So that's it? Because MS didn't show hardcore games today that means none tommorrow?

Like the official MS statement I quoted above said, their focus is on making Kinect for "everyone" (i.e. families), and they will keep using solely traditional controllers for "core" games. That doesn't rule out the possibility in the future, but that likely means that nothing is currently in development--at least at MS. It might mean more things like the watered down Forza (full of basic, accessible mini-game versions of the real thing).

Sony's mistake was selling the PS3 at $600 and pushing features that people didn't want in a game system. And then coming out with really funky commercials.

That is getting in the price range of the miserable selling 3DO.

people were in sticker shock when the 360 debuted. but then sony debuted with $600 and were telling people to save up money to buy it.

But people buy what they want. the 3DS will sell gangbusters even though rumors are $250-300. because people like the idea of 3D without glasses.

similarly, people will buy kinect if the games are right. people into ddr were paying $250 for a single metal ddr pad! and don't forget how expensive rock band was.

your pricing is off.

the "nunchuk" is the nav controller and is optional. so i wouldn't count that in the price.

but many of their demos requires 2 move controllers and 1 cam for a single player.

so the estimate at this point is $50 per move controller and $30 for the cam. so that's $130 for 1 player. so 2 players is $230 (4 moves and 1 cam).

The even crazier thing is that retailers are saying $59.99 for the games.

And yours in worst case. As of now we no of no two player games that require two moves per person. Some are pass the controller(s) and some have the second move as an option (archery).

So $100-$140 depending if you have on Eye.

I'm not even bringing up 2 players. and as of now, we know of no games that do not require 2 move controllers.

for the sword fighting game, one interviewer asked them if he needed 2 move controllers because the demo required 2 move controllers. the developer said they were going to add a mode that didn't require 2 move controllers.

there has been no indication that archery or boxing could use 1 move controller. if you find me a link, i'll be glad to change that part.

this is where it's too early to judge either move or kinect. but if you're going to go "as of now" then you have to judge that the move games require 2 move controllers per player. and if you're going to go "as of now" then you have to say that move is laggy. 2 separate bloggers stated that the move was laggy and definitely not 1:1. this is where the months to come can tighten up the code. so doing the "as of now" argument is false and deceiving. it's still very early and it's quite possible that both move and kinect can be delayed because there's been very little time for gestation of these systems. my guess is that they'll release no matter what and just call these the first gen games with whatever warts they have. there always has to be a first gen and these are it.

Exactly. Folks giving me **** for being too harsh on Kinect don't seem to get that it comes from a place of love!

Lag is a substantial issue for all three console's motion controllers. This is the single-most important issue keeping hardcore devs and gamers from jumping on board.

IMO the reason reviewers have been generally positive about Kinect (and Move) is that they've learned the lesson of the Wii. Most reviewers have learned to write with "kid gloves" (or if they can't, to find a reviewer who can) when discussing anything to do with the casual market and motion gaming in particular. Just like the console manufacturers and publishers are expanding their markets, gaming sites are also doing the same thing. So it's in their best interest to be as "fair" as possible when it comes to these new technologies.



Why in the world would I want to see her front?

this is an iffy game for me. graphics look great. speed is great. but it seems like a lot of work. i never got into skateboarding so having a skateboard control system doesn't do it for me.

it seems like an arcade game that you see at dave and busters. not that that's a bad thing. but it doesn't give much hope to depth.

if i'm going to be putting in the work, it better be dancing. not pseudoskateboarding.

i used to be a ddr nut. even bought a pair of the foam ddr pads when they were $70 each (and that was at ebay prices). but that was even a drop in the bucket compared to ddr people who paid $500 for 2 metal pads.

then again, I bought the Guitar Hero World Tour kit when it was near the peak. and there are Rock Band gurus who paid over $200 for a drum set or will pay for one of the new guitars.

so again, if the experience is worth it, it's worth it.

to each his own. some people pay hundreds for gaming headphones. to me, that's excessive.

The only real surprise in that video is just how obnoxious video game coverage can get. No wonder the rest of the world thinks games are for children. That guy talks like he's the host of ABC Kids.

If you have access to an MS store, they're going to have Kinect demos.

Will try to head out to one in a couple weeks to try it out. The Mission Viejo store is a great store. It's only 10 minutes away. But it's not in a great mall. I wish MS paid a little more for a better location.

Wish I still lived in San Diego to try out the SD store. That one is actually in a popular mall.

the MS store in Mission Viejo is actually where I got my Skinit skin for my 360. They sell it $10 cheaper than the online skinit.com store and you get it in 15 minutes rather than waiting for shipment.

How did u get to the point of pre-ordering in the first place after just a week of availability?

I know that they won't be demo'ing Dance Central but I wish they could.

For one, Dance Central is a third party app. And Microsoft is pushing their in-house games first.

Plus, Harmonix would want to be able to control the parameters of a demo. Considering how fragile demo builds can be, I can see them wanting full control over how the demo is presented. You don't want to stick an early build in a store that does not manage the demo directly and is governed by people being paid $10 with little training.

But if MS truly wants to push this as a platform, they need to push the star titles. Dance Central is racking up the awards.
