I doubt that it does since the Kinect seems auto sense the room and tilt itself.

My set is about 6' high too and I wonder if it will work better at knee height or head height.

As it stands now, I have my PSEYE on the top middle of the screen and it performs well up there, though EYE Pet requires the camera to be at knee height.

I hope we don't have to move the Kinect to different locations for different games.

I am very much looking forward to the Kinect and getting the family (from my 5 year old to my 75 year old father in law) all together playing it.

Doubt it. No worries, the sensor has a motorized tilt that will adjust to your playspace.

1hr footage of Kinect Games

I'm in the middle of watching this right now. I was on the fence about getting it, but the more I see, the more I want to play. I know that my niece will love the kinectimals (sp). It is definitely in its infancy but shows a lot of room for improvement.

The more I saw the more bored I got (you can even see the guys sitting in the background yawning) yet I know I will buy one as I am a sucker for new tech...

So that son's name is a play on his own name since his full name is Michael Jeffrey Jordan and the son's name is Jeffrey Michael Jordan.

Neither are old enough to be in the NBA. They're both in college, and the caption in the vid said NBA player. I just checked nba.com. the only current nba player that is a jordan is DeAndre Jordan. So I have no clue who that guy was. Maybe it was his son and they mislabeled him.

Too bad they didn't have Kobe at the LA launch event. Guess he was gearing up for the NBA season premiere.

Oh I knew he wasn't in the NBA. I just wasn't sure if that was his actual son. My post was laughing at the fact they named him as being the actual BB player.

BTW Velcro works just fine with Kinect if anyone is using a micro Rear Projo. I am purchasing a new display when I return but currently on a 60in XBR LCOS. I will definately look into getting the mount when I return.

According to the internet (and you know how inaccurate they can be) are saying the nda is up monday so you will see reviews then.

No surprise - Dance Central is going to get the highest review marks. I'm not really expecting glowing reviews for anything else.

So have they announced any games that a person who actually plays video games would want? ie. a game that uses the gamepad +kinect integration?

Depends if Steel Batallion is going to be that type of game. They announced it is Kinect compatible. No one knows if that means gamepad +Kinect but will we find out when they release the info.

The recommended placement is 2 feet above the ground. As you go higher, it will require more tilt. About 4 or 5 feet is about the max you want to go high, otherwise, you have to mount the device tilted towards the ground.

Thanks! I will see what I can do cause I don't want to mount it on the wall.

Does anybody know if the kinect will be able to do the minority report hand waving for the dashboard? I don't particularly care for any games that will use the kinect. But I will get it if I can navigate the dashboard without a regular controller.

it's been discussed a number of times. you can use your hand or you can use voice shortcuts. there's a developer video somewhere (can't find it at the moment where they go over some voice shortcuts).

It looks like Kinect owners will get a little bit more for their hard earned cash when buying Kinect. As you probably know, every Kinect sensor comes with a copy of Kinect Adventures which contains 20 different adventures you can play. Believe it or not, there is more content than just that. YouTube user jefreestyles had some time with the full version of Kinect Adventures and confirmed with me that demos of Dance Central, Kinect Joyride, and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved are available to play on the Kinect Adventures disc. Now when you buy Kinect, you now know you have more things to try out than just adventures.

still can't find the developer vid with the kinect shortcuts. i assume there'll be a webpage just like with windows shortcuts. i love shortcuts (win + E, anyone?).

I assumed they're using the same voice recognition engine that is in Windows 7 and MS Office. which means you have to be more deliberate in your speech pacing and enunciation.

I wonder if it has voice training lessons like in windows. that made the recognition in windows much better over time. the more you talk in the training, the better the system gets at recognizing your voice. unfortunately, in windows at least, that means separate profiles for each person so everybody that wanted to use the voice system would have to training windows for their voice.

the guy in the video did short barking bursts of audio (which is why I think he has a stuttering problem too). people who speak like this also tend to add fillers to their speech as well using words like "umm" or "like" to fill in gaps.

I wish MS could license the dragon naturally speaking voice recognition engine. Now that is some stellar technology. I could be far more natural with the dragon software for dictating than with MS's software. Though as a med student, I wished for more accuracy since a lot of terms we use are very unconventional and specific. I constantly had to train windows/dragon for simple terms like subcutaneous which became super tedious after a few hundred medical words.

Very good. Much better than the BestBuy in store offer. where you only get a $20 gift card with the purchase of 3 Kinect Games. Either way I will be cancelling my 3 Kinect game preorders from BestBuy.com and either be looking at Target or purchasing in store at BestBuy.

Does anyone anticipate any shortages in stores like BBy or Target. I am on the fence but leaning picking this up.

Considering its sold out at Amazon, I would say yes. I would also guess some people are going to try and flip it on ebay. Looks like supply and demand are going to be out of whack here in the beginning.

Cool. Thanks. I'm gonna check with my local BBy (that's were I planned on heading to) and see if I can pre-order it.

I read that Best Buy ran out of pre-orders as well. I'd assume that they'll have a shipment that they'll be selling in addition to the pre-orders, but might be worth giving them a call first.

Best Buy didn't "run out" per se, it's just that the preorder window has ended. On the back of my preorder case it explicitly says it can be sold until 10/30.
