Question: OK, here's the bottom line... how hard would it be to hack/port this EXACT functionality over to every WMC install?

What they've done for their proprietary systems -- and for integrators only -- is exactly what I and many others have been looking/waiting for... for a very long time!

Seriously, how can we make this happen? Is anyone else out there close to completion on a similar, but standalone, app or webapp for touch tablets?

I've been delaying my tablet purchase decision in order to see the new options in Q3/Q4. However, I'd suck it up and buy a gimped iPad today just for this one function alone! If only Vidabox would wise up and release a standalone version... or someone else!

It's a web-app, so something like the Vidabox version would work on any tablet with a compatible browser.

Yes, xlobby has a decent product too; but, once again, xlobby is for "professional system integrators and installers only" -- which is a kick in the pants for most of us who could easily install such a program ourselves.
