Well ive had this reciever for a month or so and i really like it but i have a couple question hopefully i can get help with>.I ran audyssey when i first got the amp using 6 positions. I was goin through the onscreen options tonite and found the parameter information for audyssey and it had my system configured pretty weird, front are set to large and 40hz ,center 60 hz my lfe is down -6 etc. It seems the only way to correct this is changing the settings in manual, but then i would have to choose audyssey manual when pressing multieq button on the remote . Also i cant seem to find a way to boost the lfe.
i used a tripod and the room was quiet, ie no furnace etc.

all comments welcome good or bad lol

Go into speaker config and set Front to Small.
Bass Settings; Sw Mode LFE LPF for LFE to 120
Crossover Frequency set crossover to 80Hz

You might want to read through the Audyssey section of my FAQ as you have a few misconceptions: http://batpigworld.com/fadq.html#audyssey

None of the settings you got are "weird" and you don't have to choose manual eq to make speaker setting tweaks in the area.

You would be well served also reviewing the Audyssey Setup Guide linked in my sig.
JD - I have read through that guide and everything on batpigs site as well as some links he has provided. what i really wanted to know is if i change settings under "manual" , do i have to set audyssey eq to manual to use my new settings. I reran setup last night and it got the speaker size right but the crossover frequencies are messed up.i also re adjusted my sub volume to be sure audyssey was able to correctly calibrate ,the original setting by audyssey as -12 which was its limit.

I guess i worded it wrong. after i have made changes in manual setup does audyssey automatically implement them or is using multieg manual required.

As long as Audyssey or Flat are selected, your using Audyssey's auto EQ. You can change your crossovers, speaker size, etc at will and the Audyssey auto EQ is automatically still being used. Using the manual EQ as you think you need to use actually is what turns off Audyssey.

Any changes to crossover or LARGE/SMALL setting has no impact on the Audyssey filters.

Great stuff , thanks guys. i did some re-reading of your links and some more messing with the actual reciever and it is now quite clear. Either i am losing my comprehension ability or that manual is really bad. TA

I'm going to hook a hard drive up to my 991 so I have easier access to my cd's. I need to go the cheapest route for now but I would also like to be able to copy my DVD-Audio discs in surround to the hard drive as well. I'm having trouble getting ripped 6 channel FLAC files to play correctly. They either play in stereo or skip. Any suggestions?
^^
AFAIK, bitstreamed files will be downmixed to stereo while multi channel PCM files will play all channels.

Hey guys,
I just plugged in my 3311 for the first time and i'm doing my first update. It all fine started displaying 28min to finish, but now it seems to be stock alternating between 4-6 minutes left. It has been about 50 min now. And also, from the moment it started doing the update the connection to the tv via HDMI was lost, tv is displaying "no signal on the HDMI input" is this normal?

Edit:
Finally after almost 2 hours the updated was successful.

Welcome to the forum. Way to hang in there. Next step is to set up audyssey. If you need help on setting up Audyssey check out BatPig world on the bottom of the page in any of his post or jdsmoothie audyssey link on the bottom of the page in any of his post.

You can also check out the official avs Denon 12 series forum and check out page 1 for tips and troubleshooting as the 3311 is nearly identical to the 3312 .

Gang,

I just have to start off by thanking everyone for their contributions to this thread. I have found a wealth of information here that has surely aided me in my purchasing decisions! Batpig, your knowledge astounds me and your FAQ/Denon ENGLISH manual rock!

I believe I have settled on the avr-3311ci. I am in a small family room (about 14x14x9) with pergo floors. One side of the room opens up to my kitchen/dinette area (about 3/4 of the wall is missing). I do have a half wall height island with a small fish tank on it that's movable. It doesn't move much though. I am thinking of using the receiver for a 5.1 setup in the family room, and then using the additional channels for another room in a multi-zone configuration. I am set on buying the avr-3311ci because of its networking features, the pre-amp abilities, multi-zone, etc. I want to be as future-proof as possible. I won't go much further because this post is mostly about speakers to match to it (unless from that someone wants to step in!).

After the receiver, I am looking to spend about $2500 total (so another $1600 or so on the speakers - slightly flexible, but not by much). I am in to some music that has heavier bass, but I listen to music across the genres. However, mostly rock and rap. I also watch blueray movies quite often on my 50" Panny Plasma (no ARC unfortunately). I'd say it's about 60/40. Since this is my first HT setup, I am looking for direction on speakers. I am in S.E. lower Michigan, so if there are any good spots to listen to some, advice there would also be appreciated. According to Batpig, double the receiver cost is a good place to start with speakers, hence why I am near the $2500 total mark.

I want to thank you all, in advance, for your suggestions and assistance. If I missed anything in this insanely long thread, I apologize ahead of time!

Welcome to AVS forum. As you've settled on your AVR, and may get some recommendations here, you would be better served posting your question and budget amount in the "Speakers" forum.

Done. Thanks for the advice!

Denon has now updated the Airplay Upgrade webpage to show that the upgrade for the 3311CI and 991 are FREE just by providing the required information. No more emails requesting it for free are required.

I sent an email about 3 days ago and they just provided me with the free upgrade

On another note, my #1 HDMI output (ARC) seems to have stopped working. The #2 works fine but when I use number 1,nothing. It was working fine for a moment and then it stopped working. Any suggestions? I try two different HDMI cables with the same results.

Do a soft reset by unplugging the unit for 10 minutes. If no joy, try cycling HDMI Control "ON/OFF" as well as cycling the HDMI Monitor Out setting "Monitor1/Monitor2". If still no joy, then SAVE the config file to a PC (if you haven't already, p. 59) and reset the microprocessor (p. 116).

Thanks JDS I will try that and report back.

Is there a way to find out why a post was deleted?

That's a good question. I know you can enter a reason when deleting a post, but I don't know if just anyone can go and see the reason for a deleted post. I suspect this is the post you are referring to: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=8870

Hi Jds,

i followed your suggested steps and it started working again after i went into the hdmi setting and switched it to "Monitor1" but as soon as i hit back or "return" to the setting menu i lost the connection to Monitor2, so i had to turn the unit off and and swap the hdmi cable to Monitor1. Is this how it supposed to work? it makes sense that it would work that way, but i thought the unit will automatically determine which port to output the signal.

Also, When i go to flikr and pandora i get a Denon black screen. It connects but i does not display on my tv. It worked fine the first time i went to pandora and logged in to my account.

Thanks for the info. Mine is installing now. Denon doing this makes me a definite repeat customer of theirs!

Update: Install went fine. This screenshot shows what you get when clicking the Airplay drop down at the lower right of the iTunes application.

Unlike the replacement 3312CI, there is no "BOTH" setting so you must manually select either Monitor 1 or Monitor 2. If you didn't make it as far as the microprocessor reset ... then do it.

ok, i will try that. thanks.

I just recently came across the first problem with my AVR.

THe DVR HDMI input is not working properly. I tried everything including a microprocessor reset. However, it is still not working.

I have tried two devices in that HDMI input slot and have had no luck. I am worried this is now a hardware issue.

I do have a warranty with Consumer Priority Services. However, I would like to make sure that is not something I've overlooked before I go ahead with this nightmare!

If you could give more details like what exactly happens when you plug in your sources. Do you see a Denon logo? Or does it Flicker ect.. Do any other inputs have issues?

Initially, it would just flicker to green and then off to a screen with just static after a few minutes.

Then, I did a microprocessor reset which resulted in the port not working at all. The DENON log just appears right now when I switch to the DVR input.

Is there anything else I could provide. I am happy to test any suggestions.
