In Canada, at least in Quebec, this is not allowed and is called false avertisement.

When advertising a product, you need to have suffisant stock for the demand or else you have to write that quantities are limited and you also have to specify a minimum number of unit per store when you do so.

Yea, it was pretty rare that a Fry's would have one in stock but it wasn't a scam. Some people did get them at that 1500 price point and a couple Fry's were giving out rain checks (sounds like this was hit or miss). I think delivery on some extra units was reported to be for Dec. 2nd.

I actually was lucky and was able to get a rain check for that exact price, whether or not I'm able to get the unit once they are delivered to my Fry's is another matter. Will just have to keep fingers crossed. I don't particularly need a new TV but at that price, this should be a good upgrade from the 5 year old 42" Panasonic Viera I'm using.

I was at Frys looking at getting the kdl-46hx800 that morning (which they had at a great price). When I asked the sales associate if they had any other deals that had a larger tv, he pointed to the this set and said "Don't really know if its good but its on sale?" I texted my wife and told her I'd be comming home with 52" tv instead of the 46" tv. They had 4 in stock that day and while I was there another guy came in to pick one up. It's sitting in the garage waiting to be unpacked. Not sure if I am keeping it as I have 50" Panasonic plasma that I have had for about 2.5yrs, but with no restocking fee, I felt it was worth the risk buying it.

Has anyone else noticed clouding on this TV on a blank screen with local dimming off?

I see three distinct clouds and some more small ones with backlight set to MIN and local dimming off. Ofcourse it all disappears and screen goes pitch black when I turn ON local dimmining, but thats just because all the LED switch off on blank screen (no input signal).

Is this a problem with how this TV diffuses the back light? I would have expected that when local dimming was off, while I would have seen an illuminated screen (and not perfect black), it would still have been uniform illumination and not patches of clouds.

Can other owners please let me know what there experience has been with cloudiness on this set?

Another question, how do we find the right white balance for this TV? Do we need special tool and stuff?

Thanks!

Yes, I notice it when watching 3D. In 3D mode, LED Dynamic Control is not an option; by default, it's turned off.

I recently posted that I don't understand the rationale behind this. Besides, this is one of the penultimate features of this TV. Why not allow the option in 3D?

I think it is because the processors in the TV are not powerful enough....the dynamic LED backlight some times even can not catch up with normal 2D content (according to some folks in the AVforum)....

I have noticed it in "photo" mode also. I don't know if local dimming is off in "photo" mode.

Yes, you need special tools and software. Best to get a professional to calibrate your set for you. Each particular set will require its own specific settings to get this right, so it's no use copying the colour balance settings from someone else's set, even if it's the same model as yours.

Thanks guys. I guess the way to go is to get this set calibrated. But before I spend $$$ on this, I had a quick question:
On my HX909, I see that white areas (bulbs, light sources, window on a bright day etc.) in the picture appear too bright and seem to have less sharp edges, almost seems like the whiteness is bleeding into the surrounding areas. Also, if the picture has both bright and dim areas like inside shot from a room with a window opening to a bright day outside, I will see lots of detail of inside the room but just a white shiny area for outside with no detail.
Is this a white balance problem, and something that calibration would resolve completely?

I know a store that has the 52HX909 for $1,999 with a two week back order.

Is it possible to hook up a wireless keyboard to the XBR909? If so, which one?
I kind of thought that macmall looked a bit sketchy; no? Them and pcmall and onsale.com are all the same company. Any thoughts?

As for the store selling it for $1999 did you mean the 46inch or 52 inch?

52", I am debating taking back a 58v25, any opinions?

Question, went to my local Bestbuy at lunch time to look closer at the 52HX909 and the Sharp 52LE920UN.

On the Sony, on fast moving screens, I kept seeing lots of artifacts. Like squares in the picture that would not turn to the proper picture fast enough. When I checked out the motion flor was set, it was set to Clear 1 and Dynamic led was low. I tried switching the different motionflow setting without being able to get rid of it (didn't turned it off). Only the Hx909 and the EX710 (2 sony Tvs) were showing this problem. They had the NX810 close by and no signs of this issue.

I was wondering if this was something experienced by some owners as well.

Are you returning a VT25 for HX909? I thought VT25 had much better PQ, and unless buying a plasma is not feasible for you, VT25 is the way to go.. isn't it?

Unless you are part of the 15% of the population who see flickering in the plasma or you are in a very bright invenronement, the plasma would have great PQ, one of the best, espicially the VT25 and be a lot cheaper as well.

He would also give up 6" in the process...

No problems with my order. If you check Sony's site, PC Mall is an authorized dealer.
Yeah unfortunately they also charge tax and shipping to every state they ship and they just raised their price to $2400. At that rate I could just buy the standard $3149 everyone is charging and get a 3D package plus PS3 w/ free shipping and no tax, or get it local. Looks like I may be getting the nx810 unless this price drops before xmas

The V25 is great, but there is a smoothness to LCD that I like.

I am also a prod owner of the 52-hx903 LOL!! But my panel seams to have a very green tone in the lighter areas that you were taking about in your post!! In fact so much so that when I had the guy out from the Sony centre he seen it straight away!
He also saw it in the shop with another panel. I have took to turning down G gain to try to resolve this problem (while this does help the problem a bit) it does not take it away. If you set you standard mode and custom mode up in the same picture settings
Then on one of the settings ether standard or custom go into your white balance and turn G gain & G bais down about 4 or 5 (this mite seem a bit red/ purple) but then flick from standard to custom & back and you will see what I mean.

The green in the image is way out of sync. The problem is the local dimming!! If you turn it off the problem goes away but you are left with very poor black leaves. I would like to keep this tv as it good in almost every other aspect but I don't think this can be fixed with a calibration disc alone (although I haven't got one to test this out) I think you will need to dig around in the service menu. If I knew how to get into this I would but I'm finding it hard to track down the code. But I believe there is more white balance controls in there then you can access in thee normal picture menu (peck illumination and peck blacks ) invasively I hope this is some help to you. If you or anyone here can find out how to access the service menu I will go in and see if I can fix the problem??

Many Thanks

I was finally able to setup my new tv this weekend and must say that the picture is great looking directly at the tv. However, the off-axis view is pretty bad. It's as if there is a white cloud on half the screen opposite of the side I am sitting on. Is there any way to minimize this in the picture settings that anyone has done? Has anyone compared this the the NX810 series and is that series better for off-axis viewing?

i am afraid too....haven't gotten one yet...
if there is such a bad view angles just like xbr4 whats the point to even calibrate it? it will never be accurate no matter how you calibrate or how dim the room is.

i have a xbr4 and it sucks. it isn't a great tv because you ALWAYS have distorted color at one side of the screen. so i never tried to calibrate it... and hx909 really has to be alot better, so there is reason to upgrade

I never compared both but one could assume the HX909 is suppose to be a bit better with off-axis viewing since the hx909 uses a Sharp panel while the nx810 uses a Samsung.

But off-axis view issues seems more pronounce as you get Tv with darker black. It's just so easier to see the contrast changes when viewing the TV from an angle.

BTW, any recent owner can comment on playing videogames on this TV and in there is any noticeable input lag in game scene?

I have only been able to play some Madden 09 and did not notice any problems, but I'll have to wait to see if any of my FPS games have any issue. I did set the scene to game mode and a I run my PS3 and Xbox through my Onkyo TX-NR906.

I find my off-axis viewing to be near-perfect unless the angle is extreme so long as you're at or below the level of the tv. If you get even slightly above the tv, the clouding from the local dimming feature becomes extremely noticeable.

Overall, I'm very happy with how it looks.
