Bulk? When I watch TV I only look at the front of the unit. What is behind could only be a problem if that one measly foot affects your viewing position or if you insist on hanging a 73-82" telly on the wall. LOL

Doesn't replacing a bulb cost like 600 bucks? And they normally go out within a 2 years?

I have had a DLP for nearly 6 years. Only one bulb replacement and that was because it was a part of a color wheel replacement. Color wheel replacements are very rare today as the companies have greatly improved them over the last 7 years or so since DLP was released. The first bulb was still good. I have been on my second bulb for over two years now and it is fine. Also, if you do a Google on replacement bulbs you'll see that they are about $150.00 on average and can last many years. It all depends on how many hours a day you have it turned on. Some people get as much as 8000 hours on one bulb. PLUS...a new bulb basically gets you right back to the way it was on day one.

Really? That simple? well that's comforting. Maybe I should just buy a ton of bulbs now and just store them for when I'd need em. As I don't like the idea of looking and waiting.

Many people do buy one to keep on hand just in case. Even though these bulbs are not your average bulb they are still made by humans and can fail at any time. It's just a matter of spending the money up front to have something sitting on a shelf waiting to be used. That part is up to you. Personally, I do not have one on hand. I figure that I can wait a few days for a new one to arrive if and when one of them goes "PoP"!

Yeah I guess that's true. I think I'll buy just 1 extra one. I really hope I like this set. I want to feel like I'm at a movie theater when watching my movies.

What size are looking to get? Are you going with the 65", 73", or 82" 738 or 838 series?

I have a 61" DLP...which I thought was big, then I went to Best Buy and they had an 82738 on display...and let me tell you the difference in size is much more than 21" diagonal because the screen is not only wider (of course) but it is also taller. I looked at the 73" they had on display and it looked fabulous also....but if you can fit the 82" somewhere, and you want to feel like you are at the theater...then let me say 82" all the way. The screen on this puppy is not just big, but it is BIG and beautiful to boot!

Or if you want to do it on your own there is no reason why (assuminng the service menu is there) there will not be posts very soon about this.

Doing it yourself has alot of advantages -namely if the bulb goes or set replaced or you MOVE your set you can recalibrate

2 questions, i'm looking to buy a wd-82738.

1. Is there any way to replace the bulb with a brighter, stronger bulb when it goes out? Some mentioned that the 82" isn't bright enough because it uses the same bulb as the 73". So can you replace the bulb with a better, brighter one?

2. I still can't seem to get the adapter thing straight. Do all the sets need an adapter for 3d, just the 2009 sets, or just the 737, 738? Basically will i need an adapter with the 82-738 or will the firmware update suffice?

Don't know about the adapter part because I don't care about 3D. But I have never seen any rear projection TV that takes more than one particular lamp for a replacement. But as I mentioned earlier the picture on the 82 was plenty bright. Think about how these sets work...the entire DLP chip is only about 1/2 inch in size. So the light source from these lamps is blindingly bright. Then the entire image is magnified and bounced off of a giant super clean mirror at the back of the set..I know because I took my 61" DLP case apart once...so going from a 73" up to an 82" shows no difference. Besides, there are two brightness/power settings for the bulb just in case you need more power.

One thing I noticed. Even in a dark room. A DLP seems to be brighter then a plasma set. AND IMO have even better overall PQ. The only thing it seems to lack is a little more detail and blacks.

Need opinion please. I have a 73" Mits and was considering the 82". I've seen the price as low as $2600 lately. Do you think it would be worth upgrading for only 9"? Anyone every upgrade from 73" to 82"? Also, is there an even bigger Mits in the works? thanks.

I think it depends a lot on what you can get for your current set and whether the price jump is worth it for you. 73" is already pretty big so i probably wouldn't spend too much to upgrade. Then again I don't own a 82" so not sure. As far as going bigger than 82" I haven't heard anything but if your happy with your 73" just wait for CEDIA or CES to hear Mitsu's 2011 line-up. You'll still be able to get the 82" for the same price in Jan. and your 73" probably won't depreciate much more over the next few months.

Question for the experts - i posted this in the 2009 thread too because I am on the fence between the 09 and 10 so i guess the question would pertain to both.

It has to do with professional calibration:

Since the DLP's use a bulb and I assume the brightness diminishes over time until it eventually pops and you need to replace the bulb, is professional calibration still recommended?

I'm getting the 82", either last years 837 or this years 738, and want a good picture. I don't know ANYTHING about calibrating but am pretty smart so I can buy a meter and disc etc. but it seems like a lot of money and time. I would rather just hire someone. But, if the calibration will just end up shifting over time than maybe i really should get a meter, disc etc and learn how to do it. I'm OK with a one time investment in someone doing the calibration but I certainly don't want to spend $250 -$350 every year. I mean if i get it calibrated and then the bulb pops 6 months later, I would need to pay someone $300 again to come out?

What are you all doing? Any suggestions

I got my own and I'm extremely happy with my choice. I had a Samsung HL67A750 "calibrated" by BB last year and they didn't do a very good job. The cost of my meter/software combination is the price of two professional calibrations and I've calibrated a half dozen displays in the last couple of months. I plan to calibrate my DLP every 6 months. It's worth it to me.

How long does it take each time you do a calibration? Do you need experience or is everything in the software? Calibrating half a dozen displays, all your own, friends, or are you actually getting into doing paid calibrations for others?

Thanks for the reply. I probably will wait and not buy the 82" yet. If I bought it I would move my 73" to my bedroom but for only a nine inch difference I can't really see spending the money. Now if there were a 20 in difference for instance then it would make more sense. Perhaps I'll wait for CES 2011. When it comes to TVs I have the space and want the biggest possible TV that is on the market, for a reasonable price. Thanks.

***Just got my New WD-65738 today =) I had a 62725 that had a bad chassis last year and then this year a bad light engine. Worked with Mitsubishi on a DEAL for the 65738.

FIrst impression...NICE!!! Alittle bright out-of-the-box, but I plan to run the AVIA disc to set it up. Even thought it's a 65", it actually looks smaller than my 62725 due to the lack of a frame around the screen.

Day 1 Impressions:
Picture is great. 1080p at 120Hz, Nice Black level,

3 HDMI ports plus 2 composite.

No Netcommand I actually kinda miss it.

StreamTV (Vudu) is kinda neat. Althought it keeps losing my facebook and twitter credentials and the weather app bombs out.

New menu system is nice and fluid.

When using with Comcast STB, the delay when switching formats is alittle long. Even when going to DVR or On Demmand.

Matching base has lots of room for all my components, including my power conditioner =)

Trying to figure it all out, but so far, I'm impressed.

WHen my light engine went on my 62725 (Out of warranty of course), the service tech told me that Mitsubishi is one of ther better companies to negotiate with. He was right. THey came through for me big time...THANKS MITSUBISHI.
