that was already in the remote ikes..

Is there an automatic way?

Thanks
Aha! Light bulb moment ... yes, AFAIK you do indeed have to enter that code "manually" as it is only "displayed" in the window. Just as with other remotes (eg. your TV remote), you must "manually" enter that 4 digit code first. Sorry, no automatic way that I know of.

That was it, I'm a doofus. Sony was the first code and the Samsung was the last code in their Samsung list.
thanks for the help
