(lets not get crazy. You can pickup games for $2 on steam. I just picked up Far Cry 2 and all DLC for $2)

But yes, PS+ is pretty nice.

While I have enjoyed some great stuff on my Steam account for cheap, for me my point still stands since the price for PS+ (especially with the PS+ subscription promos) covers more than a single deal.

It's also great to drop the cash once a year (often getting bonus months) and know that I have great content coming in a steady stream. I've never run out of stuff to play in a while.

24th April: Thomas Was Alone

Though I wouldn't mind Okami or LOTR, we already got The Cave, Demon Souls trumps LOTR as an RPG, and Zombie Tycoon II will be a brand new release. And I don't really have an opinion on Vita related stuff, though I hear some Vita owner say they think US gets better Vita titles than EU.

LOTR is buggy and annoying. Bought the game, holds a single save, decided to corrupt 3/4 of the way through the second difficulty and I didn't realize it until after that one had already backed up to the cloud frown.gif

I just played through Spec Ops: The Line over the weekend. A really well done story to go with the shooting. Worth grabbing before it comes down.

Eh, looking at the stuff coming in April in regards to PS+, nothing that's going to tempt me back onto the bandwagon. The initial burst of Vita games was realy nice when plus first started on the Vita, but since then it's been slim pickins except for some small indy games and a few PSP games.

I had sold off all of our physical games back when they got plus, thinking that we'd just go plus all the way, and no need to have all those physical games, but now I'm kinda wishing I had a bunch of those games back. I mean, when Plus first started it had Wipeout and Uncharted, two games that we had, so I sold both of those. I also had Hot Shots Golf and ModNation, and I decided to sell those guys real fast, because I figured that since they were Sony games, they would eventually end up on plus, and better to get rid of them before that happens.

I might have to hop back on the physical game bandwagon until I see some more tempting Vita games pop onto the service.

I'm kinda in a wait and see mode as well, because of the whole PS4 thing. Has Sony made any official comments on PS+ in relation to PS4 ? The day the PS4 is available, I'll be all-in on the PS4. Freebies that are coming for the PS3 at that point won't interest me in the least. PS+ will only have value to me then, if they have good Vita and PS4 games coming on a frequent basis. Problem is, I just can't see Sony giving away brand new PS4 games in the beginning. It could be months and months and months before they offer anything PS4 related, and I'm willing to bet the house that all the initial PS4 stuff will be smaller indy type games, and I'm not talking about games like "The Witness". I'm talking much, much smaller...

I'm tempted to agree completely with that except for the fact Sony has been all about making a big splash with Plus...and they certainly want to sway anyone thinking about the 720. I wouldn't be surprised if they offered one or two full retail PS4 titles on Plus with the launch of the PS4 (Second Son, KZ Shadow Fall, and/or Knack) along with a couple smaller titles. And then the best bundle deal for the PS4 will include 1, 3, or 12 months of Plus.

(Now that I've posted that, I realize I may have said something similar in this or another thread.)

I gotta disagree with you. I can't remember the last time they gave out new games for free. It's all older games, so I seriously doubt they would give away a new game around launch for ps4.

But they give out new games as part of console bundles, so I'm thinking in lieu of a PS4 bundle with a physical copy of a new game ... who am I kidding, the launch bundle will probably be ACIV.
Did this generation of consoles launch with games bundled? I don't remember that being the case, but I could be wrong. Either way, while plus is nice, they aren't giving you brand new full games (not psn titles) for free or heavily discounted. It is a nice service, but it's not like we are getting Bioshock anytime soon. Most of the games are pretty old and can be had for $10 if you search for them.
It's been a very long time since a system was released with a game packed inside. I think the Nintendo Wii, with Wii Sports was the last time that happened. If you forget about the Wii, then you have to go all the way back to the Sega CD, which came packed with a few games.

PS+ is going to be a bit of a catch-22 situation for Sony in regards to the PS4. PS+ came along when the PS3 was already mature and had a large back catalog of games that they could pick thru to give out a few freebies here and there. It's hard for me to imagine Sony giving away a full fledged PS4 game to plus users right at the beginning. I don't think there is the slightest chance that something like Killzone or Second Son would be made available on this service. They want to sell as many $59.99 (or $69.99 ? ) copies of those games as they possibly can.

It was equally hard for me to imagine that they'd give away nearly every awesome vita game 6 months in either though. And cause of that, I bought a vita, and continue to buy games for it that arent even on plus. There's a lot of upside for them to give you a game with plus at launch - it gets you to sign up for PSN, add your credit card, and rope you in to a service that will feed them a constant stream of revenue. Getting free games and discounts on plus is really sticky - once you get a taste of it, you're not going to want to leave and it ties you in and keeps you buying PS games. It also opens people's eyes to how convenient it will be to acquire full games digitally, and to consider the Vita.

There's nothing stopping them from offering a selection of games and letting you choose one. Even if its just a one month trial - they hook you with one good MP game, and one month later, they're getting $50 bucks from you either way if you want to keep playing it. The downside of losing a potential game sale pales in comparison to the potential upside of a loyal customer.

The Wii U had a ZombieU bundle at launch in Europe, and in North American shortly afterwards, so it's not impossible. And as bd2003 noted, getting a new buyer to subscribe to PS+ would probably pay off in the long run.

I could see them doing those 1 hour trial things. Where you play the first hour of Killzone or Second Son, or whatever. I think there is a slight chance that something like Knack could be given to the Plus users. Still, I don't think anything significant will be on there, until after it's been available for at least 90 days at retail first. So, if Knack is a retail release, you're not going to see that on Plus in the first 90 days of it's availability. If not longer.

Everybody is talking about how Sony seems so willing to work with the Indy community right now, and I think that maybe part of that, is that the indy community is providing them will lots of little freebies that can be given away here and there. They are going to need those little freebies for the early days of the PS4, because I just don't see them giving away their big retail releases, until they have sold just about all they are going to sell at retail. Put it this way, if you think you're going to get anything of any real significance on PS4 for free before say late February 2014, I think you're kidding yourself. (again, I've already stated that Sony "might" throw out one bone like Knack or something similar, but that's it)
I can envision a slew of free games for PS4 people that hook up to the "cloud."

No inet ? Tough luck.
It's going to be a highly competitive environment this fall if both the PS4 and 720 are releasing right before the holidays. Assuming that all things are more or less equal on the hardware side (i.e., no huge differences of the order something like a blu-ray drive provided this generation), Plus is Sony's biggest advantage over Xbox, assuming MS doesn't role out something similar. I don't think they can really push Plus with the PS4's release without offering compelling content specifically for the PS4 upfront -- 3-4 months later completely misses the holiday buying season (note that the great Vita Plus offerings occurred during holiday time), and a couple of small/indy titles no one has heard of is going to cut it, unless it's Journey 2 or The Walking Dead 2.

Yeah, I can see it both ways. They'd rather have you buy games AND sign up for plus on top of it.

Still though, the one thing Im sure of is that they're gonna push plus in some form out of the box. But a 30-90 day trial is meaningless if there's not actually something representative of the service on there - that means free games and discounts. Maybe its indie and smaller games, but that doesn't fully represent what plus is. It def wont be PS3 games without BC. Whatever it is, it needs to be substantial enough to sell people on an subscription, purely on what it has to offer for the PS4.

Plus can of course take on an entirely new form with PS4, so anything is on the table.

Some PS+ ideas until the PS4 ball gets rolling:

- Discounts on new digital titles
- Free DLC for new titles
- Free, new idie games
- Full access to Gaikai streaming content
- Discounts on new media service subscriptions (like what we got for Music Unlimited)

This month's update is paticularly awesome with free downloads for members:

- Sleeping Dogs (PS3)
- Pinball Arcade (PS3 / Vita)
- Knytt Underground (PS3 / Vita)
- BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend (Vita)

I can't speak to the second two, but I've played and thoroughly enjoyed Sleeping Dogs and Pinball Arcade. Infact, the pinball game is probably my second most played PS3 title of all-time. A great update.

This has been rumored for the past week, but until I see it posted on the PS Blog, I won't start making room for any of it on my HDD.tongue.gif

I just hope we finally see a sale on Pinball Arcade DLC tables as well.

It's mentioned in the official PlayStation blogcast. However, I made a mistake in that these are the free offerings spread out over the month like usual, not given out in a week.

Yeah, Sleeping Dogs was the most fun I had with an open world game since GTA: Vice City. It's a really, really fun game. All of the different play mechanics hit the mark, and the story was pretty interesting to follow.

That's official enough for me.

Sleeping Dogs is one of those games that would have never been on my radar if not for Plus. But after doing some research since hearing the rumors, I'm excited about playing it.

Yeah I heard good things about this game. It's good if we get it, not problem if it's not that Tuesday, I can wait.

Well here's the update from the PS Blog:
Quote:
Leaving PS Plus In May

May 7th – Demon’s Souls
May 14th – Mega Man 9 & 10 Combo Pack
May 21st – Tekken 6 PSP
May 21st – Darksiders
May 28th – Zombie Tycoon 2

Entering PS Plus in May(in no particular order)

Sleeping Dogs (PS3)
Knytt Underground (PS3, PS Vita – Cross Buy Enabled)
Germinator (PS Vita)
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND (PS Vita)
Pinball Arcade (PS3)

Sleeping Dogs is the free game for this week (with tomorrow's Store update).

Looks like a great month for Vita owners especially, given that Pinball Arcade is also crossbuy.
I am happy that Pinball Arcade is the cross buy version because I don't have a PS3. I've also been considering BlazBlue and Knytt Underground for a while. Not sure about Germinator, but I'll get it an extended shot (the demo didn't do it for me.)
