Lighted Bar Shelf Material Reccomendations

I've completed about 90% of my basement/bar build thanks in large part to the wonderful ideas in this forum. One of the last little elements for my bar is the shelves for the liquor bottles. I ordered LED's to make the bottles glow and I have built the basic framing for the shelves, now I need to decide on material. The shelf is supported along the front and sides. The shelf dimensions are 30" x 12". I'm thinking 3/8" or 1/2" for the shelf thickness. I'm trying to decide between glass and acrylic, and frosted or clear. The LED's will sit in a hidden compartment directly beneath each shelf. What do you guys think would be the best choice of material?

Without a doubt, frosted glass, but its also the most expensive.

If you go with glass, it should be tempered...

You can also get frosted plexiglass. The frosted will help diffuse the light. Are you planning on having the lip of the material extend over the supports or inset? If you extend over the edges make sure you get the edges polished as the LED light will come through there and give it a neat effect as well.

Do you have any pictures of your bar setup?

I could build the same thing out of plywood and frosted plexi-glass for $40 plus the cost of the light. Any recommendations on what type of light to use?

I ended up using frosted plexi. I'll take some pictures to show you how it ended up. Give me a few minutes. I ended up using led bars on a remote to change colors. It actually ended up even a little better than I hoped.

I have a spare led kit from costco from almost 2 years ago I need to use. I am also going to build a 2 tier stand from maple to match the bar, then I have to decide what to make the top from. It will probably be frosted plexi glass.
