New XBOX 360 250 GB "slim" wireless controller issue

Purchased new XBOX 360 from Amazon. Started having wireless controller issues form the beginning. WHile transferring data form my old HD, I lost wireless sync. I shut everything down and eventually it was able to sync again. I played a little (maybe 30 minutes). A few days went by. I started playing again and after about 15 minutes, I lost sync again. This time, nothing would resolve the issue. I tried several controllers and 5 separate rechargeable battery packs. I tried a play n charge cable and that would not work. I put my old XBOX 360 back in it's place (same location as new one) and everything works fine. I was able to play for a couple hours without any issues. I am thinking the heat caused the wireless sync controller in the new one to fail. This is going back to Amazon for a refund. Luckily I have an old IR XBOX 360 remote because I had to use that to get my data back from the new HD. If it wasn't for that all data would be lost.

What happened when you lost sync? Did the guide lights on the controller flash in an alternating diagonal pattern? When you tried to re-sync by hitting the button on the top edge of the controller and the button on the front of the 360 at the same time, what did the lights do?

They both started to spin and then then all of them when out on the console, while all 4 continued to flash on the controller. All 4 on the controller would flash on/off at the same time.

Yup. Sometimes things are defective out of the box.

OK...replacement arrived Friday. Tested it a little this weekend and it looks like everything is ok. I noticed this one is quieter than the one I had previously. The previous one also appeared to run much hotter, thus probably making the fan run harder/faster. I bet heat killed the wireless in the other one. Probably would have killed the whole thing if I was able to play for a prolonged period of time.
