Help me pick a set of fronts

Hello
Just looking for some suggestions/recommendations for a pair of front speakers out there based on my budget/room.

Background:
I've been using the same Onkyo HTS780 HTIB setup for a few years now, and if I had nothing to compare it to, id say it is actually a pretty great setup for the price. The problem is that my dad has a 5.1 Paradigm setup (Monitor 11's, CC370, mini monitors in the rear, and a PW-2200) and I know what good sounds like. I just recently bought a house, and my living room is pretty large. It has tile flooring, and opens up into the kitchen such that there are only 3 walls. Dimensions are roughly 15x14 (but 15x30 if you count the kitchen space.
My Onkyo setup always lacked clarity, that crispness if you will, but was good enough when in a small carpeted room. Now in addition to being slightly muffled sounding, they just don't fill my room. No warmth, just loudness.
Speakers that I have demoed in store:
-Paradigm Titans
-Usher S520
-Epos ELS-3
-B&W DM602

These are all roughly in my budget (would like to try to remain under $500 if possible, don't mind buying used if necessary) and each sounded great (some better than others of course) but don't know if they are still too small.
My dad has a pair of the B&W 602's as well, I brought them over to try, and they sounded world's better than the Onkyo's, but still not the warm full sound I was looking for in my huge room.

Are floor standing speakers necessary for me? Would the Titan's be big enough? Or does anyone have any recommendations on models I should look into?

Just FYI, they will be used probably 50-50 split for music and home theater, id like to get a matching center channel sometime in the future as well.

Thanks
David

the only way you will know for sure is to get with the dealers, since those brands are only sold thru a dealer, and work out an audition of each in your living room.

Just an opinion....but "warmth" in a large sterile hard surfaced room is more a matter of acoustics and acoustical treatments than speakers.

Coompletely agree....also in an untreated room you'll get timing conflicts (every sound or word hitting your ears milliseconds after the original sound or word hit your ears) caused by those first reflections which will muddy up any speaker sound...making voices hard to understand and killing clarity. Just somehting to be aware of.

Audition, Audition, Audition.........
You can also audition in-store of course....just try and find places that have demo rooms and bring your own material so you can hear how each speaker characteristics put it's own spin on you material.

Also...I actually own some Paradigm Focus bookshelves and have owned Titans years ago....I've heard the new ones too and actually prefer them to the monitor 11 (not to fond of the monitor series) The Titans and even the Atoms are outstanding speakers.... not saying you should or shouldn't by Paradigm (everyone has different taste)...my ears just happen to like them a lot.

You will never get that "warm full sound" in a tile room. At minimum you need a pretty large area rug.

You can experiment using the 602's and laying down comfortors, blankets, pillows, etc. to see if that makes a difference in the room.

The B&W 602's may not ultimately be your favorite speaker but if they don't sound good in your room then nothing will!

I don't know where you live but I have a pair of Legacy Audio Studios I am selling. They are a very nice speaker that will sound warmer than any B&W. They will be close to your budget and I have a Legacy Cinema center as well. I also have the Classics but didn't want to stray out from what you want to spend.

These are only for sale because I am separating my 2 channel and home theater rigs. I actually bought the Legacy Focus for my two channel speakers after listening to many other options.
