"Official" Yamaha RX-V667/RX-V767 Thread - Page 101

Hi,
So why does everytime I shut off my computer that is connected to the Yamaha rx-v667 that it switches from 1080p to 480p (the violin screen). I think that because of the switch from 1080p to 480p that it always misarranges my desktop icons. Is there a way to make the standby screen 1080p rather than 480p?
Another question is that when I set my computer to 5.1 surround in the Control Panel Audio in Windows 7, I could only get PCM, and when I set the computer to Stereo I am able to get Dolby Digital Music, Dolby Digital Movie, and so forth. Why is this? Is it because I only have 3.1 channels (front x2, center, sub)?
And when I am in 5.1 surround in Control Panel, the sound produced is significantly quite than if I was in stereo. Is it because my speakers (B&W CM1 and CMC 2) have a low sensitivity?
Also I seem to not be able to feel the thump and the lows of my sub (Polk Audio PSW505) until I set it to 120hz and I also have to set in the control panel to +4db to hear the lows. Isn't it suppose to be at 80hz that I could also hear the lows, but in my case I can barely hear it much less feel the thump.
Can anyone please teach me how to calibrate my Yamaha Rx-V667. I swear I know I am doing something wrong.
Thanks.

Thanks.

I triied setting the video to a fixed 1080i and it still sends 480p when there is no input signal. You could change the PC screen to "align to grid" from "auto arrange". They will still move, but keep their same relative positions.

Have have no suggestions on the other problems.

not sure how active this thread still is but i picked one of these up at bestbuy, i know i'm sorta late to the party, but i've noticed i'm having difficulty getting bass out of the system. crossover is set via the manual (max on the sub) and i have it down to 60 in the setup, set speakers to both small and large, and use the extra bass setting if set to large (my fronts are cerwin vega d-5's so def large). I get decent bass on big noises from blu ray, but dvd and netflix streaming are giving very poor crossover to the bass comparatively to my old onkyo 606. I am fairly certain i am just setting this up wrong, just not sure what i should play with, i have the sub up db in the levels setup.
It just seems to not wanna kick over to the sub a lot of the time so smaller explosions, or booms don't set it off.

otherwise the receiver is doing alright. still tempted to start the grand search for one of the clearance pioneer elites, but as long as I can figure out the bass issue i think i'll be sold (i like my booms). Sub is a sony saw3000, not exactly high end, but capable for the small room i have.

I see. So the problem is the switch between 1080p to 480p that misarranges the desktop icon right? There is no possible way of setting the idle screen of Yamaha RX-V667 to 1080p?
Thanks.

The "idle screen" or "lack of input screen" seems fixed at 480p. Perhaps someone else can help you. The AVR doesn't rearrange your PC icons. The PC does that.

Try running YPAO and see how it sounds, you can tweak it from there. The 667 will most likely see the D5's as large and set the sub at the cross for them.

Hello there,

I have a strange problem with my RXV-767, I'll try to explain :

I'm using 3 sources :

HDMI 1 : WD HD TV LIVE
HDMI 2 : PS3
HDMI 3 : HD tv decoder

and 2 monitors :

HDMI OUTPUT 1 : Plasma LG
HDMI OUTPUT 2 : Hitachi LCD projector

Before I was using a Marantz AV Receiver and a cheep HDMI switch to manage everything. With this previous config everything went fine, the only element I did change is the Yamaha RXV-767.

Problem is :

everything is working fine with the first unit (HDMI 1 - WD TV Live). I have a picture on the plasma and the Projector, both at the same time if I want it (HDMI OUT 1 + 2)
With the PS3 and the HD TV decoder, I only have a picture on the plasma and only if I choose HDMI OUTPUT 1. I cannot have a picture on my projector if I select those 2 other sources. The welcome screen disappear, the screen becomes black and you can see that it tries to show the picture : the message "no HDMI input" keeps poping every 5 seconds. If I choose HDMI 1 + 2 both monitors (Plasma and projector) have the same problem. Then if I only choose output 1 (plasma) the picture is showing correctly on it.

I really tried everything I can : settings into menus, changing format (1080p 1080i 720p,etc) even the hidden menu of the Yamaha (where I did try to change the "Monitor Check" option) , I tried to switch HDMI cables between sources and the Yamaha, I buy a new one (1.4 HDMI) to be sure but nothing is changing.

Do you have any idea before I send it back to the seller ? Is it maybe possible to use the RXV-667 firmware 2.05 on this unit ?

Any help will be welcome !

Thanks a lot,
Gauthier

(sorry for my english, not perfect I think )

My V-867 insists that my Sony TV be connected to the AVR's HDMI 1 Out and my Panasonic TV be connected to the AVR's HDMI 2 Out. I get bad results with the Sony to 2 and the Panasonic to 1. On your setup, see if swapping the cables at the HDMI Out connections on the AVR helps.

I have a RX-V667 hooked up to Polk Audio speakers (60's for L&R, C20 Center and 40's for surrounds) and two BIC America F-12 subwoofers.
Ran the initial YPAO speaker set up and everything checked out ok.
But I seem to be having trouble with the subwoofers output levels.
YPAO set the levels down to -10.0 dB.
That's so low that you can't even hear any output at all from the subs.
So I went into the onscreen speaker set up menu and selected the manual set up to increase output to -3 dB.
But the subwoofer doesn't even appear in the menu.
WTF!!!
So how do I adjust the subs levels???

Oh also I forgot to mention that the YPAO set my surround speakers to LARGE.
So I changed them to small in the menu.
YPAO correctly set the front left, right and center speakers to small.

In level menu, sub is above left front, use up button and scroll up to next page.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I'll live with 480p upscaled since the tv can't do native 720p. I wonder why the ability to upscale 720p to 1080p starts at that higher price point? Are there people with this issue that are willing to pay hundreds more for it? Or maybe more likely the higher end video processing chip just happens to have this feature and people would be buying the more expensive receiver for other high-end reasons.

is the HTR6063B the same AVR as the RX-v667. the 667 says it has a front HDMI and supports ipod album art. I couldnt find this for the 6063.
Calibrated and still get a "level error" "sw >+10db". I am using a Polk PSW-505. Tried setting the level on the sub, at the sub, at max and min and still same calibration result. Is this normal? Should I just ignore it?

Hi marmyk1, the front HDMI input is located left of the volume knob under the word "Video Aux" (remove the protective cover).

Hi mirkolop, as a test try moving the sub to a different location and set sub volume knob to half.

It's in a corner, under a small table, next to a cuchy couch. I'll move it to the other end of the couch tomorrow, not next to a corner. I still don't understand what ">+10db." means. Does it mean that the calibration program could not get the sub to play soft enough...or loud enough?

By the way, the auto program set the size of my speakers to "large" (JBL L-100's). I set them to small but I get the same >+10db on the sub.

Make sure the sub is ON when you run YPAO, sometimes if the sub goes into standby mode YPAO misses the sub during setup.
The sub is not hearing a LFE signal so it shuts down. As a result YPAO doesnt see the sub, again because it has gone into standby/shut down. Seems like a bug but easily worked around. Have everything set up ready to go, turn your sub off then back ON and run YPAO before the sub goes nighty nite again. Another work around is not use Auto msetting on the sub, set it so when it turns on it stays on, after YPAO has you can try setting the sub back to auto.
Good Luck!

I don't think being on is the problem, as I hear all the test tones come through the sub. I did power it on during one of my test runs and then put it back to auto afterwards. Same results.

I am using an Adcom amp on this receiver, to power my JBL L-100's. I did not know what to choose under amp, since my options were normal, biamp and extra zone. I just stayed with normal and my mains sound fine and they too play the calibration game when the program runs. I wonder if my JBL's put out lots of bass as it is. I'll keep playing with it, I just expected the auto set-up to go seamlessly.

Thanks cbhpi but I allready try to switch all cables, in & out.
It seems that as soon as the TX200 is on, there's a signal problem between the Yamaha and both outputs, but not with the WD HD Live.

Weird...

Hello there,

I need to enter the Self Diagnostic mode on the RX V767 but I don't find the right combination of buttons (the one for the x65 doesn't seems to work).

Does someone found it ?

Thanks.

Start with it turned OFF. Then press and hold the TONE CONTROL and INFO buttons on the front panel, and while keeping them pressed turn the unit on with the MAIN ZONE button on the front panel. It should go into the Self-Diagnostic mode.

This past weekend I added a brand new Sony BDP-S580 blu-ray player to my HT system.
I connected the player to my RX-V667 with an HDMI cable.
The cable went from the HDMI OUT on the back of the player to the BD/DVD HDMI 1 imput on the receiver.
I have a HDMI cable connected to the HDMI OUT on the receiver to the ARC/HDMI 4 imput on my Sony Bravia KDL60NX720 HDTV.
So after setting up the blu-ray player I popped a BD in it and pressed PLAY.
Beautiful picture but NO SOUND!!!
I disconnected the cables and then reconnected them making sure that the connections were correct.
Then I turned everything off in my HT system and then turned everything back on (reboot).
I even unplugged everything and then plugged it all in again.
Still...NO SOUND!!!
What am I doing wrong?

Please excuse me for starting small, but our equipment is a little different. I have an S570 and an EX700. There is a Yamaha V867 in between. The AVR is in passthrough mode, and I have used the TV's HDMI2 input for the BR in the past before I bought the AVR.

Is your S580 on the internet? That would give you a source of audio too.
I guess you used HDMI4 since 1 to 3 were already used?
You have no regular DVD or audio CD to test with?
You have checked every menu for "audio on HDMI" options?

Your experience is very abnormal. I would hook up a RWY cable just to test the stuff.

I'm find it odd that nobody has started an S580 thread yet. I do think there is an EX720 thread though.

Oops, my bad. The speaker icons should indicate audio from the BR. If they are there, it's a problem from that input to the TV.

1. Not on the internet except for firmware update.
2. Yes.
3. I also used a DVD to test and still NO SOUND!!!
4. Yes.
5. There is an S580 thread and I posted there too.

Be sure secondary audio is off in S580. Have you tried hdmi1 on your tv?

1. Not on the internet except for firmware update.

That seems to indicate that only your Blu-ray player lacks sound, not other audio, like Pandora. If that's true I would think the BR is bad. If not, I would bypass the AVR and test the S580 directly into your TV. You can feed it (TV) anything and it will still have DD2.0 sound with its internal speakers. Just as a test of course.

On the AVR, you would hit OnScreen, Inputs, HDMI1, up arrow, and see HDMI1 as Audio In. Any HDMI input can get its audio from any other non-HDMI input if so selected. That's what the white Scene button can do also. My white BR/DVD button sets a different sound selection than the white CD button but both use HDMI1 as a source.
