Hello all,

Since Outlaw Audio is offering the SR 5005, we have written and published The Outlaws' Guide To The Marantz SR5005

This illustrated 60 page document should answer a number of questions not addressed in the original Marantz owner's manual. The Guide is FREE for downloading and viewing online. I personally think the DVB-T receiver produces all that, and in the poor TV-Speakers one dindn't hear all that, and the Marantz now brings that all out.

I have the Marantz 1601 (essentially a lower-powered 5005 with a few less connection options). I was debating returning it for a higher powered AVR unit (ended up keeping it). I cannot immagine NOT having any of those features going forward. I'm sure there are probably competing technologies (and I haven't heard any yet), but I'm now a big fan of Audyssey.

Nice to hear. I was trying to figure out if I should get the SR5005 or spring for the AV7005 (I have the amps). But the AV7005 is lots of $$$.

But now with Apple's AirPlay announcement, I'm waiting to see what Marantz has to say about that. I have lots of Apple stuff in my home, and I'd love to be able to stream stuff directly to my receiver. Supposedly Marantz and Denon are AirPlay partners, but only Denon has said anything about it.

Anyone else have a 5005 or 6005 ? It looks like Dolby Headphone is one these receivers, which is a very big plus for me.

I saw that on Amazon and thought about ordering it. I need some more reviews before I jump. I might just get the 6003 from A4L for 500.00. So many decisions.

I have SR5005, but I am sending it back, because it does not overlay GUI over the image contrary to what the manual may suggest. Decided to spend almost double on Denon 4311ci (or perhaps SR7005, undecided yet).

Sounds fantastic to me but then I am coming from a lower end setup so I am not too experienced.

I think the 6005 overlays GUI. That would be cheaper than the 4311. The Denon 2311 also overlays GUI and volume for a lot less.

I know (now). Almost ordered SR6005. But then decided to spring up for SR7005, which consequently brought me to 4311ci for its 9.2 capability.

6005 seems to be very similar to 2311 with better connectivity. can't wait for some pics of the innards side by side.

Unsure. However, SR7005 seems like 3311ci with better connectivity and few extras (Dolby Headphone, DTS Neural), supposedly better (?) pre-amp section.

Wish there was Marantz equivalent of 4311ci...

Is it possible to turn on/off scaling and passthrough etc on a per-input basis? The manual is not at all clear on this.

Check Outlaw's guide (downloadable from their site, the "Outlaws' Guide to the SR5005" link near the top right). It offers some good detail. Based on what it says around page 22 and 23, each input has separate video settings, which means you could have some inputs being bypassed and others being scaled/deinterlaced.

I know. I dont want to pull the trigger until I can find something that shows a difference between them. I wish I could find a review or something. I can get a sr6003 or a denon 3310 for around the same price. I just dont know if I should wait for a 6005 or 5005 review. I have always liked denons but I wanted to go with the marantz because I love the look of their recievers and I know they will sound similar to the denons. I just dont want to waste money. I never thought picking a receiver was going to be this hard.

I'm pretty much settled on the Marantz. I'm just waiting on two things. One, I'd like to see some reviews just to make sure there are no problems with the units. Two, I need to find a good source to get them cheaper than MSRP.

Up here in Canada there's a huge premium on price. With the exchange rate, the MSRP of the 5005 should be around $825. But you know what it really is? It's $999!!!! I'm considering ordering one from DigitalCraze and having it delivered to a PO Box just across the border.

what's so bad about that? not pretty when you make setup changes?

i can live without the volume overlay so i should be ok.

I have it out of sight and I need volume and surround settings overlaid on the picture. YMMV.

Yea Marantz are harder to find at discount then denon or onkyo. A4L will probably get some refurbs in the next month or so. Amazon had an Open box for 599 thru one call. I want a marantz but I'm leaning more toward the denon 3310 now. I'm sure that will change by tomorrow.

The 5005 is on my list because it has pre-outs.

I have Thiel 1.6's powered by mono amps and I would like to keep this arrangement. Any other receiver in this range that also has pre-outs?

I have the old OUTLAW pre-amp (DVI inputs) and am now looking for a replacement to go with my ATI 1505 AMP. I am also looking at the 5005 and I am also looking at the new Pioneer 1120 with 6 HDMI inputs and supposely the newer video processing for about the same price.

shepdog have you considerd the Pioneer 1120? ro any other like the older Dendon refurbished 3310?

In my opinion the Denon 3310 would be a much better receiver than the 1120. I owned a Pioneer 1020 for a week and I was not a big fan of it. I ordered a refurb Denon 3310 today for 1/3 of retail price at ecost. I can't wait till it gets here.

Yea everybody has different taste so I would not count the pioneer out. Between the 2310 and the 1120 it would be a close one for me but I think the 3310 would be a step up. Now if i could get the pioneer elite sc35 for the same price that I got the 3310 I might go for it. Even though I do like audyssey better than Mcacc.
