Sorry, I misspoke. What I meant to say was that the composite bluescreen scenes were distracting. My general point still stands: The special effects shots in Aliens are superior to the ones done for Alien 3. The color is off, the shadows are off. Every time you see the alien in a scene where there wasn't a physical puppet or costume ON SET
is laughably fake, especially for 1992.
You cannot watch these films and honestly tell me that you thought the Alien in 3 looked more realistic. I was falling off the uncanny valley every time you saw one of these effects shots. The alien was quite simply obviously not present in the original scene. The shots in Alien 3 done with a puppet or costume on set were good, though.
I just got done re-watching the TC of Aliens, and at no time did I get the feeling that the Aliens were guys in costumes, and I was specifically looking for examples. The closest I came to thinking they were humans was the scene in the Queen's chamber where Ripley and Newt are flanked by two aliens guarding the eggs.
