Isolated score (composer's original)

Yeah!
There goes my original SD DVD, finally!

So... technical details? Completely new 4K transfer with minimal processing? ... or DNR'ed EE-fest?

Fox has to know they need to get this one right... right? I've seen the Predator de-grained edition and it's pathetic.

Also, please give the A3 extended scenes the proper audio treatment, thanks!

The Alien 3 situation is something I am interested in.

As I understand it the "workprint" that was put out on DVD some 5 years or so ago now was different to the actual workprint that was first put together. So I don't know if certain elements couldn't be salvaged or if bits were lost or something, but there are definately bits missing.

I recall at the end of the actual working print when Bishop says "trust me", in the workprint there is a very long pause whilst Ripley agonises over her decision, then she closes the gate and says "no".

They better. Personally very little pisses me off as much as spending time and money on new extras and fluff and ignoring the actual movie.

Get it right for who? Us, the small percentage of purest or the vast majority that see wax as a vast improvement over grain?

Seems like fox is doing some things right as i´ve read they brought back actors to redo their own lines in alien 3 as the original sounds wasn´t so good. That sounds like dedication and money spent atleast

But yes i´m also worried of their DNR scrub machines as they did a really poor job on Predator but hopefully all directors was involved somehow and had to approve the transfers or something.

They better not DNR Aliens or there'll be hell to pay.

I'll put it a slightly different way; Aliens BETTER look great or there will be hell to pay.
There is NO BETTER Sci-fi/horror/action movie ever made than Aliens.

Fingers are crossed. Oh, please, please, please, please, please don't 'f' it up.

james cameron is very protective about his films. I dont think he would authorize a crappy transfer. the look of aliens is a bit grainy at times. depends on how it will look in HD.

I hope they sell them individually, I don't want to subsidize crappy 3 and 4.

Same here! But I doubt that'll happen any time soon (HOPE I'm wrong though). I've never picked up a set just to get at the one or two titles I really want and won't change that policy now regardless of how much I want I & II of this series, lol. Still waiting on Sony to friggin' bust up Spider Man just to get pt. 2. Yeah, yeah, sets can sometimes be had on the cheap or an individual flick can be found on fleabay, etc, but I'd rather just wait, no need then to give away the dumpers I didn't want or whatever - so many other things to spend time and $ on, no biggie waiting for the seperate releases of faveorite movies (for me).

Only want the first two with fantastic transfers and audio mixes (Alien: Theatrical Cut and Aliens with both cuts)!!

They better look like film or it's game over, man, game over!!
I'm really excited about this set. The first two movies are amazing, and hopefully will be done justice. I'm a HUGE Fincher and Jeunet fan, and enjoy three and four for that. I thought the "workprint" cut of three on the Quadrilogy set made the movie MUCH better, and am curious to see the result of Fox re-recording some of the actors lines.

There was someone who posted some screencaps from the DVHS tape of Alien a while back, and if the BD looks as good as that, I'll be VERY happy.

Hmm... I see what you did there

I'm excited for all of them, personally. 3 was a very intriguing film for me and Resurrection, while not the greatest of films, was still an enjoyable popcorn flick.

isn't it sad that this many years into the format we still have to pray for a competent transfer? gotta love when companies have to cater to the lowest common denominator.
I have to say that I enjoy all four movies equally, but for their own unique qualities. IMO, Alien introduced an incredible new character and universe, Aliens perfectly blended 80s machismo with the already smart characters and settings, Alien3 was a return to the original and I thought brought the trilogy to nice close - while AR was pretty much on its own.

I have DTH rips (720p/1080i) of each one and as someone else stated - if the Blu-Rays look as good as DTH, they will be worth buying.

I understand that there's always a concern about the quality of catalog releases on Blu-Ray, but Fox has gotten titles like Big Trouble In Little China, Princess Bride, Romancing The Stone and others right on; all releases that are relatively minor compared to the Alien franchise. Fox absolutely stunk in the early days, but their catalog Blu-Rays have been mostly outstanding lately. Clean film scans, no DNR, no Edge Enhancement. To top it off, Alien and Aliens are virtually guaranteed to go through a director approval process as well and I think its safe to trust Mr. Scott and Mr. Cameron.

If Paramount owned these films I'd be very worried. Fox however has earned my trust and I'll pre-order this set without concern.

Tell that to the people who put together the new "remastered" Predator.

Boo-yah to isolated scores for all films! That is one thing Fox does better than the rest.

What is it with this particular day that posters are expanding one or two poor releases onto all future releases? Phil's correct that Fox's track record has been very good as of late, and that one re-release of a cult hit and movie tie-in for a single movie has nothing to do with a completely new release of an entire series.
I fear the worst for this set, especially "Aliens". With all the raves for the "Avatar" BD, there's no way FOX will now allow "Aliens" to be released on BD looking like it does; I'd bet even Cameron would agree with it. All four movies will have been dumped into the DNR washing machine, set to "high", and I'm sure FOX didn't bother with any directors' approval.

I do hope I am wrong though. Maybe FOX did take the time and spend the money to make a true enthusiast's package rather than cheap mass-market crap.....right?
