hdmi question

Thread Starter
I was thinking about buying a new blue ray player that also plays sacd.(sony370s) Will a regular hdmi cable read the sacd layer or do I have to buy a special cable.
I have been running all analog with the old system. So looks like the new generation sacd will be with hdmi.Looks like I hafta dump some good equipment to go digital ince my old player is taking a crap on me.

Any HDMI cable will do. I am currently using a Van den Hul flat 180 ($175/M)on one player and a $6 Monoprice on another. Both work fine.

What does this tell you?

Only $175/meter? It tells me that he buys cheap cables.

Here's an HDMI cable for $1000/meter:

It has, like, better HDMIs and electros, which results in faster Gigawonkers or something.

On a related note, I guess HD-DVD has so thoroughly died that people think the dual-format area is for BD/SACD players.

Goes without saying, imho. OTOH, since most of these also play DVD, CD and, some, DVD-A, they are often referred to as "universal" players, HD-DVD notwithstanding.

I was thinking this also. I kept asking myself why some of these new threads are in this section?

I think part of the confusion is the out-dated thread title "Dual Format Players" and the outdated description beneath the thread title. I would re-title the thread "HD DVD / Blu-ray Combo Players" with the HD DVD part of the title first, so that it goes alphabetically in that section of the listing. The key reason people still have these players is the HD DVD functionality as well as BD, but someone with a general blu-ray question will not go looking for the HD DVD section. Anyone agree?
