No HDMI. No multichannel audio. Period

I plan to buy the 3311CI. I would like to connect my computer's coax digital out to the 3311CI and be able to play music in zone 2. Am I correct in assuming that my PC's output (when playing MP3s from itunes) will be 2.0 PCM???

I will also want 5.1 from my computer for the main zone, and it'd be nice to have it all happen with 1 cable.

Also in your 3311 you have the new Audyssey-developed DSX options, so you can enhance the envelopment surround effect with front wides.

I agree. I was having buyers remorse after getting the 4308ci. Only after buying the audessey add on was I impressed and achieved the sound I was looking for. I recommend getting the add on if you don't already have it.

Good to know! I just ordered a 3311 myself from Electronics Expo and am also moving up from the 1910. I was happy with my 1910, but wanted the pre-amp outs, network capability, on-screen gui/overlays, multieqXT, extra hdmi and sw outs, and better amp section. The 3D wasn't all that important, since I'm not planning to upgrade any time soon. For the price point and feature set, I'm convinced, you're not going to do better than the 3311 right now.

I also looked at the Denon 4311, Pioneer 1120, and SC-35 and SC-37 as well. I probably would have bought a 4310, if I could have found one at a decent price, but all the BB's near me were sold out, and everywhere else still wants a premium for them. The 1120 is a good deal for the money, but I was less than moved by the internal amp section based on bench tests I've seen. Especially, considering I have a relatively large media room (20' x 18'). I also am partial to Audyssey over MCACC. I really like the Pioneer models for music, but I was less impressed overall with multi-channel movie listening. The ICE amps in the SC series are wonderful, but even the SC-35 would have cost me about $400 more than what I could get the 3311 for. Had I liked MCACC as much as Audyssey overall, I probably would have dropped the extra coin, but I can always add an external amp down the road, should I want one. Truthfully, it probably won't be necessary unless I upgrade speakers and end up with something harder to drive.

Well I just ordered this from 6th ave (about 25% off now). Sounds like it will be nice upgrade from my older 804 Onkyo.

*sigh* It's been over a week now since I sent my receiver in. Man it REALLY sucks being relegated to bunny ear speakers on my beautiful 60 inch plasma

Will the quality of sound be any different going FROM a avr-1910 to a avr-3311ci? I notice the 3311ci has 125 watts per channel compared to the 90 watts per channel the 1910 has.

This is the 3rd time you've asked this same question in this thread in the past few days as well as asking the same question in the 1910 thread. You've gotten several positive responses in both threads. Asking the same question again isn't going to change the answers.

New AVR 3311, the analog input (like NET/USB, Pandora, iPod, or Component inputs) are not displaying through HDMI out and they are displaying only on the component monitor out. However all HDMI inputs are outputing to HDMI and Analog inputs (like NET/USB, iPod, or Component inputs) are outputing on the component monitor out ONLY. I also tried microprocessor reset and it is not helping. Infact the microprocessor reset is not reset to the factory default; whatever input assignment that I did is not changing after the microprocessor reset.

I also tried removing all the input and output cables to the receiver, power cycled, did microprocessor reset, then connected HDMI cable to my TV and selected NET/USB, still I don't get display on the screen. If I connect Component Monitor out to my TV, it displaying.

Any clues for displaying analog input upscaled and displayed through HDMI?

Thanks
Aswin

I'll preface this by saying I'm new to both the AVR-3311 and Harmony 900. I finally updated from my B&K Reference 30 pre and Pronto remote, and so far I'm pretty impressed with the new setup.

I've contacted Logitech and downloaded (I think) Batpig's harmony commands. The list looks comprehensive, but I have one question. I don't see a control to select a specific zone. That makes some sense to me, since "Zone Select" steps through the available zones, and seems to remember the last zone used, even after a power cycle.

What I'd like to be able to do is power on the specific zone(s) needed for a given activity from a central remote. Outside only for one activity, bedroom only for another, main only for others. I'm hoping I'm missing something simple, but guessing there just isn't a way to do what I want. The only thing that gives me any hope is that when I configure a new 3311 in the Harmony software it offers me the option of using for room 1, 2 or both. Oddly it doesn't have 3 "rooms", but it makes me think there's a way to discretely select a "room".

Hello,

My setup:
Sony s570 BD Player
Panasonic AE3000U Projector
Denon 3311CI
Decent HDMI cables. 1.4a certified except one that I bought from Bluejeanscable.com a while back (but I thought their cables were so well made it would work ok).

When playing BD's no problems at all. But when showing Bluray player menu or streaming a movie (netflix) I get a huge amount of distortion including snow, flashing screen, period blank screen...using "Monitor 1".

Now, the interesting thing is, using exactly the same cables but use Monitor 2 while I do see the occasional thin line flash on the screen the issue is mostly resolved.

If I go directly from the BD player to the projector no problems at all so I'm pretty certain the problem is with the receiver (using the same cables).

Anyone got any ideas on what the problem might be? Have I just been unlucky and receiver a defective device?

Thanks in advance

David

Try replacing the cables first (forget about rating as there's no difference between HDMI 1.3 and HDMI 1.4 cables .. they're just cables). Folks often think that just because the cable works when connected straight to the TV it's the AVR's fault, which isn't always the case as numerous posters have found out when replacing the cable resolved the issue.

Have you confirmed that is set to ON, is set to "Analog and HDMI" (p. 70)? You also may want to try forcing the setting for both analog and HDMI to "1080i" vice "Auto."

When you reset the microprocessor (p. 116) did you let the front panel display flash for about 3-4 seconds before releasing the buttons? If you have correctly done this and the AVR is not returning to factory defaults, you may have a defective unit.

Update on Network repair:

Luckily, I have a Denon authorized repair center here locally, so I brought my 3311 in last Monday. I got a call from them on Friday telling me that the HDMI module that also has the networking support was on back order from Denon for at least 4 weeks. That was the bad news but the good news I guess is that he also said that Denon had come up with a fix for this issue that would only involve reprogramming the module. Not sure if it's a new firmware or what but he thought it would take 7 to 10 days to get the reprogrammed module back. Guess all I can do is just wait and see if this really fixes the networking problem. I'll post again once I get te unit back.

You may want to call Denon about that. I was told that using coax from a computer is not stable and not recommended by Denon. They recommend only using HDMI. Has ayone else heard this?

Never heard that before. I always thought coax was a good choice. I prefer it over optical.

The difference in wattage between the two will make a slight difference, depending on the speakers, but i'm guessing the bigger difference will come from the DSX/multieqXT. Some speakers come to life with additional wattage, but it's more than likely the change will be subtle. Personally, I'm looking forward to trying out some wides based on the reviews I've seen here.

i know that price talk is forbidden, but I hope this question is ok: Amazon is selling the 3311 for $1200. Are there authorized dealers selling for significantly lower $$s?

I would very much appreciate a private msg from anyone that has bought a 3311 recently for significantly less than $1200 telling me where bought and name of salesperson (if possible.

If the above are bad questions, sorry about that.

Best

Movieslover,

I will send you a PM but just to let
you know, I got my hand slapped
here recently for posting a price.
I hope you fare better.

I would hope so! Search this thread for "price". Also, call/livechat EE, 6th av, J&R and say you heard on AVS that they have a deep discount and ask for their best price. Oh, the AVS store may be selling them, so check there too.

Your buddy batpig would have told you that several of the authorized on-line vendors sell well below MSRP (Electronics Expo, 6Ave, J&R, etc.). Call them for their best price. Also check this post for a sale at EE.

thanks for the quick responses guys.

BTW, thanks for mentioning JandR.

They are one of my favorites.

They will absolutely bargain with you on price.
Call them. It helps if you have done a bit of
research and have a price in front of you from
a competing authorized dealer. You may be
amazed that in the end you will save a few
hundred $$$. Don't be afraid to ask them if
they would be considering to go as low as the
amount you have in mind. I lowballed them
on a Sony camcorder selling $300 under their
advertised price and they matched it only
because Amazon was selling it at that price.
I don't hear them mentioned much but I bought mine from World Wide Stereo http://www.wwstereo.com/ . Very happy with their service and they are authorized Denon dealers.

I am still extremely happy with my 3311 too! I also added one of those smart plug strips to turn on the Antec component cooler which works great. I was also running short on ethernet connections so I bought this Netgear 5 port Home theater hub :

http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-5-port...5300248&sr=8-2

Added a Sony BluRay megachanger to the mix too. Lol, I have to stop spending!
AFAIK, WWS doesn't discount on a regular basis as much as the other resellers, rather preferring to do it during sales only. Also, although not a new authorized reseller, they are a new "on-line" reseller so still coming into their own as far as being used more regularly for on-line sales..
Ronald do you think they will match a price I have from another store or will they actually beat it? I don't really feel like shopping around if they aren't going to better what I already have.

Rick

Wow, this is somewhat unnerving news to me. They received my network fubar'd unit on wednesday last week. By friday it wasn't even in the system yet, and the guy told me to call back on monday (today) to see about an update on the status. So obviously I did just that, but it appears to me that they had the day off for MLK day. Which he probaby forgot was today when we last spoke.

But if that part really is on backorder for at least 4 weeks that kinda pisses me off. However when I spoke to him he also said that if the parts are on backorder and it will be longer than a month, then denon will issue you a replacement unit INSTEAD of making you wait for a month. Whether they follow through with that or not I guess we shall see. Sounds like one of those things that they say cuz they don't expect it to ever happen.
All I can say about price is that if you google around and find both the EE and 6ave coupons for the 3311, you'll find that 6ave's price is a bit cheaper than EE's. 6ave has free shipping. My 3311 was ordered on Friday and will be here Thursday in Los Angeles.
