HT Setup...need some advice from the pros!

What's up guys! So I just purchased a LG 55LE5400 and well the sound is minimal at best! So I am in the market for a sweet home theater setup (for round $700 lol)

I will try and give you guys the information you need and the results I am looking for! I have been trying to do my research here on the forum, and will continue to do so, was just hoping to get some direction on what/where to look for (i.e. brand, setup, components, lol)

So...my TV is posted above my fireplace. The couch is at an angle between the opposite walls from the fireplace.

I have attached an image of my floorplan so you can see the wall setup and such.

I want loud/crisp/clear sound. I would like to have a 5.1 setup. I would also like a sub that really hits hard when it needs to! I looked at the "butt kickers" those look cool. Not sure on pricing so that may have to be a later thing.

I have HD Dish, PS3, xbox hooked up so these will need to run via HDMI.

My best bet to hide wires and such (in my thinking) was to have tower front speakers and wireless rears. but I am open to options, as long as I can hide the wires so I don't look like a redneck!

Thanks for the help guys

What you want is a pretty tall order considering your budget, especially the subwoofer part. A couple towers alone with a receiver already makes your budget very tight. In order to make it happen, I would get a used receiver from ebay or craigslist, spending around 150. After that, I would get a couple of Infinity Primus tower speakers and a Primus center speaker. That would take up your entire budget itself. Jamo supposedly also makes some pretty good inexpensive tower speakers. You should just wait until you save up a few hundred more dollars for the sub and rear speakers, and then ask for advice in the subwoofer forum. A older but decent receiver and some Infinity towers and center would be a good setup itself, certainly miles ahead of your TV sound, or even a satellite speaker system, which is mostly the only 5.1 system you could afford on your budget right away.

Good deal. I would stray away from tower speakers if I need to. Just have to work on hiding the wires.

I am also okay with spending more, just over time and not all at once.

Sound wise, are towers the way to go? or can i get away with others?

Begin with a receiver and two tower speakers.

Look at 2008-9 7.1 receivers from Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Panasonic, Harman Kardon. All will have the HDMI connectivity needed. There are good deals to be found, manufacturer refurbished, open box, closeouts, etc. Around $300.

This statement "I want loud/crisp/clear sound" would suggest looking for these, should be able to find a used pair for $400 or less. Example here from Phoenix CL.

Tower speakers would actually be a good start, because they are full range and you can get some nice bass right away. Of course, subwoofers do bass much better, and if you want powerful bass, you will need to save up for a sub, as the really hard hitting subs start at around 600 dollars themselves. My first choice for towers in your price range would be Infinity Primus p362's. Second choice might be BIC Acoustech PL-76's. There are other decent towers too, what you might consider doing is make a post in the speakers forum asking for suggestion in however much you are willing to spend.
