DirecTV n3D channel / VOD

Has anyone tried out the DirecTV 3D video on demand title you can download? You can queue it up here:

Menu-->On Demand-->Channels on Demand-->Browse by Channel-->1002 3DTest-->All-->CES_3D_Panasonic_C_2010

Really cool stuff to demo. I'm hoping some of the documentaries/sports will be appearing on DirecTV's upcoming n3D channel.

Movie Trailer - Avatar
Concert - Dave Matthews Band (inconcert 3D)
Documentary - some nature/ocean scenes + ballerinas (?!)
Movie Trailer - Toy Story 3
Sports - BMX, outdoor hockey, Mich vs Ohio St. football, soccer, tennis
Movie Trailer - Alice in Wonderland
Documentary - Wild Ocean

I'm using a C7000 Sammy plasma to view the material and, overall, I'm impressed.

Some of the scenes in the 1st documentary were breathtaking. The sports footage clips were short, but awesome. I'm pumped up to watch some college FB in 3D! I know we'll get some college bball and fb games in 3D this season (including the BCS title game).

As posted on other sites, the 3D VOD can't seem to be accessed by all. Not sure if it's receiver or location related. Thanks for the instructions though...hopefully it will eventually show up.

Hmmm... it shows up on HR-21 via On Demand (1002-2 3D Test Channel 2). Odd that D* is making this region-specific!
I have a HR21 also and not seeing it, must be by region.

Do you have to pay a fee for this?

The (hidden) VOD title and n3D channel are free -- the channel is scheduled to come online by the end of the month. It's going to be one of four free 3D channels (need to have HD package and H21/HR21 and above). ESPN3D started broadcasting June 11 with the World Cup.

DirecTV has the following info...

Quote:

The channels will include:
Channel 103 n3D Powered by Panasonic
Channel 104 DIRECTV Cinema in 3D (Pay Per View)
Channel 105 DIRECTV on DEMAND in 3D1
Channel 106 ESPN 3D

N3D is DIRECTV's new 24/7 3D channel powered by Panasonic. Launching in June, the channel will deliver the best 3D shows, movies and sports from AEG/AEG Digital Media, CBS, Fox Sports/FSN, Golden Boy Promotions, HDNet, MTV, NBC Universal and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.

When day does the N3D channel officially start up? I've heard at the end of the month. Then end of June or July? There are only a couple of more days in June, so if it's starting at the end of June, then I would say any day now.

D* usually makes channel additions on Wednesday. So I'll be checking my guide on June 30th!

It has to be up by July 3rd to televise the 1st 3D NASCAR race.

A chance? yes. I am in the same boat. Moar 3D please!
I hope I can at least record stuff to view after I get my Mits adapter. W/out the adapter all I see is the warning about non-compatible TV.

What a pleasant surprise. 2 channels, 103 and 104 were added in the night, and the on demand stuff is available as well on 1103 for me. My guide is populated, and I programmed my DVR. Can't wait to get home from work!!
Not exactly on topic with regards to DirecTV, but comcast seems to re-activate the "3DTV" channel they used for the masters golf tournament. They switched from the 480i plain colorbars to 1080i PLUGE colorbars, and some generic chanel listing is showing up on my TiVo.

(edit) Duh, this was already posted in the comcast topic...
I was kind of hoping these new channels would show up on their website so I could send them to my DVR...but they're not up yet.
Is no one at home watching? I was sure id get a report before I could make it home to watch. Was looking forward to it actually.

I caught 2 mins of programming before leaving for work -- it was a preview for a documentary. I liked what little I saw. Like georgeorwell mentioned, D* needs to get this channel in the online guide so we can schedule some recording remotely!

My on demand is not working for whatever reason so not sure whats in there.

Tonight at 8pm est starts some shows

You get to see about 5 sec on the IMAX PPV in 3D for free before a small banner comes up asking whether you'd like to purchase it -- weirdly, the video becomes 2D when the banner pops up. You can continue watching in 2D for longer.
