So I just bought a new subwoofer, and I though to myself... What better way to test out a sub than buy playing some Metal Gear Solid 4.
Well I got about 10-15 minutes in and pew pew my game froze. At first I thought it might have been a dirty disk, so I cleaned it. Tried again same issue.
I tried a blu-ray movie, same issue played for 10-15 minutes that froze. OH NO!
Everything I have tried has froze.
I did some searching and it seems like it is a laser issue, I have fully cleaned the laser with some lens cleaner, and tested the motor, still the issue.
Than I read that it could be an overheating issue, I took apart the PS3 and completely cleaned the little guy out with some compressed air, cleaned and reapplied some ceramic thermal paste. Power it on, and why it is quieter and seems to run cooler... still freezing.
I'm led to believe that the laser is past its prime and ready to completely die. I have been looking around and the laser I need is hard to find, I have the original 60gb system, so I would rather fix it than buy a new one. (Love backwards compatibility)...
So, should I try to fix it (75 dollars for the laser) Or splurge and buy a new one.
I am a PC repair tech, and have plenty of soldering experience so repairing it is not hard for me, just not sure if its worth the trouble if it ends up being something else...
