Got for $499 with the inclusive 2 year extended warranty. From what I can tell it's brand spanking new....Checked all the settings and everything was set to default which tells me that nobody has touched it yet, or the marantz factory reset the settings... either way it's all good.
My initial impressions:
Picture quality -- I turn video up-conversion on BD off and turn it on on analog sources like VCR, quality is okay, I think it defaults it to 720p.
Sound -- with the default settings, I am not impressed! My old and trusty JVC RX-6010 to me sounds warmer with crystaline highs. Although in stereo mode, the imaging is better on the marantz since there is a strong perception of a center channel even though it is in 2.1 direct mode. I am running the AVR on a polk 70s (bi-amped using speaker-C), cs10 and some soon to be replaced surrounds.
I am really more into music than movies so I was really expecting a lot based on the reviews I have read and so I am a little disappointed with the result I am getting so far.
Did not have time to run audessy yet and I figured the speaker and the AVR need to be in bed for a while for the sound to be familiar to my ears.
No problem with pictures and no pop of death experience.
By the way I tried using a notebook cooler and plugged-it in the USB port and the fan works...I might use it to keep the receiver cool ...
Another by the way, bi-wiring or passive bi-amping does make a difference...to me at least...the separation of the instruments specially the high notes are more defined.
