I just noticed the the D* 3D PPV channel is broadcasting Journey to the Center of the Earth next week. I have ordered it and will be interested to see how it compares to the old Bluray 3D version.

Should be a hands down winner as it was filmed in true S3D using Pace Fusion 3D cameras - the same used for Avatar.

DTV = Digital TV, as in over-the-air

D* = DirecTV

Hopefully it will be available for BD purchase at some point. I'm not a big fan of paying $5 for 24 hours of rental.

I am even less of a fan of paying $100 for a 3D Bluray for active shutter glasses. It does give me some hope that the Directv PPV channel will start offering Golden Age 3D flicks. I didn't find anyplace on the Directv site that mentioned Journey to the Center of the Earth on PPV. I found it by going forward in the online guide.

Does anyone know what other older films will be available in the future on Directv?

I just watched the Journey to the Center of the Earth PPV version and have mixed feelings. I'm not sure if it is the conversion or not. I had watched the Bluray 3D version on my 73735 a month ago.

It was pleasant to watch the flick with active shutter technology. Even though the Directv broadcast was in 1080p, I was not happy with the resolution compared to the Bluray. It seemed less crisp than the World Cup games I had watched. Whereas the World Cup games did not need brightness or color adjustment, it seemed to me that Journey to the Center of the Earth did.

Overall I would rate the PPV as a C+.

But it was in full color where the BD was not.

Just watched the D* PPV showing as well...I thought the 3D effects were pretty good and the color and resolution were decent to my eyes. I did see a few instances of crosstalk/ghosting on my Sammy PN50C7000 plasma though unfortunately. Still wondering if the ghosting is due to the TV itself or the Sammy glasses...looking forward to more 3D PPV content in the future.

This is not the "journey" movie staring Will Ferrel is it?

Rick, many here on the forum feel that it's the glasses that is responsible for the ghosting issue. From my limited technical experience, when closing one eye using the Panasonic 3D glasses the ghosting goes away but the 3d image is still there. So on some scenes I close the right eye and then the left eye and it removes the ghosting. So it's just not one side of the shutter glasses that is causing the problem.

Hope someone else chimes in here.

I think you're thinking of Land of the Lost.

It could be the source material. None of my 3D Blu rays have ghosting, but my 3D Stereoscopic DVDs do have ghosting.
