Weird issue with Pioneer 5080, screen flicker

Hi everyone,

I've owned my Pioneer PDP-5080HD since July of '07. It has worked very well since then. Recently, I've encountered a 'flicker' issue though, and I'm not quite sure how to diagnose it:

On certain sources (Blu-Ray player and XBox 360) the TV will produce a 'flicker' every so often. It looks like the screen goes black for a brief second (probably milliseconds, actually). It appears like a shutter, almost as if the TV blinked an eye-lid. I have not seen this occur with the TV antenna source. I have a Verizon cable-card hooked into the card slot of the TV.

I have the TV and the antenna cable surge protected, and there has been no physical damage to the TV, screen, or input ports. Any ideas why this could be happening? Thanks in advance.

When I had my 5080 it did the same thing. It's supposed to be related to the tv tuner somehow. I found that simply by switching to the tv tuner for a minute and then going back to the dvd, would cure the issue. I never noticed the issue while using the tv tuner. Only noticed it when I was using the tv's other inputs to watch a movie. There was supposed to be an upgrade that Pioneer of Canada was going to mail to me, but I never did receive it. I sold the tv and upgraded to a Pro-101FD.

Interesting; that must explain it. We had recently moved across the country, and I hooked up Verizon FIOS via CableCard. I've only had the issue since then. Although, when we first had the FIOS hooked up, I had been using the HD set-top box, and there was never any flicker.

Thanks for the advice, I never would have been able to connect it to the CableCard usage!

Question: I also have a Pioneer 5080, and I woke up this morning and sure enough it turned on but no picture. Light went from red to blue with the normal click but no picture. I grabbed the remote thinking it was on the wrong input but it wouldn't change inputs. I get a warning down below with a ! mark in a yellow triangle saying Plasma is warming up? Odd, but I can bring up the menu, I have no idea how to fix it, the good news is I bought the performance Warr for 60 months, so I am good to go on repairs I hope!
