(posted here as this is a Blu-ray player focused topic)
Just upgraded screen and player to Samsung 50" plasma and C6500 Blu-ray. I choose this player thinking I would replace my Roku box, which has seen a lot of use in two years. I was previously using a first gen Sharp LCD so had full 720P (component of course!) from the Roku.
Will I really ditch the Roku?
NO! The picture quality is nearly identical between the two with a very slight edge going to the Samsung Blu-ray. The Roku 720P is just slightly softer than the Blu-rays 1080P signal on the plasma. This difference could just be an HDMI/Component difference. However.... the UI on the Roku is so much better it is not even funny. It is much much faster in every way and the latest Roku software is light years ahead of the Samsung.
Question? Has anyone compared any of the other Blu-ray w/Netflix directly to a Roku? Are there any worthy competitors?
In the end I am going to order an Oppo for dedicated disc use and add an HDMI cable to the Roku for the long term.
