I am not going to be in any rush to get any of the "sports" game at launch.... I am sure it will come out very quickly which one is better after the reviews. I lean towards kinect sports though because its made by mgs.

I did decide to just go ahead and get yourshape over ea sports active 2..... namely because the higher cost for active 2 with the heartrate monitor.... don't see it being that much of a better game to be worth 2x the cost.

I'm surprised that Dance Paradise isn't on the launch list. It's being advertised by its publisher that it's a November game and it looks like a dance game I'm picking up with Dance Central.

Zumba Fitness is a maybe for me just for the fact that I've always wanted to learn Latin dances like meringue and salsa.

I'm hoping that game party in motion is good but it's cheaper at $40 and they have so many minigames in it. makes me wonder if it's jack of all trades, master of none. zero press either which is scary but it has billiards and root beer tapper and those would be why I'm interested.

I'm almost fully sold on Kinect Sports but just need to see more of it.

I'm a big fan of motion controls. I owned an eyetoy for my ps2. I owned DDR for Xbox1 and PS2. I have GH and RB kits. I have DJ Hero. I love Singstar for PS3 and Lips for 360. Karaoke Revolution nut. I liked my bro's modded Wii.

All conspiracies aside, I find it odd that this device can take snapshots of you during the game. Who's to say that this thing isn't taking pictures or video of you "whenever"? Do we really know what's in those "updates" when we log in?

This looks like a cool device even though. I'll wait until more games and other uses are available first -- and whatever bugs are worked out (and feedback from users).

They are pumping this up to sell out for Christmas. What do yall think? Any games for gamers?

Depends on your definition of Gamer. FPS players (e.g. Halo?) : No. And don't expect any. Casual/Party Games: Yes.

IMHO the best game for Kinect this holiday is Dance Central. Coming in second would be Kinect Sports.

It's also really cool to control your TV with the wave of a hand

I'm sure the privacy policy on the packaging will state that Microsoft truly does not care about photos of you, or photos of you lounging around in your underwear - Similarly, it will undoutebly be an option that you can toggle the photo-taking functionality off on games.

*gasp* why would you get rid of ps3 or wii???

anyway, the easiest way would be to just move your TV back a few inches and put the Kinect at the bottom in front of the TV. If your TV is already up against the wall and you can't slide it back, then I'd move the entertainment center forward a few inches so that you can move the TV backward.

otherwise, you could use the wall mount and place it above your entire setup.

you can always trust your instincts. they're usually right.

I'm putting the Kinect in front at the base of our Toshiba 65" DLP. The TV is the perfect size for the built-in entertainment center (less than an inch on each side). The only issue is that the TV speakers line the bottom of the TV so I'm going purely surround sound speakers in the ceiling and back when using Kinect and turning off TV audio so it doesn't interfere with voice recognition.

Thanks onlysublime for the tips. I had already seen the mounting accessories, but didn't think any of those would help me. First the wall mount, I thought it would be too high point down if that matters. Second the tv mount, wouldn't work because of my center channel speaker. Third the tripod, don't know the height it is to be placed in the front of the TV only when the Kinect is used.

From what I saw in the videos of setting up the Kinect the recommended height was between 2 feet off the ground to 6 feet off the ground. So anywhere in between those two should be good. We will have to wait and see how accurate those numbers are.

your current setup is actually kind of low. I don't see how the wall mount would be too high.

In fact, I read somewhere (though I can't seem to locate it right now) that a high placement may actually allow players to stand closer because it would allow the camera to easier see both the floor and the top of the person (as the camera is tilted downward rather than upward because upward tilting could lose sight of the floor if the camera is placed very low and is looking upward to see the face). Who knows. This is purely conjecture because I can't find the link, and I don't have a Kinect.

Was not saying that \\. But when some says gamer they surely not playing animalnetics or Wii. Maybe some Halo shoot I would even take some Lego games for my kids. They are following the same weak route as Wii. At least give us gamers a reason to buy it. I have a couple on order for the family but man i am not impressed with the line up.
Can't I just mount it in one of the sides of the Center Channel on top of the edge of the TV and tilt it towards the middle, wouldn't that work?

Mostly all the demo video's I see on Youtube have the camera very low. One of them shows 2 camera, maybe the low for kids and the high for adults, who knows.

So you are less of a "gamer" if you play a Wii? What about playing Angry Birds on the Iphone? Have you actually played any of the Kinect games recently? I don't own or play a Wii. Sure the launch games may not appeal to you or others but it doesn't make anyone any less of a gamer because they actually might enjoy playing them as much as they do playing Halo. Some gamers like myself enjoy all types of games on all types of formats.

There is plenty of information on the games and functions of Kinect now on Live and all over the net to know if any games now and in the near future are right for you.

Basically no it wouldn't and there are videos on Xbox Live or You Tube that will explain the functions of why you would need the sensor directly above or below your display. Low for kids and high for adults have nothing to do with the positions of those cameras other than simply representing where the position of the sensor needs to be. The sensor has a motorized tilt/swivel and can follow you around the room.

Also I just saw your pic in your previous post. Your choices with that would be the tripod in front of the tv at the height where the power button is at on your display. Otherwise on the back with wall mount above your center channel which will allow you to be closer to the display vs the tripod in front of the display.

FYI Kinect can recognize you when sitting on the floor using your hands when navigating across the screen just as well as sitting on a couch.

This would be correct.

You are spending $300+ on shovelware? I hope MS gives you frequent buyer miles or something.

I am also buying Black Ops, Force Unleashed II, Fable III and GT5. Why do you care what people spend their money on. You made it clear in your post before you don't care about anything Kinect but my choice of what I am spending for me and my family made you want to post a response?

I think the best would be the wall mount, but does that mean I need that expensive extension cable for the long run up? How long is the included cable? And thanks for the info; I didn't know the Kinect will be motorized.

We know you've thrown your money down on the Move. No need to troll 360 posts including Kinect. Just be happy with what you have. No need to hate. I know, haters hate. Trolls troll. But try to be above that.

The cheapest (and arguably easiest) way to extend the distance to your USB device is by using a USB Active Extension Cable. These cables have built-in USB repeaters that actually boost the USB signal, allowing you to go further than the 16 foot maximum distance. The most common length for these cables is 16 feet and you can chain up to four of these together with no loss in signal. Assuming you are using the longest USB device cable available (also 16 feet), USB Active Extension Cables allow for a maximum distance of 80 feet between your computer and USB device. They are available in USB 1.1 (12 Mbps) and USB 2.0 (480 Mbps).

This should work well with both Kinect & Move

I'm going to be checking out kinect for sure. It looks like fun to me and who knows where it'll be going down the road!

As I've mentioned many times prior on this board, I'm very excited to see what comes of Kinect. But I've noticed my enthusiasm waning as its launch approaches. I believe I'll still be getting it, I just went from Pre-Order to Wait For The 1st Reviews.

It is reassuring to see mboojigga's continuing interest since, if I'm not mistaken, he is participating in the preview. Which clearly makes your opinions the most informed in this thread. Even more so then our favorite Kinect Troll

And I'm waiting for anyone that advanced that silly nonsense about Kinect only working while standing admit they went overboard. This is a case where the Kotaku guy obviously misinterpreted what was said. And a moment of critical thought would have revealed that to most readers.

DJ, you can mount it next to the Center Channel and skew it a bit toward the middle, it should work fine. You just have to remember to face the camera (and not the TV) straight on with fine control games like bowling.

The recommended placement is 2 feet above the ground. As you go higher, it will require more tilt. About 4 or 5 feet is about the max you want to go high, otherwise, you have to mount the device tilted towards the ground.

My only concern about that was the center channel. Hell for just for giggles I would try right on top of that center channel. He is only dealing with treble.

...Others may already have Kinect devices but are unwilling to confirm or deny their participation in the beta.

There is still some truth to the standing vs sitting issue. Some (Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports, Kinect JoyRide, Dance Central, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved) games require that you stand while playing. Some apps (Zune, Last.FM, Video Kinect, the Kinect Hub, the main dashboard) can be controlled while sitting or standing. And some apps frustrating enough don't work with Kinect at all (e.g. the new Netflix app). This isn't to say that games in the future wont be able to do both - just dont expect it at launch.
