I regret not buying Far Cry 2. I also regret buying Civ IV 2 weeks before the sale. I don't remember how much I paid, but it was a lot more than the sale price.

I spend a little over a hundred bucks on the Square Enix pack plus some one offs on the side. I've already beat Arkham Asylum and think I may start on the Hitman series next. I'll probably play Thief after that.

Audiosurf was by far one of my best purchases of the week. Casual, but one of the coolest games to kill a little time on.

Definitely spend some time with the Terraria Wiki while playing. I find it a lot more useful than trekking back to Guide every time I want to find out what things I can make with some material I just found. Also, build extra houses with at least lights, a table, and a chair. That's how you get the NPCs to show up.

I'm really liking this game, and think it would be a lot of fun to play with over AVSers. I encountered the corruption for the first time and was promptly killed by a swarm of evil flying things, which might be slightly easier to deal with with more players. Although it's probably just needs better gear.

Picked up the GTAIV pack yesterday, but it's taking forever to download. Not too bad at a $10 price, and I traded in my 360 version for $11. Want to try out that MOD that has better graphics. Dyeing for that Oblivion MOD to come out with the upgraded graphics. Bought that awhile ago for $5 off of Steam.

I'd like to figure out how to do multiplayer. It sounds like someone needs to make a server with a static IP and forward some ports, but with all the updates there may be an easier way. I'll look into it more.

EDIT: I messed around with the multiplayer options in the game, and it seems all you do is select multiplayer and host & play. The other players then choose join and enters the host's IP address to connect. You can find your IP address at whatismyip.com. Now, it would be ideal if someone hosted a dedicated server because then we could join whenever, but I don't know if anyone here is willing to do that.

EDIT2: Just to be clear: should we use this thread for general Steam discussions and Steam Group activities, or only Steam in general? Also, should we create individual threads for each game, or discuss them here, too, if we're playing them with group members? I kind of like the idea of a central thread for all group members to use to discuss playing games together, and wasn't sure if this was the thread for it.

A central thread makes the most sense to me. For example, someone tried building a " Steam deals" thread, for no reason that I can discern, but did you see that used any time in the last two weeks? No, of course not. We all came here.

I bought a copy of Terraria for my girl last night as well, then set up a multi game real quick. It's easy, you just need an IP to connect to.
Hmmm. Lots of Terraria talk here. Who here plays Minecraft? A friend and I have been running our own server for a couple months. Only just recently shut it down for the new updates that just came out.

Well now that the sale is over, it's time to post your tallies. I think I got off easy this time compared to the last few sales.

I grabbed Trine, the Fallout: New Vegas DLC, the Need for Speed pack, Duke Nukem Forever, and Terraria.

Grand total this time was $72.94

My total was around $35

Steam Summer Sale didnt get me too bad this time
post #611 of 1849
Was Dragon Age one of the first days sales? If so that is one. Plus: Stalker SoC and Clear Sky, Civ5 dlc, Wings of Prey + dlc, NFS pack, killing floor dlc, portal 2, dead space 2, Garrys mod. In addition to that, I got the valve complete pack, killing floor and BFBC2 complete for another steam ID I have that I will use for a dedicated server for those games.

I got suckered real good.

Any Minecraft players can hit me up and I can allow access to my own private server if interested.
I got suckered too. In my defense, I just built my PC about 2 months ago, so while I probably spent a little over a hundo, I probably stretched it into 25-30 games. I'll be good for a long time (until BF3).

The best part about the amount I've spent is that I've been hooked on TF2 (free) and spending any other time with Audiosurf ($3?).

Heres my list:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Well, I didn't break the high score. I spent about $106. I ended up with:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
  • The Path
  • Time Gentlemen, Please
  • Eets
  • The Mawesome Pack
  • Saira
  • Bob Came in Pieces
  • Secret of the Magic Crystals (for my daughter, I swear)
  • Hamilton's Great Adventure
  • Magicka & Magicka: Vietnam
  • Half-Life Complete
  • Darksiders
  • Wings of Prey + Luftwaffe
  • Company of Heroes
  • Amnesia
  • Dead Space 2
  • Sam & Max Season 1-3
  • Terraria
  • Neverwinter Nights 2: Platinum
  • CreaVures
  • The Longest Journey & Dreamfall

Terraria has so far been by the biggest bang for buck, by far. Especially because I got in on the $2.50 price. After playing for 5 hours, I'd say even at $10 it's a really great value. After playing Sam & Max with my daughter and seeing how much she enjoys them, I think I need to buy the Telltale complete pack down the road. Sadly I went slightly over my $100 limit or I'd pick it up (publisher packs still seem to be available, btw).

$101 for:
Sims 3
Dragon Age
Alpha Protocol
NFS Pack
Stalker COP
Quake pack
Fallout 3
Terraria x2
...which brings me to 146 Steam games now. Alot of the cheaper stuff I've already picked up on previous sales.

Shift 2 is brilliant with the wheel. Hot Pursuit is fun, but sucks on a wheel. Fallout 3 is obviously great. Terraria is the gem that I didn't know what to expect going in, but found to be so rad I bought a second copy for the girl. And Sims 3 will be a lot of fun for the next two or three years.

Good Sale!

For me:
DCS A-10C Warthog
Fallout New Vegas + DLC
Just Cause 2 DLC

For friends:
Fallout New Vegas + DLC
Just Cause 2
HL2: EP2

Had to restrain myself to save for SS3 & RO2-HoS

Awesome. If more people I know have A10, I will have to buy it.

What's your SteamID, Bob?

Damn you Terraria! I liked you better when I didn't know what I was doing.

Holy time sink. Played for an hour and twenty and all I have is this awful looking house.

Sounds like me in Sims 3. 2.9 hours so far, and all I've got is a crappy trailer, am good and lifting weights, and have upped my logic skill.

It was $20 off so $40 total and now back to $60.

Did anyone buy Borderlands during the sale or is looking to start a new game? I'm going to be starting a new game with my brother this weekend, and anyone is more than welcome to join us.
I picked it up as well. Couple friends did too. You helped me through on 360, so I'm in for jumping in when we're both on.

Do you use Steam chat? I'm a PC noob for gaming right now, but I was able to pair a bluetooth headset, but haven't had a chance to test it out. I know some people use Mumble and Vent, both of which I've never used.

I have a Vent server I go to that I can send the info to you. We could also use Steam chat. It's just lower audio quality.

Borderlands players, hit me up!

Steam chat audio quality did go through a big upgra about 6 months ago, if memory serves. Just saying, in case you are working on a "Yeah it sucked 4 years ago" data set.
Well, Borderlands overheats my GPU on my laptop, so I will have to wait until I'm back in town to play it on the desktop.
Aww, damn. Saw you jump into BL earlier. Hit me up if you want any backup or just some one to join in.
