Who has the weakest HD radio station?

I nominate 97.1 The River in Atlanta. I have driven all over the city and it still goes in and out no matter where I am.

AM or FM?

KUKN-FM in Longview, WA whos ERP is only 700 watts runs HD. They broadcast the HD-2 on a local FM translator for KUKN.

W212BA is a translator running HD @ 50watts (technically 48 watts).

Yup, 480 milliwatts of HD.

If you listen to 97.1, then you probably don't listen to 95.5 The Beat ... but their analog signal is very weak in much of metro Atlanta and probably their HD version as well. But 97.1 HD signal is very strong up I-85 north from Atlanta well into SC. Also strong are Q-100 and Star 94 but their HD does not go as far north as the River.

Excluding FM translators and boosters, I know in Chicago WRTE 90.5 is 73 watts analog and only 0.73 watts digital. They even have a HD2 channel. Hopefully they got a good deal from Ibiquity and/or the digital transmitter manufacturer.

@Ericglo: No problem locking in WSRV-HD here in Gwinnett. No surprise there, since their stick is in the south end of Hall County. But with 98000 watts, their signal should cover Atlanta pretty well. Are you using a car radio with the antenna printed on the rear window? Those are prone to multipath issues in city canyons.

I will nominate KMKY AM 1310 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its transmitter appears to be at the east end of the Bay Bridge, but I have not been able to receive any digital audio for a couple of months or more. I do get the call sign display on the radios I have tried and the flashing HD Radio logo, it just never locks in. I mostly try it across the bay but it should be a clear signal path maybe 10-15 miles away.

I admit that I started this thread mostly to rant.

I am using the Dual HD deck. It is weak in both digital and analog. I also had problems with analog with my old factory stereo.

@Ericglo: All the more reason to suspect a poor antenna or bad antenna connection somewhere. That can be hard to troubleshoot if the leads are enclosed when the car is built. Hope you can get it fixed, because there are lots of HD stations in Atlanta, even if "The River" isn't my cup of tea. WABE sounds great, even though they are multicasting three streams.

Pics,
It could very well be, but I have very little problems with the other stations. When I am in Miami, I get pretty much all of the stations that I know of. NPR comes in fairly easily when I am traveling. When I get a chance, I will take a look at the antenna connections. Maybe I can replace the wire between the radio and the antenna with a better one.

I was thinking wumd 89.3 but I can't totally blame them as they had a significant storm that knocked everything out nearly two years ago..factor in some budget cuts and it didn't help I think it's 9,600 watts

Well, I am going down to Miami and leaving 97.1. HD radio makes the drive more bearable.

WAMQ in Great Barrington, MA is something like 720 watts ERP, so the HD from them would be 7 watts.
