I feel the same way. Unless it's a AAA title high on my wish list, I'd rather play games I deemed worth spending money on than sinking a lot of time into a game I would have never considered playing (e.g., Darksiders, Sleeping Dogs) if it weren't free.
PSN titles on the other hand provide a nice break between long RPG campaigns, they are quick to download, and don't hog up a lot of space on my smallish HDD if I don't get around to them right away.
As far as the grass is greener concerns (i.e., EU gets better stuff), I say, so what? EU is EU. Sony never promised every region would get the same stuff. Be thankful you're not in Asia. I hear the selection is even worse there, although that might be more of a matter of taste and cultural differences.
At any rate, I don't feel I'm getting less value from my Plus membership. If I really wanted what EU is getting, I'd sign up for an EU Plus membership.
