PlayStation Plus (one sub supports Vita / PS3 / PS4) - Page 28

I was thinking about rather I should renew right away or not since my subscription is just about up and the 3 extra months was already enticing me. With these new games, plus the $10 credit that Sony recently gave plus $10 more credit after you spend $50, I guess I'd be crazy not to get it today. That's essentially $30 for 15 months of Plus if everything goes as planned.

What was the deal with people getting $10 credits recently? Was this because of a prior promotion similar to what they're doing now with 'spend $50, get $10 back'?

This was given to a ton of people right before the unveiling of the PS4. Partly to get people to watch the show. For anyone who didn't get it, it's best to check both the PS3's in-boxes and your email. It appears that some people might have gotten it late.

And I bought Spec Ops over the holidays for $20; I didn't think I'd see a better price than that anytime soon, but here it is. (I know this is a common refrain amount PS+ subscribers, but I only recently became one when they added their Vita offerings.)

It's nice to see The Cave as a free game; I was curious about that one, but had been holding out for a price drop.

lol, Still haven't started the past freebies like Darksider and Vanquish. Now Spec ops and the cave,.....
Tomb Raider coming out today and GOW Ascension next week,....not enough time.

Loved Joe Danger, didn't even realize there was a 2 smile.gif

Hooray.

Seems like a strong lineup of games I have no interest in playing. tongue.gif

Hopefully the discounts keep on coming.

I hope/wish Tomb Raider will be available to purchase in the PSN store. Doesn't look like it.

Tomb Raider Out Today: The Long and Winding Road
+ Posted by Karl Stewart // Global Brand Director, Crystal Dynamics

Crystal Dynamics – where the Tomb Raider team works – can be found in a complex at the end of a long road in Redwood City in San Francisco. Without laboring the comparison, Tomb Raider’s journey from inception to being in stores today has some similarities. You exit a freeway – in our case the conventional expectations of what Tomb Raider should be, you negotiate a lengthy curve (securing support for a bold new direction), negotiate through the stop signs of constant testing and second guessing before finally enjoying what appears to be a smooth home stretch.

Here’s where my comparison breaks down however. While the Crystal team has learned to watch their velocity on approach to avoid speed tickets, Tomb Raider on the other hand has hit the gas and enjoyed a breakneck ride in the past few months to launch. It’s a clichéd term but it truly has been a rollercoaster ride for the team – an unforgettable one – to get to this point.
There’s a reason why we have been using the hashtag #Reborn to accompany all our discussion of Tomb Raider at launch. It truly does represent a new beginning for one of gaming’s most beloved franchises and protagonists. We wanted to make Lara Croft a real, relatable person – prone to the doubts and setbacks we all occasionally experience. What truly sets Lara aside from the average Joe on the street isn’t her biceps, her appearance or what firearm she carries – it’s force of will. Absolute power is compelling in theory but boring in execution – especially in a game. Will to power – or more accurately in Lara’s case, will to live – is the distinction we celebrate with in Tomb Raider.

Under the watchful eyes of the Tomb Raider community we’ve created an experience that tells a truly gripping origin story for Lara Croft, while including best of class combat, an elegant control system that makes traversal second nature, and a living breathing island setting that is not only gorgeous to look at, but perilous at every turn. We didn’t forget about exploration either – with tomb raiding being important both in the game’s critical path as well as forming one of the integral parts of multitudes of diversions on offer. But I’ll let you discover that for yourself.
It’s been my privilege to work alongside a truly dedicated and committed team at Crystal Dynamics. There’s an awe-inspiring level of passion that has gone into crafting this game from our home team as well as our valued colleagues at Eidos Montreal, who worked on the game’s multiplayer. So many people have been integral in the game reaching stores, however, it would be remiss of me not to draw attention to our head of studio, Darrell Gallagher, who has driven the game and pushed the Crystal team from day one to deliver something truly special.
Revisiting my analogy up top: Tomb Raider may have reached its destination, but by no means is it the end of the road. As any Crystal staffer can tell you – the road doesn’t end at Crystal – it loops all the way around. The final verdict on whether we’ve succeeded is a more personal one – but the early indications are we might have struck the right chord. The Tomb Raider community would expect no less from us than absolute commitment to excellence, and neither would we as a studio tolerate less.

In addition to all of this, I am delighted to announce that Tomb Raider is a day 1 download on PSN — you’ll be able to grab it as soon as PlayStation Store updates today.

I sincerely hope you enjoy your time with Tomb Raider. Let us know what you think – we’ll be listening.

What's everyone's experiences downloading the 1 hour full game demos?

I downloaded Battlefield 3 the other day to see if I would like it. This was my first time trying one of these & I hate to say, probably my last. I have a 10 Mbps connection and it was still a long download. In fact I let it download over night. The thing that really drove me nuts is when I first wanted to play it. Of course an 'update' was required. Another huge download. I don't pay a lot of attention to PS Plus news and am most likely ignorant, but I thought this was part of the reason to have it in the first place. Automatic, behind the scenes downloads of updates?

Regardless, it wasn't nearly worth the time invested, to only get one hours' play time.

Yeah, those updates can be a bit crazy. One of my friends finally grabbed a PS3 that came with plus, and he was going crazy just waiting for Ratchet and Clank All 4 One to grab all 7 of the updates. I have no idea why they can't just put the updated version of games and demos out and save you a couple minutes or 30.

"but I thought this was part of the reason to have it in the first place. Automatic, behind the scenes downloads of updates?"

Only on games that you have played. You hadn't played BF3 yet, so Sony figured that obviously you have no interest in having it updated. The result is that on new games that you buy, download, then let sit on your hard drive for a month with Plus active, it still has to update the first time you go and play the title.

Pretty dumb, huh? It's one of the many, many areas that this console is lacking in elegance of design. The silly thing of course is that Sony is trying to sell us the PS4 entirely on the idea that it's OS and services will be elegant and well-designed, with a very poor track record of such.

Right now, I don't have plus currently, and I'm looking for that "key" game that will get me to jump back on it. Both of my kids got 3 month passes for Xmas, and they were trying Vita games out, but the passes recently expired. They weren't playing them all that much and they didn't even ask me about renewing it, so I just let it expire. I would probably sign at least one of them back up for a 1 year plan, but only when they add a couple of more key games. I'd really prefer a couple more strong Vita games. Rayman Origins and Hot Shots Golf would be a one, two combo that would get be back on board.

As for PS3 games, honestly, there really isn't much that I'm really dying to play. Journey would be a cool free game to play. I'm not sure I'd jump back on Plus just for Journey, but it would make me consider it...

How about LBP2. It looks like a fun game especially for kids and families. I am waiting for a Vita price drop or a newer model, I'm not sure how much I'd play it though.

If you're a Vita owner, you'd have always been on that bandwagon. Mortal Kombat, Metal Gear, etc.

That's pretty awesome, assuming they actually have a decent movie on selection each week.

I've been a PS+ subscriber since just about day one, and I can safely say I've never regretted it.

Here are the details from the PS Blog: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/04/02/epix-brings-movies-concerts-comedy-to-psn-today/

I'll be interested to see if my cable provider enables me access to this app. I have EPIX as part of my cable subscription, but at one point they (Cox Cable San Diego) started blocking my access on the Roku EPIX app. It will also be interesting to see the streams in HD (there weren't any in HD on the Roku, but still pretty decent quality).

Regardless, it won't really benefit me since I already have EPIX and EPIX On Demand via my cable box connected to the same TV as my PS3 (though the selection through the EPIX app is much greater). And all the same movies are also available on Netflix streaming, which I currently have.
