I haven't yet. I'll probably pick it up next week (payday). I keep thinking of all the reasons why I never wanted a 360 and then for me to pick up PS+ that has a couple less features than what the 360 offers seems hypocritical on my part. PS+ has yet to make me an offer that I simply cannot afford to refuse.

Well since PS+ turns your wallet into an auto-transfer for funding (PS+ is an autorenewal), I went back and turned that portion off since it said I could. I wonder it turning off the auto-transfer that my "+" goes away. I'll turn it back on around 6 tonight. Let me know if you see it. I better get my Yellow Badge of honor so help me...LOL

With auto-renewal, will I still be able to pay for PS+ by adding funds to my wallet via a $50 PSN card purchase? I prefer not to keep a permanent credit card number in my PSN account.
post #126 of 1064
i took my billing info off. where do you find the option for auto transfer/renewal and such?

I suspect so. But to be safe I would just keep a minimum of $50 in the account so when PS+ rolls around, it won't have to look for funds anywhere.

It's under the transaction management section. Should be obvious once you get in there.

A couple of things that are more relevant than "Fifty dollas?!? Sony is trying too robb me blinde!!!1 Whine!!!one":

- You can have PSN+ with no credit card information attached to the account. Everything I purchase PSN, or Live, is all through store bought PSN cards, with credit card info never being attached to the account. With PSN, I have to remember to not float my normal ~$75 on the account though, as it will auto-renew the 12-month subscription if the funds are available. I am interested to see if it will auto-renew my subscription at 3-month rate if I have $20-49 floating in the account. That would be annoying.

- I picked up the disc version of Infamous a couple weeks ago and have spent the last week playing it, finishing it Thursday night. Today I downloaded the PSN+ version, just for curiosity sake. Riding the train rails around the city, I can see that pop-in and loading is about the same. I'm guessing that the normal game's 1.3GB install consists mostly of the city models and textures. Maybe on a game without a large install, the load times and pop-in will be reduced.

- The PSN+ version of Infamous is smart enough to know that it is on the hard drive. As such, it doesn't require the install file. Frankly I am surprised by this.

- If you go to Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List > Playstation Plus > Playstation Plus: Package, then you can select Cancel Automatic Renewal. In the description of PSN+ upon purchase, the text made it sound as if auto-renewal was the only option. It is nice to see that you can kill it with a bit of digging.

Again, I bought this for the Steam-like auto-patching, as the normal PS3 patching system is unbelievably retarded. Anything else that PSN+ offers is a bonus. It is nice to see that retail disc games are going to be a downloadable focus though. Discs are a little 1985 for my tastes.
post #130 of 1064
Okay. Has anyone had the auto-patching system actually, you know, work? I grabbed Wipeout HD the day PSN+ came out. I even installed it that day. I did not play it though. Today, some handful of days later I went to play Wipeout HD. What then wanted to download three patches totaling 140MB before I was allowed to play the game? Yeah.

I guess I'll go delete my Heavy Rain patches and check in a couple of days if it got patched when I wasn't looking. Maybe they designed the system to only work for disc games, or for games that you have a save file for. I seems like a pretty damn big oversight if the auto-patcher ignores new games that you download, given that they like selling PSN titles, and apparently now want to also sell disc titles over the network.

Even when you pay for Sony's patching system, they still insist on making it retarded!
post #131 of 1064
does the auto updating for games work?
post #132 of 1064
The way the auto-updating works:

Sony puts out patches and what not to auto-update. Therefore, if you have games like Red Dead Redemption or BFBC2 and there are new patches, unless it's part of Sony's package, you'll still need to boot the game for those new patches.

More reasons why I'm not sold on PS+.
post #133 of 1064
I'm kinda with you on that, I have yet to see something offered that I absolutly want.
post #134 of 1064
sony needs to include every game (hard drive or disc) in the auto update feature. i feel ripped off.
post #135 of 1064
They might eventually, but it might not be easy. I don't think the system does a full power on when it updates (I am always asleep when it updates though, so no idea), so it would have to read the disc to know what game it is to update. Again, not sure if this is why it doesn't do it yet or not, but obviously it would be very nice if it updated disc-based games automatically also.
post #136 of 1064
Actually, from what I have seen as you can set the update period for the exact time that you are on, and when you turn off the PS3, it will stay on and Auto-update.

From what I have seen, it updated a few of my games and when I powered on, it actually told me which games where updated.

The wierd thing is it only updated the games that I tried seeing if there was an update before I powered off. The other games I haven't played in a while did not get update.

Specifically, Socom seemed to have gotten updated.

Will test more.
post #137 of 1064
So maybe only the stuff that you play post 3.40 update, auto-update? This still has the same old effect of having to wait terrible amounts of time the first time you start up a downloaded game. I'm used to Steam always taking care of everything automatically in the background before I even care, and Xbox Live with it's super-fast 4MB patch cap. This PSN+ auto-patching is turning out to be some seriously disappointing fail. In short, it looks like it only works at times that I don't ever care if it works.
post #138 of 1064
Maybe we should list games that seem to auto-patch.

So far the only game that I can confirm 100% are:

Cuboid
Mahjong
post #139 of 1064
or sony should provide us a list of supported games next time they promote their half@$$ features.
post #140 of 1064
Either Warhawk or Wipeout auto-updated on mine... don't remember which.
post #141 of 1064
Wipeout auto patched for me. I started it first and it said their was an update available. I pressd O for no and played the game with no problem. I trned the system off at night and slept. When I turned the PS3 on in the morning it said the following games were auto-updated - wipeout hd.
post #142 of 1064
Do we know when the new PS+ monthly offers come out? Since today is the first Tuesday in July...is it today?

Has anybody tried starting a disc based game that needed a patch and then not patching it then to see if it will download that update? I might try this with my copy of SFIV I haven't updated in forever or something.

Holy crap is Qore a terrible product.

PS+ updates on the PSN this week:

Quote:
Qore - Free
Episode 26

Minis - Free
Fieldrunners

Discounts - 50% off
Super Stardust HD - Now $5
Super Stardust HD Team Addon - Now $2.50
Super Stardust HD Solo Addon - Now $2.50

Avatars - Free
MAG 'Raven'
MAG 'SVER'
MAG 'Valor'

Themes - Free
King Zumo Theme

Not bad if they really are adding stuff weekly to PS+ members. Couple that with the fact that it's confirmed that all PS3 users will have access to Hulu+ (after the initial PS+ preview period) and it's been a decent launch for the service.

~~~
EDIT: After doing the math I bit the bullet and signed up for PS+. Now that it seems like we'll get content and offers more often than once a month, it is something I think will pay for itself. I'm not even all that interested in some of the popular features like auto-patching, but it's nice to have I suppose. For me it comes down to cost savings more than anything, and perhaps a few cool betas.
It costs $3.33 a month, and by signing up I instantly saved on purchases I was going to make regardless. I'm already ahead of this month's savings quota: the Hamsterball discount, the free MahJong DLC and the Fat Princess DLC discount. I figure with other stuff down the line I'll come out ahead over the 15 months. If not, I won't sign up next time.
Also, I honestly don't mind supporting a decent service in part because Sony has not charged us to play games online, which is a concept I hate on principal alone. I like that my entire gaming catalog won't be ruined by not signing up again. Yes, I may lose access to a few "free" games (I can simply by them individually if that happens), but I'm not forced to subscribe to PS+ year after year with the threat of losing access to a major function of most of my entire library.
Guess I'm finally picking up SSHD!
It's bad, sure, but it was/is a means to an end for some Betas and perks for the subscribers. Now it's included in PS+. I never thought it was worth the $25 on it's own. But as part of PS+ maybe. I did find it amusing that Plus access to the Qore episodes after the fact is tied to your PS+ subscription renewal. With a Qore annual sub on it's own, the episodes never expire, but then again why would you keep them or re-download them in the first place.
post #150 of 1064
I hopped on the bandwagon the other day- I figure I'll give them a year to wow me with this feature. So far so good.
I'm thinking the "big" free stuff, like free PSN and Classic titles, are gonna be a once a month thing. The rest is probably once a week, but we'll see once the new wears off.
