ahh... the joys of jumping on a house floor.

If you get into Kinect games, you'll be jumping a lot. At first, I had the Kinect upstairs but people said that with continuous jumping, over time the floors will give, and you'll get noises and other problems so I moved the Kinect setup to the ground floor.

hopefully someone knows this answer: how many extension cables can i plug in end to end and have the kinect fully work? i have the kinect connected to a 10' extension cable to an xbox-s right now. can i buy another 2 10' cables (so a total of 30') plus the kinects own length?

this is for my outdoor kinect setup. i just want the cables up and out of the way. there is a wall i can use to hold all the cabling away from wild and crazy party guests and kids (so we can play just dance 3) :3!!

just get the USB active extension cable from monoprice. they have lengths up to 82 feet.

man, I'm so jealous of your screen. Disneyland Adventures (one of the most gorgeous games on the 360, by the way) would just look so surreal. All the neighbors' kids would never leave your lawn. you'd be the modern day pied piper...
Usually monoprice is my first choice since they're nearby (less than 20 miles) and cheap! I'll check em right now!

Btw diney kinect is THE title I recommend to all kinect owners! THEY EVEN HAVE THE CHURRO AND CORN DOG CARTS!!! :3

I have used the 10 meter USB cable with success, combined with a 10' USB extension. Also have used the Rock Band 4 port USB hub with this combo.

I did try internally wiring the house with USB receptacles and it didn't work, so I'm guessing 3 connections without power may be the deal breaker.

Still gotta get the Disneyland game for my boy. He had a blast on his trip.

I have the new 360 slim 4 gb and recently got Kinect. I have a projector and need to use the usb extender which I got from monprice. However, when i usethe extender, I have to use the power plug that came with kinect but when i dont have to use the extender I just connect kinect using only the usb cable. Why?

Fyi: I have the USB active extender item 8751 from monoprice. Also, there doesnt seem tobeany way to coonectthe extender without using the power cable that came withconnect.

Yes, if you're going to use the USB extension cable, you're going to have to use the Kinect power supply since a standard USB port cannot supply enough power for the Kinect.

If you don't use a USB extension cable and you have a 360S system, you can use the AUX port rather than the USB port and thus get to avoid the power supply. The AUX port can supply enough power so that the power supply is not needed.

Bought 4gb kinect last week but don't remember a power supply for the kinect

If you bought the 360S/Kinect bundle, it doesn't come with a power supply because Microsoft assumed that you would be connecting the Kinect directly to the 360S via the AUX port. Projector people or people with long cable runs only make up a small population of gamers.

alright, for those that are curious about this title , I finally got around to recording some gameplay vids.

First thing, I totally lost track of time while recording so sorry for the very long video! some video notes. Apologies for the Youtube compression, on top of the compression I made to keep the video size manageable. But it's still good enough to see how great this game looks.

I downmixed the 5.1 audio to stereo. I also blurred out the pictures that the Kinect takes of you as you're playing. No reason for you guys to see my ugly mug. Since I added the blurring, it means I had to process the video which further degraded it but I need to hide my ugly mug!

sorry about the random running around. I didn't know where I wanted to go. So like a kid in the candy store, I ended up running in all different directions. I wanted to go record Belle and Ariel but forgot where they were staying in the park. I don't know if locations of the characters are randomized. You can tell this game must be a labor of love considering the amazing detail in the game that I barely scratched in the recordings.

In the Jungle ride, I didn't know until too late that I was supposed to spray the hippos. By the time I realized, I had missed too many to make the 8/8 goal.

As for the Peter Pan game, that was my first time so pardon me for my n00b behavior. For the part when they throw fireballs at you, I figured out by the end of the video. After they shoot into the air, you're supposed to fly toward it and swat it back at them. I thought they would automatically try to shoot at me but I guess not. I should've also killed the first pirates before flying to the other side to get the remaining pirates. You do have say on which side of the ship you are fighting by flying around it. Also, for the flying, I didn't see the onscreen instructions (actually read them when playing back the recording) that you can fly up and down depending on whether you crouch or not. I didn't record the entire Peter Pan sequence because I had already recorded plenty of video and had to think about uploading them.

Sorry for forgetting to hug the characters! Normally I hug everyone! But for some reason I forgot and had to go back and hug Aladdin and Baloo. Still forgot about Tiana though.

if you're wondering why my character is looking to the right in the first vid, it's because of how my temporary recording setup is. normally (when I'm not recording), my kinect is downstairs on top of my TV and oriented in the same direction as the TV. but my HD-PVR was hooked up to my office PC and the office room doesn't have quite the room for Kinect. So the TV is facing the middle of the room but my kinect is aimed toward the left of the room (so that I had enough space). So I have to look to the right to see what I'm doing on the screen. later when I realized my character kept looking right, I tried to look straight at the kinect and peer my eyes to the right.

Ok, I just want to be sure. I have a XBox 360 4GB Slim and the Kinect (which I bought as a bundle), and I did not receive a power supply for the Kinect. With that said, My tv is about 25 feet away from where the XBox 360 is, Which cable(s) should I be buying from Monoprice to accomplish this?

3 of these?

or 1 of these?

if it was me, I'd buy the single cable and the Kinect power supply.

just kind of funny that there are cheap imitation chinese versions of the "official" kinect extension cable. probably works the same as the official PDP licensed version but funny nonetheless.
Buy the 1 cable. I have one, it works. I have used it with a second extension and it works ok. I tried using it with a few shorter cables so I could have in-wall terminations and it failed. So the less connection points you have the better.

For those with projectors, are you mounting the kinect high or low?

I can be high at 7ft or low at 22" but it would be sitting on top of my center speaker (which may be a no no).

Also how far away are you from the kinect? I worry about projector shadows.

I know for me at 6'2" I couldn't get far enough back to keep from having a big shadow of my head on the screen. Sensor was about 2' from the floor, was OK for wife and kids but not for me. Also recognition and pictures were really bad because of not enough light, thing seems to need a ton of light to get decent pictures. So it ended up going on our regular TV and not the projector.

7ft up is fine and preferred over lower to the ground.

Only thing to keep in mind is the higher it is the closer you have to be to the display. That can be bad for a projector.

Actually if you have the floor space having it on a tripod so you could place it out away from the screen to get you further from the screen would be a good idea.

Actually this is more likely the result of the camera catching light from the projector and decreasing exposure to compensate.

I prefer to do my workout stuff in the open space with the projector but for more action oriented games where missing the picture wrecks the game I'll use a smaller LCD.

Could be, it was mounted a couple of inches below the bottom of the screen to not right in the light path.

Even in the living room I have to turn every light possible on and the picture is still somewhat grainy (that is 6 100 watt bulbs and 4 60 watt bulbs)

Does anyone know how to unlock Belle and Cinderella in the Princess Faire Gameplay? My 4 year old daughter really wants to dance with them and we can't figure out how to unlock them. We completed the Belle quest and thought that would do it but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tiger Woods 13 for Kinect... looking mighty good for either Kinect or the standard controller. finally something to justify a new version every year (like how much does golf change from year to year???)

This seems like a logical extension of Kinect.

The Daily had a chance to check out a pair of prototypes incorporating Kinect sensors over the last few days. The devices, which at first glance appear to be Asus netbooks running Windows 8, feature an array of small sensors stretching over the top of the screen where the webcam would normally be. At the bottom of the display is a set of what appear to be LEDs.

A source at Microsoft has confirmed that the devices are indeed official prototypes of laptops featuring a Kinect sensor. In terms of functionality, there are hundreds of different ways that motion control could be leveraged in a portable. Gaming has the most obvious applications, but a Kinect-enabled laptop could also toggle between programs with the wave of a hand, or media controls could be tweaked with the wag of a finger. What’s more, motion-controlled portables could offer a new way for disabled individuals to interact with their devices.

I wasn't sure what to make of the videos of Tiger Woods 13 with the Kinect. The Giant Bomb video gave me the idea that the Kinect might wind up being too klunky and inefficient. Heck, even the Producer seemed to be getting a little irritated with it!?

Another thing that I'm going to have a problem coming to terms with is the perpendicular orientation of my actual swing to the direction the ball will be traveling. It just flies against my logical senses. I heard that EA Sports was capturing conference goers "swinging" from the side, using some new Kinect technology, at the Otronicon Conference in Orlando a couple of weeks ago. Maybe we'll eventually see a "side-on" option possibly at launch, or more likely later in a patch. I'm going to have to really feel immersed in the place and time to invest the extra effort this dodgy navigation is going to require.

One thing they haven't mentioned in any of the videos yet is that it will be possibly to actually swing a real club, or something simulating the weight and feel of a club in the game. It won't adversely affect the interface, as it doesn't look at anything beyond your hands. I think this will go a long way toward giving the game an added sense of realism and certainly feel. I find it feels really awkward to perform and empty handed golf swing.

The big news with Tiger 13 is the revolutionary new tempo-based swing mechanic, dubbed "Total Swing Control". Intuitive feel is what this game has been missing and from all that I've read, this will give the game a solid chance at capturing and delivering that quality.

well no offense mate, golf just isn't the thing for me

If you knew the history of Giant Bomb and how they use their quick looks, you would know that you can use their Quick Look videos only for information and not for performance of a title.

That video was made in Giant Bomb's studio with Giant Bomb's equipment, designed for their green screen effects. If you watch old Giant Bomb videos, you'd know that the quick look is supposed to be a quick look. And because it's only a quick look, they often just pop a game into the system and just start recording right away. No looking at instructions, no watching tutorials, doing calibration, etc.

For a controller game, that's okay. If the guy messes up, you would just scoff and say, hey, the guy doesn't know you can't do so-and-so in the game. They often use the Quick Look for #*%^ and giggles anyway. For games that require devices that need calibration, that's not okay. They've unfairly showed quick looks at Wii, Move, and Kinect games where they clearly did not set up the game properly or demoed it properly.

So you take it for what it's worth but the quick look is not truly indicative of any of the games shown. It's just one more input toward whether a title is worth your time. The game probably doesn't work as well as the developers say. But it's probably not as broken as the trolls say either.

I would assume that you can use a club if you wanted to. People use swords and stuff in games like Fruit Ninja and Kung Fu High Impact (some funny Youtube videos showing that). In fact, the developers of Kung Fu said they recommend you use foam sticks or toy weapons as their game design will treat the device as a physical object (http://www.xboxliveaddicts.co.uk/ind...mpact-qa-r4453). So I assume that the Kinect wouldn't recognize the club anyway. But I can't imagine the mayhem that could ensue.

Here's a developer video with Tiger Woods:

It's funny that he brings up Wii waggle and whether the Kinect version would have it. and they answered back that you can't just whip your hands around as fast as you can.

And here was the pic that Tiger leaked out months ago...

None taken, and yeah, an esoteric topic like golf games probably doesn't need to be cluttering up the Kinect thread anyway.

You can... the developers have already confirmed this! It will definitely be the way I'd go, if the Kinect interface is up to spec.

Here's a developer video with Tiger Woods:

I'd seen that earlier, and it struck me that Tiger wasn't too enthralled to see the perpendicular approach to the swing. The developers are trying to appease his concerns about it with their explanation as to why it has to be that way early in the video. I still get the sense that he's rather be swinging toward the virtual target than 90 degrees to the side.
tiger woods is a must buy this year for me.... really liking where the kinect stuff is going for this game. I also do think the sideways orientation is off but I understand why they did it.

haven't bought a tw game in a few yrs but this year they finally added something worth upgrading for.

the menu system does look cumbersome but this is still months from release so I bet the interface gets tweaked so it performs better.
