Sub composite video output to componet input

Thread Starter
I own a couple of Velodyne DD15's. For calibration they require a composite or s-video connection to display their calibration menu.

My Monitor only has component and HDMI inputs and my processor will not convert the composite signal.

My question is can I connect the composite output from the sub to the green RCA component input? Someone told me that this would give me a black and white picture (sub menu is black and white) and allow me to operate the sub's calibration menu.

What are my other options? I don't want to spend a lot of money on a converter for this application.

Anyone have ideas on how to do this simply and cheaply.

Thanks

It worked when I tried it. The Y input is just the luminance and sync signals, the equivalent of a black and white composite signal. Give it a try..

Don't be surprised if there is some noise in the picture. That is the result of the chroma information in the composite signal being fed into a circuit that doesn't expect it.

I use a half broken portable automobile DVD player for a menu screen. (the 1/2 broken part, it won't play DVDs anymore)
