Not sure why your response has been so different from the others here. Since this is my first Denon product I don't have long experience in dealing with their CS, but so far I have had nothing but cooperative support.

You could try opening a new ticket, or you could call D&M Holding at 201-762-6500 and, if the response is not favorable, ask for a CS supervisor.

Thats the plan.

Oh and BTW I never used the word unfair, that was the CS reps wording. I just pointed out the inconsistency in their policy and thought that it may disappoint some owners to see features given away with one hand and sold with the other.

Quick question - does the 3311 perform video processing on video signals that are input via HDMI at 1080p, or does it simply pass through what is input as long as it comes in at 1080p?

I am asking because I am considering an Oppo BDP 93. From what I read, its video processing abilities are superior to the 3311, and therefore I would not want to "reprocess" the signal in the 3311. However, I would prefer to switch it via the 3311 rather than directly into the TV as long as it is simply being passed through.

Thanks.

Well, I heard back from CS and the rep had brought my( our) situation up to his supervisor who okayed the upgrade. This is very good news, and I'll be performing the update once I get home and send the required info.

As I said, all communication was very cordial and in the end resolved to my satisfaction ( assuming the upgrade works). Denon has stepped up to the plate and acted professionally in this matter. This will definitely play into my future AV purchases. Kudos to Denon for this!

You can always set the setting to OFF, which is set per source.

I think I'll give the rep one more chance to respond to my latest comments. The next step will be opening another ticket with another rep, and then getting on the phone.

If anyone has gotten an actual e-mail from a rep that allowed the upgrade, would you mind sending a PM with their name/address. Maybe I can contact that rep directly and expedite matters. thanks.

Ratmice, I noted the CSR's name who gave me my free upgrade in my post from a few days ago. Following is the email reply from the CSR, Michael Calamari:

Just wanted to say that I also contacted Denon via their website and they graciously gave me the Airplay upgrade for free. The upgrade process went smoothly. I haven't had a chance to check out airplay yet.

Also, I can't resist saying how much of an improvement this receiver has made. I'm not sure if it's the receiver itself, the MultEQ XT, Audyssey Dynamic EQ or Denon's Cinema EQ mode (probably a bit of all of them) but my modest Polk RTi setup driven by an Emotiva LPA-1 has been taken to a new level. The speakers' brightness has been quelled nicely, the soundstage is very wide, and the bass is much tighter and less boomy. I had been planning on upgrading to some nicer speakers but with all these Denon bells and whistles I'm just not sure it's worth it right now.

Cheers,
NM

Did they contact you and send you the activation number today (Saturday)?
They responded to me saying they would honor the free upgrade yesterday and I sent them back the info early this morning but I haven't heard back from them. I was thinking that they were closed today, but then I saw your response and now I'm not so sure.

You'll get it on Monday.

I have also sent a request to Denon - will likely hear back next week. Will update with the result to my request for them to honor the free airplay upgrade for my Denon 991.

Below is a link of a video of the issues I'm having.

Issue has returned, guessing its going to have to go in for repair.

Maybe overheating, do you have ventilation o something in the closet.
There is an a/c vent in the closet, closet size is 8x12x10, width, depth, height. There is 4ft open above the avr, and 6" clearance behind it, and open on the sides.

Guessing it's an hdmi board issue.

Have you tried doing the upgrade on your AVR? It's possible they already activated the update for you.

Have you tried connecting your avr straight from your original cable thus eliminating the wall jack. Other posters haven't had luck with adding another cable in the mix.
My 50ft in wall cable is not long enough to reach the tv and avr. So I guess i'll try a longer hdmi cable that can reach from the tv to avr? Just worried about a run longer then 50ft.

Can you move (for testing purposes) either your tv or avr to test your 50ft cable without the extra jack to confirm that it works with the existing cable.

You can also try unplugging your avr and tv. Then unplug all hdmi cables from tv to avr. Let sit for 10 min. Attach your cables then power on tv then avr.

My 991 does not respond to the Menu button unless I press the "Seclect Source" button first. Is this a problem? I got this as demo from FS. Thanks.
^^
Yes, although normally you must press the "AMP" button prior to the "MENU" button so the remote knows you're referring to the amp's settings vice another device the remote might also be controlling.

So this means that before pressing the Menu button we have to press the AMP button first? Sorry, no manuals came with the 991. Thanks.

Correct. Note also you can download any Denon AVR model's Owner's manual from Denon's Downloads website.

Also, as a general rule of thumb ... it's a good idea to "reset the microprocessor" (p. 109) before setting up any "open box" or otherwise used AVR to ensure that all settings are restored to their original mfr default setting.

Did you at least get the Audyssey DM-A409 mic to use with the AUTO SETUP?

Thank you very much. I got the mic, remote control, ipod cable, antena with the receiver.

And thank you for the link. I just downloaded the manual.

Re-routed the 50ft hdmi cable hooked everything up and all is good now. Thanks for all the help. Now just have to rework the wall plates and clean everything up.

I just purchased an open box 3311 and I can't get the auto-calibration to start. I performed a microprocessor reset. Just connecting the mic doesn't trigger the autocal. If I go into the menu and choose autocal and then adjust the volume dial I get the Audyssey menu but that's as far as I can get. The Amp Assign option is highlighted in yellow while the Auto Setup Start is grayed out. At this point I should be able to use the arrow keys to choose options but then nothing happens. It just stays frozen on the initial autocal screen.

Everything else seems functional and I can perform the manual audio setup with no issues.

Try doing a "network reset" after unplugging the AVR for about 10 minutes. Press/hold the UP/DOWN arrown buttons under the front panel while powering on the AVR. Release after about 4-5 seconds. If still no joy, return the AVR.
I am toying with the idea of integrating a video processor into my stack.

Eg:

Sources --> Video Processor --> Display
..............................................|--> AVR --> Speakers

However, in doing this I realize that I lose the GUI for pandora etc. is there any way of turning off all the processing on the avr that won't render the VP less effective if I put the avr in front it. Or can I simply connect the video out of the avr to the processor and treat it like another input?
The AVRs video processing can be turned off by setting each source's "i/p Scaler" setting to OFF, while leaving the "Video Convert" setting to ON for the GUI.

Thanks JDS

I tried the network reset as well and it's still a no go. I guess I'll be returning the unit.
