Mafia 2 is 75% off so 7.50. I will resist this one as I have a crazy backlog of games now. Also I liked the first one better from what I played of the second.
Oh, man! Gosh, I paid $50 for it. Pretty cool game.

Tempting, but I'm still trapped in Just Cause 2. I won't need another open-world title for a bit.
I wish Mafia 2 was open world. It is, sort of but the story plays out very linear. The only time you get to enjoy the open world parts is after you finish a mission or at the beginning of one where the objective is to 'head to Joe's' or 'go home'. Then you can around an eff around a bit.

In terms of a single-player experience, I think Just Cause 2 perfected the formula of action-based open world gameplay. It is really hard to find fault with a game this addictive to play and look at.

Ah, I do remember that from the Mafia 360 demo. What I saw of the world I really liked, but it did feel like the demo mission was a funnel. It doesn't get any freer in that regard? Dag yo.

Oh well, maybe next time when it's $5 and I'm done with Just Cause. That will be awhile I think though, as JC2 seems to be my new Fallout 3. I'm only 14 hours in to JC2, but I could see spending the 145 hours I spent in Fallout 3 here as well. An hour or two a night every couple of days for the next 18 months doesn't sound bad. It was an excellent way to play Fallout!

Another fabulous thing about Just Cause 2? Each location has it's own little completion meter! You can accomplish a 100% completion of the game a tiny bit at a time. The little proximity sensor is also a nice little addition to the collection minigame.

The more I think about it, I think the JC2 guys played a lot of Crackdown 1 after they finished JC1. Overpowered mega-agent in a playground with billions of collectibles. They certainly took the great parts of Crackdown and merged them in to their Just Cause universe.
Yes! JC2 is indeed the Crackdown for the rest of us.

At 21 hours and 26% completion I just finished up the main storyline in Just Cause 2. They got the endgame right! After finishing the title you kick in to Mercenary Mode, which lets you go back and finish any skipped missions, hunt for your collectibles, and work on your discovery percentage. I hate when games finish up, but then load up your last savegame to continue, without reflecting the completed status of your storyline. Just Cause 2 did it right.

Now to check out mods. What are you people playing with?
Hmmm... Mercenary Mode, eh? Sounds just like regular ol JC2 to me. I haven't finished the main story. Just keep working on discovering stuff and doing all the side missions.

I use some mods. Mainly an unlimited ammo mod and HD clouds.

Whoa. Someone put in some serious time and built a first-person mod. I'm going to have to give that a try.

I think I'm going to toss on a mod to remove the repeated cut-scenes with the market and drop-offs. Also, one that unlocks every vehicle and weapon in the game for purchase also looks rad.

Burnout Paradise - An oldie, but it supports triple monitors fantastically. It even puts the HUD on the outside of the central monitor, so you don't have to look all the way to the left edge of your left monitor for your map, and all the way to the right edge of the right monitor for your status.

AVSers need to have a Burnout Paradise night. I know theres alot of people on here who bought the game. So many games I forget which ones I have these days...its getting pretty bad. lol

Anyone picking up Homefront? Be interesting to see the reviews for it. All I really care about is the multiplayer though a good single player game would be a bonus. I need an FPS to tide me over till BF3 comes this fall. But I am going to wait for reviews as I got burnt bad by KAOS' last game Frontlines..still hurts.

I thought Frontlines was pretty great on the 360. Homefront though, I am less interested in the more I see of it. It feels like they took too many design cues from COD, instead of their classic Battlefield training.

Has anyone here tried the Sega Dreamcast Collection? I quickly glanced over at the Steam forum and saw numerous issues with glitches and controller use.

I might buy it anyway and hope there are enough purchases to get Sega to release Shenmue and Shenmue II for the PC.

This. And I was so excited for Homefront too.

Really, you lost your entire Steam install? Crap!

Reinstalling didn't work. Now to copy my whole half-gig Steam folder somewhere else and start a fresh install...

That's why you make archived backups of the games once you download them (the backup utility is built into steam). I have a stash on a spare HD that has every steam game I've ever purchased. Plus it makes it really easy to throw a copy on the HTPC if I ever want to play it there.

yeah, that part is my fault. i do have steam backup enabled, but some of the games were installed before that option. oh, well.....i will install as needed. i wasnt playing all 43 games at the same time anyway. i installed bc2 and transformers: rotf.

I didn't know Steam had a backup utility.

A search indicates the backup utility it is rather slow and you can accomplish the same thing by copying the Steam folder.

Dudes when you get the "steam is unavailable" message, you don't have to reinstall anything! Mine does this occasionally. What you have to do is go to to your initial steam folder and delete the .blob files. There are two of them. Actually I think you only have to delete the ClientRegistry.blob file. Not sure, but if one doesn't work, try the other.

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier...

Fixed mine. Moved my half-tera games folder out, uninstalled and reinstalled. Moved games folder back. Steam would just hard-lock on accessing the Library with any other solution.

Earlier I said "half-gig" like that was some huge amount.

I like the cloud saving feature myself. It was cool to reload Just Cause 2 on a fresh install to see saves from close to a year ago still there. I'm kind of sorry I didn't purchase The Witcher 2 on Steam now because it will only have cloud saves on Steam. It was supposed to be DRM free on D2D but now it's only going to be DRM free on GOG.
