The Zoom does not work as advertised for me, the reviews were BS. Seriously, I'm sure that it worked for the reviewers, but with the Zoom on, it can no longer see my floor unless I put it under the TV. That is where my son can grab the Kinect, so now I have to move the Kinect around and out every time that I want to use it. This is ridiculous. Why would IGN give a 10 without testing it thoroughly? It also seems to be less accurate in Dance Central and Your Shape fitness. Wish I had tested it before I threw the box out, but with so many reviews saying that it works perfectly, I am disappointed.
As an imaging person, I can't imagine how you could slap some optics on a device when it is not designed for it. There has to be some draw backs and loss in precision would be an obvious one.
NoThru - Sucks that the reviews never mentioned that shortening the distance will also shorten the height. At least the thing is only a couple of bucks.
tgable - Still trolling the Kinect thread, huh? "As an imaging person," maybe you want to look in to how lenses operate. Wikis are a great thing to look in to if you want to read up a bit about the topic at hand before you maek poast. That is, only if you don't want to look silly.
the user interface is polished up over the original Wipeout.
it has different obstacles than the first Wipeout so you can't buy Wipeout 2 as if it's Wipeout with more events.
but it controls pretty much the same as the first one.
here's a vid of the original wipeout game:
here are my thoughts on the original game...
I found the controls to be good but they're not 1:1 so you have to do the motions they want you to do for things like how to swing, how to step backward, etc. and that's where the tutorials come in. I used to skip tutorials all the time (and I did when I first played this game) but this game actually requires you to know the moves. for example, to stop, you'd think you would just stop. but the game wants you to stick your hands out like you're telling someone to stop.
if you look at the giantbomb video, you can tell the guys didn't go through the tutorials.
It's a fun party game. also, if you like the TV show, it's very faithful to it.
But as a single player game, it's a bit boring. so unless you have ties to the show or have friends to play with at the house, it's not worth it at regular price.
The game is more about being silly with your friends than anything else.
how the heck do people set up the Kinect for a low location (i.e., below the TV)???
I had to do a temporary setup at a friend's place for an impromptu party and the low setup drove me crazy. When I was testing out Fruit Ninja, I found I had to slice fruit with very low arm swings or else my swings were way too high on the TV screen. I'm wondering if this was just a Fruit Ninja situation or other games as well. I had run through the calibration setups and manually adjusted the tilt as well as ran the card from Adventures/Dance Central. Anyway, I panicked after Fruit Ninja and after I found the results poor, I jerryrigged a temporary high setup for the Kinect which looked very ghetto but was good enough for the party.
just played with the demo for Kinect Sports season 2 for a bit. the graphics seem higher res than the first game. voice navigation is pretty cool. I actually preferred it over using the hands. Than hand menu navigation is a little better than the first game (though not as tight as something like kinect fun labs).
I liked the golf game. It was hilarious watching me decked out in golf gear with a beret. I know it's not like real golf but I think I fit the profile (just want to pick clubs, swing hard on distance shots, and finesse the putts).
The tennis game... I actually play real tennis and I know how hard real tennis is (which is why you can't truly emulate a tennis game because people would refuse to play a game where it's hard just to keep the tennis ball on the court). That said, while it was fun, it's not really tennis. It felt like Wii tennis except you can't do the stupid wrist snaps for uber powerful shots (which I cringed at with Wii tennis because of this stupid game mechanic). Don't get me wrong, the graphics are tons better than Wii tennis and the camera angle is more engaging. But it felt like Kinect Sports table tennis but on a bigger table. I think the tennis game will be more fun as a multiplayer game than a single player game. Whereas the table tennis game was fun either way. Curious what the minigames will be for tennis.
Dance Central 2 is almost out! no release day shipping but you do get a $10 credit and 400 ms points (to either be used for DC1 transfer into DC2 or for anything else) at Amazon.
some gameplay vids...
I can't wait! preordered from Amazon...
this vid is a good demonstration that different players can have different dances (i assume it's due to different difficulty levels? but it may be due to duet choreography rather than just simultaneous dancing)

I'm surprised that Amazon didn't have release day shipping on this game.
but at least you get to enjoy an early release. they had an early release for Just Dance 3 awhile back but I didn't get it because I've got too many games on my slate this fall and too little money.
I read that there is already launch day DLC for the game (Lady Gaga and others).
the game is almost out. for those with kids or for the Disney fans, this looks like a great title.
Yeah, I grew up in Southern California. In fact, Disneyland is about a 20 minute drive from me. So the idea of having the park on a disc is cool. If I had kids, I would so get this. As it is, my inner child might grab it anyway...
Is there anyway to tell the Kinect system if the sensor is above or below the TV?
Problem I have is our TV is mounted over the fire place and Kinect sensor is below the TV about 5' off the floor. When using menus it seems that the sesor assumes the TV is below the sensror. So to point at things you are actually pointing at the fire place that is below the TV. This gets really frustrating when trying to teach long kids how to use it.

the sensor has no idea where the TV is. all the kinect can figure out is where the kinect is and where the person is in relation to the kinect.
sorry to gush about this "game" but if you're a Disney fan, this is a must get... the reviews are coming back positive, even the negative reviews (those that lambast the fact that you need to own Kinect to play the game).
