The **Official** Denon 3311CI/ 991 Owner's Thread NO PRICE TALK - Page 264

What audio over DLNA does the 991 support? I can't get any 5.1 audio only over DLNA such as DTS, 5.1 FLAC or m4a.
Supported formats are noted on p. 31 of your Owner's manual.
P31 doesn't note whether or not it can play multichannel, does it support this?
no multichannel, it's basically for 2ch music streaming
post #7895 of 10228
My understanding is the AVR will accept bitstream 2CH and decoded multi channel by the media server.

Decoded and sent as what?

Yeah, already tried that and couldn't get anything other than 2.0. So Batpig is right, thanks for the quick responses both of you.

Send a PM to "rollerotr" as I believe he was able to get 5.1 PCM to work with his media server.

My understanding of comp. files and or bitstreams are limited. My western digital media player out sources 5.1. to my 991 avr and my laptop can out source 5.1 to the WD and then from there out to the avr. I hope this helps.
yeah, that restriction isn't an issue for many other DLNA media streamers, e.g. the PS3 or WDTV. If you have that external device that supports multich audio over DLNA doing the networking then it's no issue, it's simply outputting a normal audio stream to the AVR just like a DVD player.

the problem is when trying to use the BUILT IN functionality of the AVR... in which case the DLNA stuff is essentially limited to basic 2ch audio streaming.

The button beside pure mode on your remote will be multi ch srereo if not on multi ch stereo cycle through till it says multi ch stereo. A lot of posters have stated they like this mode for music.

Suggest you reset the microprocessor (p. 109) and start AUTO SETUP again to ensure it runs correctly and to completion. Run all 8 mic positions. For the HDMI Control issue ... turn HDMI-CEC (VieraLink) on your TV to OFF.
I turned off Viera link and still can't get the pass through to work. What settings should the AVR be set to?

Currently, I have it set to HDMI audio out set to AMP, HDMI control to ON, standby source set to HDMI2 (what my TIVO is hooked into) and POWER off control set to OFF. I think I've tried going through and changing all of these to no avail.

Those are the settings I have and the pass through works just fine. Make sure that hdmi 2 is the correct port you are using for your Tivo. Toggle your Viera link on and off a couple times and see if that helps.

I just got this player and most of the members in that forum seem pretty certain that I should be able to get 7.1 to bitstream to my 3311 AVR. I have a 6.1 system and it's always worked well with my ps3, but I just noticed I'm not getting 6.1 to my speakers even with the ps3. Am I just missing a simple setting or do I need to run Audyssey over again?
Did you set AMP ASSIGN to "Normal" prior to running AUTO SETUP? Also check the "S.Back" setting (p. 74).
I'm pretty sure about the Amp assign, but it's been awhile. On Audio Adjust, I only get Tone, Audyssey, Restorer, and Audio delay. No Surround parameter. Maybe I should just run Audyssey again.

I can't seem to get the remote to change to main zone. It is stuck on zone 3, and the remote buttons don't work. I only use the main zone. I followed the instructions on page 116 for a reset and that doesn't seem to work either. I've used it in the past succesfully.

I hope I don't have another hardware problem. I was one of the unlucky ones that had to have the ethernet card replaced.
Are you pressing the AMP button first? Did you try resetting the remote itself (p. 98)?
Yes, I'm aware that you have to press Amp first, so I was doing that. I've tried both methods of resettting the AVR, but it doesn't do anything. When I take my finger off the two buttons, the AVR simply shuts off. I've tried it numerous times.

I went to page 98, but couldn't find the Advanced setup button on the remote. I'm using the 1146 remote. I found the 1148 in my box and tried that. I was able to get it to the main zone, but other than that it doesn't do much. There's not even a power button on that remote.

I'm beginning to think I have a hardware problem again. Very frustrating, but I'm still hoping that maybe I'm missing something. The fact that it won't reset sounds ominous though.

Does Denon have any kind of trade in program? I'd be happy to replace it with a newer model if I can get it at a discount.

Unfortunately, they don't. I've just gone through my third unit that needs to be replaced. Last year it was in the shop for 17 weeks total. As I told Denon, this has been the single most aggravating possession in my entire life. Anything with this network card design seems vulnerable, be it the 3310 or the 3311 - both are seriously flawed.

I understand that any company can have a bad product, but when they don't take responsibility and do something for the customers that are being inconvenienced, then they will lose my business for good and anyone I talk to. I'll call them myself on Monday and see what they say. I spent another 2 hours trying all the fixes suggested here, and it doesn't produce any sound at all no matter what I try.

Have you decided what to replace it with?

It depends on what is available. The repair facility is supposed to offer a refurbished unit if available and the repairs are expected to take > 30 days. Due to the backorder of NIC boards earlier in the year for the 3310CI, Denon authorized replacements when held > 14 days. In some instances 3310CI Owner's were provided 3311CI units. Of course their goal is to repair rather than replace. Discuss this with the repair facility and see if they have a replacement option for you.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

First question of many I am sure. Just started hooking everything up. I have 2 front speakers and a center channel hooked up. I tried Internet radio and it works but.... I need to turn the volume pretty to about -62db to really he music. Seems pretty high. Something does no seem right.

I did not Try any other sources yet
totally normal, modern digital volume controls aren't like the "old days" where turning the volume knob 1/3 of the way up was blasting. Normally you will be within 10-30dB of "reference" (reference is "0" when volume is set to relative and "81" when volume is set to absolute).

In NET/USB mode, is the 3311ci supposed to be able to display information on the screen? I have a 55LW6500 and nothing shows up on the screen. Pressing "menu" on the remote would not bring anything up either.

Meanwhile, 3311ci can play music from my DLNA just fine...

Thanks...

^^
Yes it is. Check the GUI (NET/USB) setting (p. 87) didn't get set to OFF.

If they offered to buy me out, I'd go with something with the same network facilities in which there is an alternative way to perform a firmware update. I was surprised when that flaw wasn't corrected in the 3311 and apparently the same is true with the 3312.

At the moment, I've been waiting for a week for the Support Manager to return a call. He's "always in a meeting" according to the three people who guaranteed me a response. Just like the other 3 times.
