Hi jw and netsurferi got the exact same thing today aswell.... bought my reciver in the middle of july 2010... hmm weird coincidence.

Hello all. So, I just bought a Turtle Beach X42 Wireless headset. I want to connect the Digitial Optical in from my receiver versus XBOX. My question is can I do this even though I am strictly using HDMI ins for all my video sources? I don't want to impact the quality of my sound or cause the receiver to down mix because I am trying to use the Digital Optical out simultaneously with HDMI.

Can anybody tell if this is possible and how to do it?

My TX-NR808 is not putting out any sound any more as well. It was working fine last night and this morning nothing.
I've done a reset but that didn't help
The Network, Update, and Remote Controll are all greyed out.
I got mine back in April of 2011. I'm glad I'm in the 2 year warranty window but I feel this is systematically weird. Like almost a virus or a hack that someone did. Very strange.

I run the latest firmware: Firmware Update TX-NR808 (05-07-2012)

I also had the "no sound - no network" issue. Turns out it is the HDMI board -- which I'm sure is mentioned many times in this thread. I was out of warranty but Onkyo did a one time "warranty extension" and fixed it for free. I had to bring it to Lincoln Park NJ (which isn't far from me) and took almost 2 weeks to fix.

It is a known issue for them so they are pretty much extending the warranty for anyone with this receiver having similar problems.

Call Onkyo -- it is the HDMI board.

Same "No sound" problem on any source as you guys after the warranty expired in February(of course). Network was also lost (greyed out in the setup screen). I updated the firmware a few weeks ago. Gonna try that secret extended warranty but I expect that I have to get through customs (I am in Canada) for repairs. It might not be worth the trouble and shipping cost
I dont know if its the HDMI board because it does not work on radio input (no HDMI) and of course network radio. I did not try the turntable input.

Ugh, I just got hit with the same problem. How is it possible that so many of us are having this problem right after the warranty expires?

My 808 just went silent too..Comes on fine, looks like it will work...But nothing..I do have an extended warranty. Can't wait to see how this goes....I also have the "no network" issue. It's greyed out on the options screen.

Trying to figure out if I'm in the same situation. NR808. Recently stopped sending sound out of the main speakers. However, Zone2 works just fine. Everything "looks" like it should be working. I have yet to try a real reset (I only momentarily unplugged the unit... need to do an extended unplug and whatever else it takes to do a real reset). So, would this possibly be the same "HDMI board" issue, even if sound still works on Zone 2?

Really, really annoying.

I got the out of warranty one time extension and it is being repaired. The ONKYO forum board has the reference e-mail info to process the issue.

In regards to this HDMI sound issue, does anyone know whether replacing the capacitors on the HDMI board will fix this ? I would rather do that than have to ship it back and wait many weeks.

I have had a refurbed model for over a year now. For some reason, when I try to do my speaker auto-setup, it always fails on the front left speaker. The speaker sounds fine to me. Has anybody else run into this?

I just started having issues with my TX-NR808, purchased in early 2011. The HDMI is becoming unstable, but the most prevalent issue is that the listening modes are not working and the LED display indicates that "TV Sp On" suggesting the use of internal speakers on my Samsung LED display. I checked these settings as I have never used the internal speakers and they are still disabled. I seem to be stuck using front L and front R and no other source can get past this issue. I am using the most recent firmware (updated only a few weeks ago) as I was attempting to trouble shoot my growing HDMI instability.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Hello AVS Veterans and Experts - My very first post because I have run into an unusual problem with my Onkyo 808 which is about two years old and has worked well since I purchased it. For some odd reason when I adjust the volume with the supplied remote, I can never go above level 85 (I mean the on screen level that is displayed from the 808). I have tried adjusting or turning off every damn intelli-volume thingy ma jig in settings. I even called Onkyo and they could not tell me (go figure). It has been this way since the day I opened the box. Does anyone have any idea why I cant crank my volume up to (I assume) a level 100?

(This level 85 ceiling is in place whether I use my PS3 by HDMI, or my Direct TV box by HDMI, or Netflix (over the PS3) or any other damn connection. Hence, I am assuming it is being imposed by the receiver itself. Also, to help out, the receiver is connected to a not too expensive Onkyo 7.1 speaker setup and the receiver does have the latest 2012 summer firmware.)

Can anyone tell me how to connect my Sennheiser RS220 wireless headphone to the Onkyo 808?

I see no digital outs only ins. The only outs I see are the monitor out en de HDMI out main and sub.

Does a converter exists that converts signal from HDMI to coax digital?

Any help will be much appreciated

Keep in mind the RS-220 can only receive an uncompressed PCM 2.0 audio signal (ie. no DD/DTS 5.1), although the following converter should meet your requirement.

Has anyone had their unit repaired for the no audio issue yet and what was the resolution. We had a hellatious thunderstorm last night and lost power, I have an APC protection unit but apparently something is wrong as I have no audio
When I plug in the audyssey mic it won't accept the enter command with either the remote or on the faceplate. It just keeps reading press enter for "next" their are also no speakers indicated on the display. I found this forum doing a random search through Onkyo's forum. My unit is an 805 mdl

You might want to try the NR818 forum, this one doesn't have much traffic anymore. I don't have any experience with this issue, so I'm unable to help. Hope you find the answer you need.
